Make a Pledge to Stop the Bankruptcy Reform Giveaway

Our Progress So Far

So far, we've pledged $576,402.11.

This week Congress will vote on changes to bankruptcy laws sought by big credit card companies and the radical Republican leadership that goes right after families—giving credit card companies and other creditors more ways to seize your home, your car and other assets if you get into financial trouble. It is important to show representatives who are on the fence that there are serious consequences for hurting Americans in order to help the nation's credit card companies.

This is an important action because a big "Pledge Fund" will send a signal to members of Congress before they vote that there could be consequences for their actions. We'll e-mail you after the vote with our plan for ads and to let you know how much money we think should be spent.

SAMPLE Radio Ad, "Do you have a friend in Tom DeLay?"

They worked hard. They saved.

They had health insurance. Then a medical emergency and the bills started to pile up. Now they're facing bankruptcy.

Last year, half the personal bankruptcies in America were ordinary working people with extraordinary medical debt.

You'd think Congress would've helped them. You'd think Tom DeLay would've helped them. Think again.

Tom DeLay just voted for a bankruptcy law practically written by the credit card companies and the banks. Tom DeLay got $620,000 in contributions from those people. The new law won't make it tougher for companies like Enron and WorldCom. But the law will make it harder for decent people to get financial relief. It will burden hard-working people with more debt.

Face it. The banks and the credit card companies sure have a friend in Tom DeLay.

Do you?
