Letter to Congress

On Friday the House voted to condemn the president's plan to escalate the war. A good first step. But we have to keep moving. On Thursday, MoveOn members are planning to show up at hundreds of Congressional offices to deliver letters asking Congress to stop the escalation. The more of us who add our voices, the more pressure they'll feel to act. Can you take a moment to write a short letter that other MoveOn members will hand-deliver for you on Thursday?

Talking Points

  • A majority of Congress opposes escalation. That's a good first step, but it's not nearly enough.

  • Congress is the decider. They must stop the president from sending tens of thousands more troops to Iraq.

  • Congress must stop the escalation and bring our troops home. The resolution was only the first step. Now Congress must take action to end the quagmire in Iraq.

  • The election was a mandate to end the war in Iraq. Sending more troops to Iraq will only make the quagmire in Iraq worse. Iraq escalation has been rejected by voters, the bipartisan Iraq Study Group, Colin Powell, and many military generals.

  • Stopping Escalation is the best way to support our troops. We want to make sure our troops in the field are safe and protected. The best thing we can do for our troops is to keep them out of harm's way and start bringing them home.

Privacy Policy

We do not share the information you’ve given us with unaffiliated groups without your explicit permission.

Petitions and Surveys

For petitions and surveys you've signed or completed, we treat your name, city, state, and comments as public information - for example, we may provide compilations of petitions, with your comments, to the President and legislators, other targets, or to the press. We will not make your street address publicly available, but we may transmit it to members of Congress and to the President as part of a petition. This is a standard industry practice in such situations. In no such case will we disclose your email address or phone number without your permission. We may also make your comments, along with your first name, city and state available to the press and public online.

Under circumstances where we determine that members may be misusing our systems for malicious purposes (for example, using the numbers we provide to make harassing phone calls), such activities may be reported to law enforcement agencies. In such cases, MoveOn may release personally identifiable information, including name and address, to those agencies.

Sending Emails Via MoveOn.org Political Action

In certain cases, we enable you to send individual e-mails to the President, legislators, and other targets as well as Letters-to-the-Editor to various news publications, through our website.
