Materials to Plan Vigil to Honor 2000 Dead
Our vigils will be simple and dignified. We'll gather at 6:30 PM (local time) on Wednesday, October 26, 2005 and we will hold candles to remember those who have been killed in Iraq. Together, we'll acknowledge the sacrifices made by more than 2000 American men and women in Iraq—and their families. It is a time to stand with them, honor them and speak out against the war.

Here's a quick list of the things you'll have to do as a vigil host:
- Select an appropriate location, where the vigil will not create a disturbance.
- Make safety a priority -- keep candles away from anything that could catch fire and clean up spilled wax.
- Register your event with us. You can do so here: http://pol.moveon.org/event/iraqvigils/
- Print and bring placards.
- Bring extra candles and matches or lighter. Everyone who signs up will be asked to bring their own, but you should bring some extras. Hardware stores often sell inexpensive “Plumber’s Candles.”
- Be a good, friendly, courteous leader.
- Help ensure that the vigil remains quiet, dignified, respectful, and safe. This may include showing leadership in the unlikely event of a conflict. Of course, you can also ask for help from others in your group if you need it.
- Fill out a quick post-vigil survey.
- Let the media know about your vigil and be prepared to talk to reporters if they show up at your event.
- Bring a digital camera and take lots of pictures. (optional)
- Send in digital photos from the vigil. (optional)

Take Photos
This event will only impact politicians and the press if we can show them what happened. Please don't forget to mail your photos to vigilpics@moveon.org after the vigil. Please be sure to send the photos from the same email address you used to host or sign-up for a vigil and please also be sure to send the photos as attachments, not pasted into the body of the email.
