Last night, Sen. Harry Reid gave George W. Bush a blank check for endless war in Iraq--supporting the same bill that just days earlier Reid called "weak tea."
Reid needs to know we're disappointed--we expect stronger leadership from him, not weakness. Can you send Harry Reid a bag of "weak tea" and a letter telling him your opinion of last night's vote? |
Last week, Democratic leader Harry Reid dismissed the Iraq supplemental bill as "weak tea."[1] He said Democrats demanded a strong bill, not a blank check for endless war in Iraq. But last night, Reid joined nearly all Senate Republicans and over half of Senate Democrats in sending that blank check to President Bush.[2]
This is the most shameful moment on Iraq since the vote to authorize war in 2002. Despite the American people's overwhelming mandate in November's election, and despite President Bush's 28% approval rating[3], Democrats capitulated.
We know Harry Reid is capable of strong leadership--we've seen many shows of strength in the past. Last night, unfortunately, was not one of them.
Can you be 1 of 360 people to send a bag of "weak tea" to Harry Reid's office -- one for every Senator and Representative that defied the will of the American people yesterday[4]? Attach it with a note telling Reid that we--and the troops--need him to show strong leadership against Bush:
Send tea and letter to:
Senator Harry Reid

Las Vegas, NV 89101Help us track our progress--report that you've sent Reid a letter and "weak tea" bag here:
http://pol.moveon.org/iraq/weaktea
Please pass this to your friends and family as well--Reid deserves to hear feedback from as many people as possible.
Let's show Harry Reid that the 70% of the American people who oppose Bush's Iraq policy[5] want him to stand up strongly to President Bush. No more "weak tea" from Democratic leaders.
Thanks for all you do.
