Having a giant sign depicting the number of people who go bankrupt every day because they can't afford to pay their medical bills will be a powerful reminder to your senator and Majority Leader Reid that we can't afford to wait for real health care reform with a public option and an image that the media will be interested in. We've tried to make it as easy as possible to prepare your sign, but you should be sure to give yourself plenty of time in case something goes wrong.
Step 1: Download the image file: Click here to download the sign image. Save it to your computer. If you have trouble opening the file, try updating your Adobe Acrobat.
Step 2: Send the sign to a local printer: Click here to find the closest Kinko's and the store's email address. Send the sign file to the store as an attachment and then give them a follow-up call (you'll get an email with the phone number once you send the file). It should take around 2 hours. Be sure to confirm this with them while you're on the phone.
You can follow the same basic process with any other local printer. It's great to support union print shops when possible. You can find local union shops here.
Step 3 (optional): Strengthen your sign: If you're holding your event in an area that may be windy, you can try strengthening your sign with some cardboard. All you need to do is cut two strips of cardboard to be about 18 inches long and tape them to the back of your sign on each end. This will give people something to hold onto. Make sure they're not visible to people looking at the front of the sign—you don't want to spoil your visual.
