— Madison, 2012-12-18 08:19:59

Senator Kohl, Please do not make any changes that will hurt our Social Security benefits. I am 68 and my husband is 63 years old and hopes to retire at 66. My husband works for the state and has taken a 7,000.00 decrease in income last year and will take an 8,000 decrease in pay this year. We sold our home, took a 10,000.00 debt with us because of the drop in the housing market. We moved into a 1,000 sq. ft. rental. This is not the time for us to be losing income as we have; we have no equity, no savings account and no cash on hand. Please stand up for us and the population like us who cannot afford to lose benefits. Thank you.

— Mount Horeb, 2012-12-18 08:21:13

Just told a staffer that I hope Kohl will stop cuts to ss

— Osceola, 2012-12-18 08:22:29

The staffer said that Kohl had opposed SS cuts in the past and is not aware of any change in his position. I told him to record my opposition to any deal that includes cuts to SS benefits.

— Brookfield, 2012-12-18 08:24:59

His office also reported that Sen Kohl is working with other Dems to stop the deal if it includes cuts to social security

— appleton, 2012-12-18 08:31:34

Senator Kohl's staff member said that Senator Kohl hasn't committed on anything yet since the bill is "ever-changing". I told them that I did not want him to support any cuts to Social Security benefits, and they said they would report my call.

— Fond du Lac, 2012-12-18 08:33:52

I was told the Senator was opposed to any cuts for Social Security. They said they were keeping a log of the comments coming in from the phone calls. I told them I wanted to make sure my voice was heard.

— Neenah, 2012-12-18 08:48:14

— Ellenton, 2012-12-18 09:21:47

Sen Kohl has always represented the best of progressive Wisconsin and I expect he'll do so this time. As opposed to our other Senator/businessman/Republican who follows whatever his leaders tell him to

— Wauwatosa, 2012-12-18 09:26:29

A call service person answered and basically said they will convey my thoughts to the Senator's office. I hope this position wasn't outsourced. Disappointing. They must be getting deluged w/ calls. I hope so.

— Omro, 2012-12-18 09:27:24

They said they would pass on my message--which was "no deal if it affects Social Security benefits in any way". They thanked me for calling

— Hayward, 2012-12-18 09:31:20

The staffer will pass on the message. I shared that I depend on my social security to make ends meet.

— Kenosha, 2012-12-18 09:32:05

— Waukesha, 2012-12-18 09:44:17

Talked w/ an office person. Basically: she refused to answer. Said he was waiting for a deal to be announced (or offered)and then he will act. I persisted in asking how he felt about compromising SS. She persisted in not answering me directly. I told her who I am, my age (83), and suggested that he surely must know by now how he feels about SS. At one point she said that he has only 3 weeks left in office. I responded that he is STILL my senator & I have a right to ask which way he is leaning. She hung up on me.

— Appleton, 2012-12-18 09:44:21

Will pass along this information tot he Senator.

— Stoughton, 2012-12-18 09:45:31

I explained that I am disabled and cannot afforded a cut to social security. I also said that my son is in Afghanison and if he needs help when he returns can he count on help being there for him and his family?

— Stoughton, 2012-12-18 09:51:37

Left message with staff member. Made very clear SS has nothing to do with fiscal cliff issues. Also talked gun control needs.

— Bayside, 2012-12-18 10:09:27

LEAVE SOC SEC alone. There are so many people that can afford to pay more. don't make people on fixed incomes pay more. Make it so every dollar after 110 thousand is subject to paying soc sec taxes and the problem goes away.

— Embarrass, 2012-12-18 10:10:11

Will let Senator Kohl know our concerns...

— New Orleans, 2012-12-18 10:10:11

I had a terrible stroke when I was 50. I had worked all of my life, since I was in high school. What would people like me do to live, eat, go in my wheelchair? Really, what would we do?

— Windsor, 2012-12-18 10:11:49

I called Senator Kohl's office and was told that he's opposing any cuts to SS. Too bad he'll soon be out of office. Menomonie,WI 12-18-12 12:10

— green bay, 2012-12-18 10:17:11

i included our opinion that raising the social security cap limit is a better solution...and we are in the 100k-250k salary range that many are considered with affecting.

— LA CROSSE, 2012-12-18 10:17:45

i shared that as a newly retired protective class (law enforcement) civil servant I have already started drawing my pension adn can not change how that is done and it ends when my social security starts to to move back SS puts me in a life or death situation in my 60w/until I can get my ss. I already have that ship sailing and they can't change my retirement earnings in the middle of my retirement. The small percentage impact on the rich is nothing and to me it is everything.

— Eau Claire, 2012-12-18 10:18:53

Left a message; individual indicated he would pass it on to Sen. Kohl.

— Waupun, 2012-12-18 10:21:45

— madison, 2012-12-18 10:41:00

Social Security is not an entitlement program. 3 martini lunches, golfing, and other forms of entertainment are entitlement programs for the privileged

— Spooner, 2012-12-18 10:41:31

Do you commit to oppose any benefit cuts to Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid? I am especially concerned about the chained CPI which will make it progressively harder for retirees to make ends meet.

— Phillips, 2012-12-18 10:43:11

I asked that Mr. Kohl do everything in his power to defeat this proposal made by President Obama. I also went so far to tell him that I am okay with moving the tax bracket to a million dollars as Mr. Boehner has asked; but ONLY if Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid are completely taken off the table during this discussion.

— Germantown, 2012-12-18 10:43:20

please stamd up us the right way.

He totally opposes any cuts,

— madison, 2012-12-18 11:30:25

I am totally against any budget cuts to social security benefits. It is already difficult to survive on the meger amount I recieve. I now believe the stories of old people eating pet foods. Removing anything would be a travisty. We put so many years of labor into this country and now we struggle just to keep our nose above water. If you want to cut sonething try cutting benefits to people that just jump off of a boat/airplane and recieve the same benefits as those of us that have labored. Their only qualififcation- being old! If you want to affect Social Security Benefits, increase them!!! Happy Retirement Senator Kohl!!

— Milwaukee, 2012-12-18 11:44:10

— Racine, 2012-12-18 12:03:16

I asked how Senator Kohl was going to vote. He said the Senator hasn't released a statement regarding his vote. I said, so does that mean he isn't telling us how he will vote? She said, all I can tell you is in the past, he has not supported any cuts to Medicare, Medicaid or Social Security. I asked when he will be releasing his position. The woman on the phone said his statement will be made through his vote. I asked what the best way is to make my voice be heard. She said I will take a message.

— Green Bay, 2012-12-18 12:18:36

— Milwaukee, 2012-12-18 12:21:08

When I called & told my preferences to the person answering the phone she said she would let 'him' know. I said, Do you need to know my information? She said, 'I can see you are calling from Wisconsin & that's all I need to know.' My thought is that a lot of people could make repetitive calls, and Kohl's office wouldn't know the difference. When I call Petrie's office, they take down my name & address (and send out a form letter afterwards).

— Neenah, 2012-12-18 12:51:34

I suggested that Senator Kohl worked hard for his constituency throughout his long stay in the Senate and to maintain his stance on protecting the middle class. I also mentioned that the people that they would be hurting are those that paid a great deal during most of their working life into the SS system. I was assured that it would be passed on to the Senator.

I am ON Social cause I lost my job .. now my house. If my 'investmemt' (paid on for 40 yrars) is cut ... perhaps there is no recorse but to sue for renigimg pn the contract. If I have to sue every member of congress ... I will do so

I had to leave a message but did ask the Senator if he would do everything in his power to stop the deal if it included the reported cuts to Social Security benefits. I also said that we are living on a fixed income and the cut would certainly harm us.

— Madison, 2012-12-18 16:13:02

I've worked over 45 years to get to social security. Tell everyone in Congress to not cut it!

— Neenah, 2012-12-18 16:26:48

Obama isn't doing the job that we voted him in office to do. If he gives in to cuts on S.S. or medicare I'll consider him as a leader for the rich and a traitor to the working class. I'll be 68 in Feb. so the cuts won't affect me but I'm very upset that he would even consider it. Whose side is he really on, the rich and the corporations or the middle class and poor? Show your true colors Mr. President!

— Fort Atkinson, 2012-12-18 16:26:51

are you really listening to us???? we don't want our entitlements cut!!!!! leave my social security alone, it has no affect on the deficit. Is Bernie Sanders speaking to deaf ears? stop this outrage now! Can't believe it, is our president really a conservative?

— evansville, 2012-12-18 16:29:39

left a message .....No cuts to Social Security in any deal or Medicare/Medicare. We did not re-elect the President to cave in, support him with a no vote if a deal includes any cuts in these programs.......

— MILWAUKEE, 2012-12-18 16:40:05

No democrat will ever get my vote again as long as I live if they cut social security by even a penny. The benefit should raised not lowered as they have not kept pace with the cost of living. Cutting benefits to people that earned them in order to give more tax breaks to millionaires is utterly immoral.

— Oshkosh, 2012-12-18 16:47:08

— Sheboygan, 2012-12-18 16:55:49

Senator Kohl was not in. I left the message and a bit more.

— Shorewood, 2012-12-18 18:41:05

left message asking the senator to leave social security alone as it keeps roofs overhead and food on the table. They would cut social security to get the very rich to pay just a few percentage points more in taxes. Repulsive

— Prairie du Chien, 2012-12-18 19:19:03

She said my comments will be sent to Senator Kohl.

— Brule, 2012-12-18 19:36:41

It doesn't matter. I'm terribly disappointed in my President if the news reports are correct that he has caved to at least the $400.000.00 threshhold. He was elected to lead not concede. And, all the rhetoric about statesmanship, and doing what's best for the country and his legacy I believe is alot of bunk. The Republicans would never have caved, in fact, they have hung together for 4 years and this will only give them more fuel. My President's "political capital" has taken a huge hit, and it will not get any better. And, that's too bad. It's going to be another 4 years like the past. My President talking big, the Republicans saying no and then my President caving into to Boehner and the rest of those idiots. Plus, it will hurt our next democratic candidate because the country will know that the word of the candidate is far different than the actions of the electee. This whole charade makes my President look just like the rest of the politicians in Washington - ie never standing up to the final in principle.

— Green Bay, 2012-12-18 20:30:52

Left a message requesting NO cuts to benefits in social security--but perhaps keep pulling social security beyond the 2013 level of $113M. I also asked for him to NOT cut benefits to medicare.

— Waunakee, 2012-12-18 20:35:48

I do not understand why President Obama does not hold on his promise not to touch the S.S on dealing with the republican? is he afraid of the republican invented fiscal cliff?

— Milwaukee, 2012-12-18 21:15:11

I didn't talk to anyone, just left a message on an answering machine.

— Eau Claire, 2012-12-19 07:55:29

Please consider other strategies besides the cutting of social security for so many citizens. I agree with the tax increase for millionaires and that should be included in the financial package. There must be other cuts we can make that do not include cutting social security for so many needed recipients.

— Bayside, 2012-12-19 07:56:14

"Senator Kohl opposes cuts to Social Security." When I asked the staff person if I could count on Senator Kohl to do everything in his power to stop this deal if it includes Social Security benefits, he said, "Yes."

— La Crosse, 2012-12-19 08:03:41

I talked to a real person. He said he would pass my concerns on to the Senator. About me, all he wanted to know was whether I was from Wisconsin.

— Waunakee, 2012-12-19 08:14:31

— Stevens Point, 2012-12-19 08:21:06

The Staffer said they would pass my request along.

— Madison, 2012-12-19 08:28:26

He said that Sen Kohl is opposed to any cuts in SS and would pass it on. I think we should be calling the white house letting Pres. Obama know what we think of his brokered deal. I am.

— wind lake, 2012-12-19 08:55:11

The gentleman I talked to said he would pass my message on. I elaborated on my feelings as a current senior and my concerns for future seniors especially with respect to cost of living raises.

— Pewaukee, 2012-12-19 08:56:34

I left a message and they said they will report it on to the senator. Because this form is so hard to fill out you must not really want my response or you do not accept replys from a firefox browser on a machine using openSuSE 12.1 Operating System. I am sorry I did not share my whole e-mail address by accident and I was taken to an error page that mentioned that I did not fill out all of the fields. The error message did not mention that there were only three (3) fields. The error message did not include that I must ensure that all the fields are complete. The error message did not mention what keyboard charichters are excluded form the submission for safty reasons and then what charichters I can use. I am mentioning this so that it may be useful. I sign and participate in this petitioning all day long and appreciate it when it is quick. :^) Merry Christmas to you all!!!

— Milwaukee, 2012-12-19 09:02:19

I got a receptionist who said she would share my question/comment with the Senator.

— Sun Prairie, 2012-12-19 09:05:52

They said they would give my message to Senator Kohl

— Sun Prairie, 2012-12-19 09:14:19

Senator Kohl has always been strong on Social Security. I said that I was 59, and could live with graduated, limited-term cuts, but that the Senator knew what the majority of his constituents would want.

— Cazenovia, 2012-12-19 09:18:18

I asked them to wake Senator Kohl up. The staff member informed me Senator Kohl actually died 2 years ago. Kinda like Weekend at Bernie's.

— MIlwaukee, 2012-12-19 09:21:50

The staff person said they would share my comments with the senator. I asked them to think about those on SSI or SSD that barely make it now. Cutting the Cost of Living provisions may force them on welfare and cost tax payers even more.

— Milwaukee, 2012-12-19 09:26:49

I already filled this out, but now want to ask: why do't you emphasize that almost 3 trillion dollars have been borrowed from the SS Trust fund by Congress and now the Republicans want to essentially get rid of SS rather than pay it back for what it has borrowed from it. It is a betrayal of trust with the people; it is essentially robbery of private trust monies faithfully paid into by the people; it is a plot to avoid paying a legal debt for which any private citizen would be held accountable, but apparently Congress would be "protected" from legal consequences. In fact Republicans would be,in stead, praised by the party as finally destroying something they didn't want the people to have from its inception. Shame, shame, shame on them.

— Kenosha, 2012-12-19 09:36:08

They said that they will definitely let Senator Kohl know our concerns

— West Bend, 2012-12-19 09:42:57

We pay into this system taken from our income every pay period.

— Madison, 2012-12-19 09:45:46

Please DO NOT cut Social Security as many people depend solely on it to live since they have no pension.

— , 2012-12-19 09:52:35

Do any of you people really realize how little people on Social Security really get to live on. I really believe you people should give up your taxpayer payed for pension and health care and buy your own. What I really want also is for all of you in government to participate in Social Security like the rest of us have to. Maybe you will think twice about how to cut spending. Cut at the top where it belongs and get a big chunk, don't cut at the bottom where all you get is little pieces, that's stupid. We have so much less than you do and you are getting yours for almost nothing. I can't vote myself a raise, why should you be able to? That should be up to the voters.

— Sun Prairie, 2012-12-19 10:14:03

The person I spoke with said the Senator apposes any cuts to SS. I asked if we can count on him and the reply was YES>

— Fond du Lac, 2012-12-19 10:30:30

Will not support any change to SS or Med care

— Baraboo, 2012-12-19 10:38:18

She said she would share my views with the senator.

— Oconomowoc, 2012-12-19 13:06:58

I phoned Senator Kohl's office and talked to one of his staff, I gave my name and where I lived, and asked that should he receive a bill that contained cuts to Medicare, and Social Security, would he please vote no, she said she would see that he got my message.

— Luck, 2012-12-19 13:10:12

Sen. Kohl doesn't talk to his constituents. His staff just takes the message.

— Westbend, 2012-12-19 13:11:11

They would tell Senator Kohl what I had said and they would get back to me on how he voted.

— New London, 2012-12-19 13:20:49

At 3:20pm CST on Wed, Dec 19, that phone number was answered by a recorded message inviting me to leave a message. I said that cuts to subsidies for oil companies and military spending must be made and there is no reason to consider Cost of Living cuts to Social Security.

— Middleton, 2012-12-19 13:23:21

Please act on behalf of retired folks. Todays comments from the President only mentioned only middle class nothing about retired folks and less SS.

— Sun Prairie, 2012-12-19 13:26:33

staff person was uncommittal but listened to my detailed message.

— Egg Harbor, 2012-12-19 13:31:35

— Tomahawk, 2012-12-19 17:50:21

— WAUWATOSA, 2012-12-19 18:04:10

It was a recorded message.

— Verona, 2012-12-19 18:55:40

They have a good retirement plan and get 174 thousand a year and yet their is no discussion on taking a cut in their entilements!!!!

— Green Bay, 2012-12-20 07:59:00

I said supporting cuts to social security would be a black mark on Kohl's legacy!

— Madison, 2012-12-20 08:10:02

Sen. Kohl is a 1%-er. I said it would be outrageous for him to vote for cuts in SS/Mcare on his way out the door. The voice said "I completely understand; I have your comments". Since the voice didn't have time to write anything, we joked that he had columns marked For, Against & Oh What the Hell. I fell into the latter.

— Racine, 2012-12-20 08:13:05

Said he generally stands with no cuts to medicaid and soc sec, but he is not stating a position until he sees the bill. Staffer is passing my message on.

— sturgeon bay, 2012-12-20 10:01:51

Will pass info on. I asked how the calls from his constituents have been running; she said they get all kinds of calls and don't have any data on for vs. against.

— Madison, 2012-12-20 11:37:52

The staffer that took the call said she would pass along my concerns.

— Beaver Dam, 2012-12-20 12:23:13

Staff said they would share my comments with the senator.

— New Berlin, 2012-12-20 12:27:47

I did call and ask that Sen Kohl would not support the social security deal.

— Milwaukee, 2012-12-20 12:34:58

Will pass it on to the Senator

— Mequon, 2012-12-20 13:12:20

Person at Kohl's office says the senator has never and will not vote for cuts to Social Security and Medicare.

— Madison, 2012-12-20 13:17:45

Senator Kohl, you have always stood up for the people of Wisconsin. Please do not bow to political pressure and cut Earned Benefits programs (Social Security and Medicare) as your last major act in office.

— Monona, 2012-12-20 13:20:14

The person who answered said she'd pass the message along to the governor.

— River Falls, 2012-12-20 14:19:12

Lady at his office said he is commited to maintainag strong Soc. Sec.

— Evansville, 2012-12-20 14:35:02

No cuts or changing cola

— Kimberly, 2012-12-20 14:56:19

"Thank you for calling"

— Viola, 2012-12-20 14:59:54

I had to leave a voice message for Senator Kohl. But I am totally on board for no cuts to SS benefits.

— Verona, 2012-12-20 17:02:21

Staffer said the Senator is opposed to all cuts. I did not, at the time, ask for public commitment. This call was a couple of days ago.

— Pepin, 2012-12-20 17:12:28

I called Sen Kohl's office a week or two ago, and the staffer said that Sen. Kohl was committed to voting against cuts to these programs, but I'm skeptical. I've also written to my other senator and congressional representative, but they're intransigent Republicans.

— Waukesha, 2012-12-20 18:14:17

I'll pass that message along.

— Greendale, 2012-12-21 06:27:29

I know you are leaving public service so do this one last thing for us; stop any legislation that cuts benefits to the elderly, the poor, and the disabled. Make the very wealthy pay their fair share for our schools, roads, etc. thanks and happy holidays

— Muscoda, 2012-12-21 06:34:03

Senator Kohl has not made a statement, but has always been supportive to Social Security.

— Waupaca, 2012-12-21 06:46:48

Staff said that Sen. Kohl generally opposes any cuts to those eprograms.

— Milwaukee, 2012-12-21 08:49:44

Person who answered said he would pass on the message.

— Wisconsin Rapids, 2012-12-21 11:50:19

The staffer said that he didn't have a response on this yet but would convey my message.

— Madison, 2012-12-21 13:46:02

Do NOT support cuts to social security to balance the budget. This is unfair to folks who have paid into the system. It is not social security that caused any part of the deficit.

— Muskego, 2012-12-22 07:01:58

Please vote down any measures that would change CPI calculations for Social Security COLAs. It would hurt all SS recipients, but especially elderly people with low incomes. Consider raising the income limit for withholding instead.

— Wauwatosa, 2012-12-23 09:54:37

Office stated he hasn't come out with a position

— Sobieski, 2012-12-26 07:57:31
