What Other MoveOn Members Are Hearing

I spoke to an aide that answered the phone and they said they would pass the message along.

o an aide that answered the phone and they said they would pass the message along

— Woodstock, 2012-12-18 07:38:11

I spoke directly with the Washington Office. Both do not support the Social Security cuts. I am fairly confident that they would not vote for it but I am not sure. Peter Welch has only stated that he will not vote for a bad deal but has not commented on this proposal.

— North Pomfret, 2012-12-18 07:52:21

Sen. Leahy will respond by letter. Sen. Sanders' aide said she will give him the message and he will respond by letter. I got no impression of what they will do, but I'm sure they are pro-Social Security, esp. Mr. Sanders.

— Rochester, 2012-12-18 08:22:22

I left a message with Senator Sanders aide.

— Barton, 2012-12-18 08:25:19

At Leahys number I left a message. At Sanders I spoke to an aide who said she would pass it along to the Senator. I live in Ripton VT, My name is Catherine Braun

— Ripton, 2012-12-18 08:50:50

I left a message for Senator Leahy not to touch Social Security. I spoke with an aid for Senator Sanders and left the same message.

— Bennington, 2012-12-18 08:58:16

left message for Leahy because I am not sure I can trust him to stand up to outside influences. I trust Bernie to do the right thing.

— Brattleboro, 2012-12-18 08:58:53

Leahy representative said he is solidly behind changes to social security. Sanders rep. said thank you for calling.

— Manchester,, 2012-12-18 09:09:05

spoke to aide who would pass the message along

— Killington, 2012-12-18 09:16:20

Spoke to aides at both offices. Was assured at Sen. Sanders office that he would fight this and not go along

— Woodstock, 2012-12-18 09:16:22

Both Senator's office folk answered the phone on the second ring! They are on it! This is how it is suppose to work.

— Huntington, 2012-12-18 09:19:37

The people who answered at both offices said they would pass the message on.

— Westford, 2012-12-18 09:31:49

They will both work to stop the deal.

— Burlington, 2012-12-18 10:24:06

Bernie especially is much stronger than anyone else in Congress (well, maybe Nancy Pelosi is right there with him) on these programs. I called both offices and I know that Leahy's is getting a lot of calls. I spoke to aides in both offices.

— Newport, 2012-12-18 10:37:34

I left a message for both Leahey and Sanders.

— Putney, 2012-12-18 10:38:42

All they wanted was my mailing address. Please!

— Pinewood, 2012-12-18 10:51:56

An aide said would pass on our support

— Broookline, 2012-12-18 11:10:02

I spoke to an aide that answered the phone and they said they would pass the message along.

— Warren, 2012-12-18 12:15:41

The men who answered my calls made sure to tell me how Senator Saunders is working hard and is very firm on these points....Very similar agreement at Senator Leahy's office. We all know these men have been on top of this matter and are giving it all they've got. Now we need Action.

— killington, 2012-12-18 12:19:36

This is interesting. Someone in Bernie Sander's office was more responsive to me than my own senators -- Schumer and Gillibrand. I asked him to pass a message along to Senator Sanders which he said he would and I also asked to tell him to get in touch with my Senators. I'm sorry I don't live in Vermont.

— New York, 2012-12-18 14:43:51

Many thanks for your help with my Social SSecurity and I sure hope and pray that I don't loss it. Thanks for whatever you do to help.!

— , 2012-12-18 18:08:55

I left a message... thank you for your work Move.Org. Washington rep for Vt do not make cuts to SS, medicad or medicare!!!

— Weston, 2012-12-19 04:02:11

I talked with the aide in both offices. They promised to pass my message to the Senators

— Goshen, 2012-12-19 07:14:03

I left a message at each office. Interesting - Senator Leahy's office asked my name, Senator Sander's office did not.

— St. Albans, 2012-12-19 07:50:04

My experience is exactly that of North Pomfret, 2012-12-18 07:52:21 as regards both Senators. told both that I was spesking for myself & my wife. We live in Bridgewater.

— Bridgewater Corners, 2012-12-19 09:01:52

spoke with someone in his office and thanked the senator for all that he is doing to help those of us on social security - wish he would run for president.

— maggie valley, 2012-12-19 09:10:24

I spoke with both of their aides who said that they'd pass the messages on.

— Springfield, 2012-12-19 09:26:07

The young man who answered said that he would forward my message, which also advised the Sen. to instruct our President NOT to throw old people under the bus.

— Townshend, 2012-12-19 10:05:43

It is said that a society is judged by the way they care for and respect their elders. Here we have a President, elected by both electoral and popular vote -- daring to think that he can bed down with the "den of thieves" led by none other than Mr. Bonehead of the blue state of Ohio. How dare they even think of this. Secondly, if the choice is cutting social security or cutting the assault weapons that US military uses to kill the babies, husbands, wives, elders of other societies around our Planet, then it should be a no-brainer of what is the right path to take. We live in a world of violence, and the role modeling of a character which is respectful of other citizens of the World, and truly believes in peace should start with Y-O=U, Mr. President, and with Y-O-U Mr. Head of the Senate. Let all of our hearts and minds be filled with PEACE! Bob A. Plainfield, VT

— Plainfield, 2012-12-19 16:24:17

I spoke with and aide at Senator Sanders' office that said he does not support cuts to Social Security and would pass on the message. I left a message with an aide at Senator Leahy's office. The aide did not state whether he was for or against the reported cuts to Social Security.

— Olympus, 2012-12-20 07:41:29

Talked to staff, they were supportive but non commital

— Richmond, 2012-12-20 09:03:14

In honesty, I did not ask the Senators whether they are committed to "stop the deal". I instead registered my ire that Obama has Social Security on the table. I asked did the Senator(s) feel similarly. The answer in both cases was "yes" quite clearly. Social Security should not be involved in any way in making the general budget more fiscally sound. It is a totally separate program from the general budget. I imagine Medicare is the same but I don't know that for a fact. Finally I said, this "my way or we go over the cliff" negotiation stance of the Republicans is completely irresponsible. OK, Obama, stand up. If they are going to black mail the Democrats again with their outrageous positions, it is time to call their bluff. Do not back down and give "again". That was my message. And the aid gave the impression that the Senators were also mad about this, bu they did not say specifically "Go to the wall, don't back down" would be their position.

— Montpelier, 2012-12-20 09:07:10

spoke with an aide who said the message will be passed along.

— Calais, 2012-12-21 08:25:31

Please don't let them cut Social Security Benefits. Please Help the seniors. The wealthly could help with the taxes.

Nope, look at all the time and money spent on Cancer and we still haven't cured it.Not sure where you're getting your Iraq nubemrs from but the Official Report to Congress in the URL#1 below lists the total cost of Iraq, Afganistan and other Global War on Terrorism to be $700Billion covering FY2001-FY2008.You may not support the Iraq War, but if Vietnam was adjusted for todays cost what do you think that War would cost? You have JFK to thank for getting us into that Civil War.US Deaths should be appalling, but Iraq has seen 4000+ over four years Vietnam saw 47,378 US Dead over eleven years, with 14,594 killed in 1968 alone. URL#2 below.I'm also curious as to your sources for the Green Technology which has been around for 6 decades? Is this something we supposedly got from Roswell?Alternative Energy in general has been available for many decades in the form of Propane. It was never adopted because there was no infra-structure to sell Propane around the country like we do at Gas Stations. This is the same thing that will plaque Hydrogen Fuel Cells and other options.Probably the most Green Technology out there when you consider what pollution is generated for the whole technology is Nuclear. The pollution generated to produce components for Solar and Wind Technology is much higher it's why some Environmental Groups are now backing Nuclear as a viable option.People are also confusing Renewable Energy with Green Energy. Biofuels, especially corn-based, cause more pollution (including Greenhouse Gases) than Fossil Fuels. There are several sources which cite the problems with Biofuels, but Time Magazine is a familiar source and you don't have to worry about some obscure site you've never heard of. URL#3 is below. It also costs us rainforests worldwide, artificially high food costs in the US and artificial food shortages worldwide which we can see right now.Hell, if we stopped all the Entitlements such as Social Security, Medicare / Medicaid, Welfare and others we would remove over 2/3 of the estimated $9.4Trillion National Budget for this year alone. That's over $6Trillion available to research Alternative Green Energy. The scary part is that less than 1/3 of that estimated National Budget goes to the Military, Operating the actual Government, National Parks, the EPA, NASA, Homeland Security, FEMA and everything else. URL#4 below. The Entitlements will continue to grow, especially the Social Security debt our Surplus has already been spent and is secured by Government IOUs. Those IOUs will need to be repaid with interest by future generations talk about mortgaging our childrens future!
