What Other MoveOn Members Are Hearing

Could only talk to receptionist. promised to pass It on to Mr. merkley and Mr wyden. hope it helped....

— Salem, 2012-12-18 08:00:50

I was unable to reach the President, so I emailed hime

— junctiom, 2012-12-18 08:08:09

Widen didn't answer. BJ in Merkely said he would pass the message on. Send us H Reid's phone number and Pres. Obama number

— Ashland, 2012-12-18 08:29:10

Jeff Merkley almost always is on the side of the people and I think he will be on this issue. Senator Wyden's aide said that she thought he was against any cuts of social security. But, Oregon is a very lucky state to have representative who care about the people.

— Creswell, 2012-12-18 08:53:02

Both offices said they would pass along the message. We voted Democratic to not have this kind of situation happen.

— Milton-Freewater, 2012-12-18 08:58:01

Talked to a real person in both offices, asked each one to ask the senators to remind President Obama that he WON the election and shouldn't trade away our Social Security benefits.

— Applegate, 2012-12-18 09:03:03

The girl who answered the phone said she "can't speak for Seantor Wyden" when I asked if I could count on him to block any cuts to Social Security. She went on to say that the senator always works to protect Social Security. I'm a little annoyed that the senators don't give their receptionists talking points so they can respond to callers' questions on topics of major interest to the public.

— Redmond, 2012-12-18 09:19:14

Mr Wyden, you have championed our state for many years in Washington. Don't be afraid of the vocal but few who hate America and Americans and who only love the obscenely wealthy. Social Security does not add to the debt and you and they know it. We know it too. Don't back down now, you're almost to the win.

— Beaverton, 2012-12-18 09:21:07

On hold for a very long time and finally had to hang up. Will try later.

— Springfield, 2012-12-18 09:23:56

It is wrong to cut these benefits.

— Tigard`, 2012-12-18 09:28:02

I was not able to speak with the senator, so I left my message with the staffer with whom I had been speaking. I'll bet if I had a great deal of money I could have spoken with anyone I wished.

— Beaverton, 2012-12-18 09:31:23

Aide said she can't speak for the senator but would pass my comments along. I assume this means he is wavering.

— Hood River, 2012-12-18 09:33:10

I was told Wyden feels SS is a seperate issue and is not connected to the budget. I asked to have someone from his office call me and tell me his position. I told his office that as an elected official, he should have a position on SS and both Medicare and Medicaid and since I voted for him in November and have voted for him in the past I was very disappointed at his waffling and not having a position. I also told his office the Merkely from OR is firm to not involve these issues. I Also said SS was NOT an entitlement since we Pay I to it in order to have money out. The presidents phone has been busy all morning!! I will email him.

— Portland, 2012-12-18 09:33:14

Thank you for your message.

— Corvallis, 2012-12-18 09:36:07

Spoke with Senator Wyden's receptionist. According to her he has not shared his intentions with her to comment on, but that he is keeping a tally of comments from Oregonians calling his office. She also said that he traditionally has apposed any cuts to Social Security, Medicaid, and the Medicare programs.

— Lebanon, 2012-12-18 09:37:40

Receptionist promised to pass my comments on to the senator. Said his records show he has protected these. I programs in the past. I told her he is either for the Ammerican people or not and he needs to speak up now. I will the local office as well

— Portland, 2012-12-18 09:39:32

said they'd pass the message on but said they'd been getting alot of calls about this....

— wakefield, 2012-12-18 09:41:21

Called both. Unable to speak with them directly, but was very firm in my resolve that they influence President Obama's decision to include Social Security in spending cut.

— Dexter, 2012-12-18 09:41:47

the person said they will pass my message on to Sen. Wyden. I know Sr. Merkley will fight for us, not sure anymore about Sen. Wyden.

— Portland, 2012-12-18 09:43:09

Please Keep Your Hands off our Social Security and Medicare. I am on both and can not afford any cuts ur reductions. It is too hard to live on the income I receive now and if it where cut it woul d be impossible to live. Again please do not cut Social Security or Medicare. Thank you Charlie Knoll. Gresham Or.

— Gresham, 2012-12-18 09:47:42

Obviously, countless other constituents are trying to contact our senators. While I was able to lv. my msg. w/one of Sen. Wyden's staffers, all I got from Sen. Merkley's was an endless period on hold. I will keep trying.

— Ashland, 2012-12-18 09:47:51

couldn't stay on phone all day, urged Sen. Wydon to vote no on any plan to cut Social Security, Medi-care, or the cost of living allowance.

— North Bend, 2012-12-18 09:47:55

— talent, 2012-12-18 09:59:07

— Mayville, 2012-12-18 09:59:54

I left a message for Sen. Merkley , passed message to Sen. Wyden staff. Before we cut into social programs, can we end the war 1st, let's see what needs to be cut after ending the war. Thanks, Mitch Penner

— eugene, 2012-12-18 10:01:12

This is Tom Finholt. Please, keep social security benefits for people with mental illness or other disablities that need treatment and medicine and need money for food and independent housing of their own who have worked and now cant work due to injury. Thanks, Tom Finholt Neo 2012 to 2013

— WILDWOOD, 2012-12-18 10:01:43

spoke to assistant in Senator's office. Told that the Senator has supported Medicare, Medicade and Social Security in the past. No statement has been made by the Senator yet about this, but from past votes we can make some safe assumptions about the Senators support of these programs.

— Portland, 2012-12-18 10:04:16

We just got a %5 raise. so I asked why take that away, and they asked for my zip code. I asked them to protect us-ok

— Grants Pass, 2012-12-18 10:05:35

I expect Wyden will be a sellout. He is a vast disappointment to those of us who supported him for his words and lived to regret his deeds.

— Portland, 2012-12-18 10:10:21

The aide said: "Sen. Wyden has always voted in favor of Social Security and Medicare." - was otherwise noncommital.

— Cave Junction, 2012-12-18 10:11:39

Not only no, but hell no!

— Irrigon, 2012-12-18 10:15:46

I sent emails to both senators.

— Sisters, 2012-12-18 10:17:35

Non-committal responses from the aids in both offices. Terrebonne

— Terrebonne, 2012-12-18 10:19:01

The secretary said I'll pass it on to the Senator.

— Talent, 2012-12-18 10:22:39

As usual, I received a kind and thoughtful dialogue with Senator Merkley's representative and a promise to make sure that my concerns reach him. However, as usual, that was not my experience with Senator Wyden's representative. I doubt my comments will reach him and, frankly I don't believe it would matter if my comments did reach him. I hope that Wyden faces a serious primary challenger next time.

— Springfield, 2012-12-18 10:32:06

Wyden -- Strongly supports SS but staffer didn't know where he stands on present range of issues; Merkley was among 20 + senators signing letter not to touch SS (Sept) but staffer doesn't know where he stands relative to present issues tho thinks he will stand fast.

— Ashland, 2012-12-18 10:34:30

Person answered and said they would be glad to leave the message for Senator Merkley

— Ashlalnd, 2012-12-18 10:36:24

I called both offices and talked with staff, who listened. I asked them to be willing to give on Social Security, which is unsustainable in its current form. Changes should be means tested. We've gone from our elderly being the poorest among our demographic groups to the richest. We must deal with this!!!!!

— Portland, 2012-12-18 10:36:40

I do not have money for phone calls. Please use online petitions to contact our legislators. Thanks for your hard work and for considering this message.

— Ashland, 2012-12-18 10:37:47

Merkley on board Wyden unclear

— Corvallis, 2012-12-18 10:40:00

Please do not allow them to cut Social Security or Vets benefits. I rely on the small amount I get. My nephew relies on his benefits after two tours in Iraq. Please protect these promises.

— Eugene, 2012-12-18 10:44:43

Wyden doesn't have a stated position but his aide said he has always supported keeping social security in tact

— Portland, 2012-12-18 10:45:08

I talked with representatives in both senators' offices who took my messages without saying what the senators intend to do.

— Coos Bay, 2012-12-18 10:46:51

Receptionists said would pass the message on.

— Pleasant Hill, 2012-12-18 10:49:30

Said she would pass my message on (No SSI cuts & raise taxes on top 2% as our POTUS was elected 2 do...) She then asked 4 my zip code (97761).

— Warm Springs, 2012-12-18 10:50:17

We all know SS has not contributed to the deficit, and the people losing out are not the ones who caused this financial crisis. Why should they be the ones to sacrifice while the ones who did it cause get bonuses.

— Bend, 2012-12-18 11:02:25

Senator Wydon doesnot have a public statement prepared for comment. Why the hell not? Its another sellout by mealy mouth Wyden. Pisses me off. He is either for us or he is against us. It loos like he is against us. Is'nt a senators/ongrswsmans retirement an entitlement? Cut that first.

— Boring, 2012-12-18 11:05:01

Both Senator Merkley's and Wyden's office staff only answered that they would "pass that along" to the Senator.

— Portland, 2012-12-18 11:11:42

Spoke w/staff. Advised Senator has always supported SS/Medicare & Medicaid in past; however, has not made statement one way or the other at this time. Will pass on my concerns.

— Corvallis, 2012-12-18 11:18:58

I called both offices and gave my comments, reasons, and support for opposing. Senator Merkley's office says he opposes and that my message would be passed along. Senator Wyden's office said in the past he has opposed changes but has not made an official statement yet. They said that my comments will be passed along. I didn't feel reassured.

— Dallas, 2012-12-18 11:24:07

Mostly their staff member said that they would pass the message on. Is it possible to get a phone number for Obama's office?

— Ashland, 2012-12-18 11:28:17

Hands off of Social Security. I have paid many years for this small amount that is given each month and to cut the cost of living raise, which is not adequa to the rising costs is not what Obama ran his campaign on.

— Tigard, 2012-12-18 11:29:13

You must be kidding! The people who should be taking cuts are in congress! My uncle recieves the lowest S.S. payment as it is and he cannot live on $588.00 a month. Are we going to start seeing seniors out begging on the streets. People who actually worked for this money.

— Ashland, 2012-12-18 11:32:30

In both calls, receptionist answered, I expressed I did not want Social Security benefits tampered with, and that they should increase taxes on capital gains.

— Medford, 2012-12-18 11:39:17

Stop harassing old people living on meager income that they worked all their life to secure. Let us fix the real issue & that is create jobs. We all know that Social Security is not the real problem that is the job market.

— Lake Oswego, 2012-12-18 11:40:23

I am legally blind and can not make ends meet as it is. Please don't make anymore cuts to SSI earned benefits (not entitlements!). Thank you

— Studio City, 2012-12-18 11:58:59

Spoke to Senator Merkley's assistant. She said she would pass on my comments. Spoke with an aid at Senator Wyden's office. He said that Senator Wyden has always supported Social Security, but since it isn't clear what will be in the bill yet, he doesn't know how he will vote.

— Ashland, 2012-12-18 12:01:22

Thanked for my support. Spoke to both aides

— Newport, 2012-12-18 12:04:11

I sent emails to both senators. to Wyden: It looks like our president is about cave in to the Republicans on Social Security - offering to use chained CPI to calculate the inflation adjustment. This COLA is not appropriate for seniors. It would have negligible impact on the deficit but cause hardship for a large number of people. Please don't let him do this. Thank you. to Merkley: With our president looking like he's going to cave in to the Republicans on the Social Security COLA, your strong defense of SS is greatly appreciated. The chained CPI is inappropriate for seniors. it would have negligible effect on the deficit but cause hardship for a great many people. I know you have been working to adopt a COLA more appropriate for seniors, not less. Thank you.

— Springfield, 2012-12-18 12:06:20

i already emailed them early this morning along with my rep. earl blumenhauer. no responses yet.

— Portland, 2012-12-18 12:10:01

Staff said we don't know what is on the table. The senator has always supported Social Security and I will pass along your wish that he not support any cuts to SS, Medicare/Medicaid

— Sarasota, 2012-12-18 12:10:16

Wishy-washy response I got last week when I phoned: that historically Sen. Wyden has opposed cuts... I had a scolding tone, but my words were polite enough. I said that we needed Sen. Wyden to strongly state he would abide no cuts in any deal AND that the 2% should be taxed at the Clinton-era rates.

— Portland, 2012-12-18 12:13:43

Neither party stated definitively that they would oppose the cuts. They just cited previous stands on cuts to SS.

— Salem, 2012-12-18 12:15:21

His D.C. assistant he had long supported the three programs and planned no change in his stance. I then asked why he was on your wavering list. Why is he?

— Portland, 2012-12-18 12:21:29

Ron Wyden's line rang + 25 times w/no answer! Jeff Merkley office answered immediate and said "please hold" but no one ever came back online!

— Florence, 2012-12-18 12:22:32

Talked with Senator Merkley's aid, said she would pass along my comments. Wouldn't comment on his stand.

— Pleasant Hill, 2012-12-18 12:22:50

I left a message for Senator Merkley and could not get thru to Senator Wyden K Walker

— Dexter, 2012-12-18 12:27:23

I talked to aides in both Merkley's and Wyden's offices told them I was a Senior living on Social Security and they needed to stand firm, no cuts !!!

— Bend, 2012-12-18 12:33:46

I was told that Senator Wyden is opposed to any deal that includes cuts to Social Security.

— cloverdale, 2012-12-18 12:35:05

I sent an email to Wyden, Merkley, & Defazio stating: I am personally against any reduction of benefits to social security including the chained CPI. We should be looking for ways to increase benefits and for a CPI that is based on the actual costs incurred by folks who are collecting social security including food, transportation (as in to and from their doctors & medical treatments), medicines, utilities, etc. I will not vote for anyone who votes for a bill that reduces benefits in any way for people on Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid.

— Port Orford, 2012-12-18 12:35:51

A representative took a message at each of the offices.

— Central Point, 2012-12-18 12:36:22

Didn't ask; left a message to disallow cuts but keep an eye on SS fraud.

— Prineville, 2012-12-18 12:37:08

People who answered the calls at both offices said they would pass along the message to the senator.

— Eugene, 2012-12-18 12:43:09

I did not talk to Merkley. I left my message: vote against B's "plan B." Vote against cuts to social security. Merkley's office answered immediately; there was a wait at Wyden's office. Still haven't gotten through.

— Eugene, 2012-12-18 12:43:20

Receptionist did say that Wyden was against any cuts.

— Springfield, 2012-12-18 12:44:21

Spoke with a staff person regarding cuts to SS and Medicare. About Medicare cuts more needs to b done to identify fraud, waste, and abuse before cutting benefits.

— Salem, 2012-12-18 12:46:00

I told the staffer that we need Wyden to stand firm and not allow Obama to cave in per usual, to filibuster if need be, but to NOT ALLOW ANY CUTS TO SOCIAL SECURITY OR MEDICARE!

— Yucaipa, 2012-12-18 12:52:23

Nothing from Sen. Wyden Sen. Merkley I am told oposses any cuts in Medicare or Social Security but he was not available at this time

— Medford, 2012-12-18 12:58:06

— Stayton, 2012-12-18 13:06:34

wyden's office....person asked for zip and said thank you without even listening to my very short hands off statement. he hung up. Are they listening. McMinnville, OR 97128 Merkley's office no answer only answer machine

— McMinnville, 2012-12-18 13:08:40

I emailed the above with your message.

— bend, 2012-12-18 13:09:32

Both staff members for Sen. Merkly & Sen. Wyden will give them my message, about can I count on them to do everything in your power to stop this deal if it includes the reported cuts to Social Security benefits, education, & cuts to the Oregon Health Plan.

— Eugene, 2012-12-18 13:09:53

Sen. Wyden's secretary pointed out that the Senator has always voted in favor of social security. And although she could not speak for Mr. Wyden herself, she assured me that he was not on the fence on this issue, just waiting for the Obama/Boehner negotiations to conclude to see what's really on the table.

— Dallas, 2012-12-18 13:11:12

The person who answered the phone said she will be sure the senator gets my message.

— Phoenix, 2012-12-18 13:14:31

I'm on perma-hold. "Due to a large number of calls, your call will be answered in the order..." So I'm *still* on hold.

— eugene, 2012-12-18 13:14:52

We cannot do it all with tax increases. Spending cuts MUST be part of the equation. What spending cuts does MoveOn suggest?

— Portland, 2012-12-18 13:21:03

He hasn't yet committed one way or the other. I made my point very strongly! The phones are overloaded at his office. I talked to a secretary who said she'd pass on the message. She also said that Senator Wyden has always been opposed to cuts........

— Willamette, 2012-12-18 13:21:49

Could not reach either one but the person answering the phone said they both were against any cuts to social security

— Gresham, 2012-12-18 13:22:58

They said ok!

— Eugene, 2012-12-18 13:23:07

She said she would pass it along to the Senator and they were getting a lot of calls.

— Portland, 2012-12-18 13:23:19

Wyden seems like he is wavering to see which way the wind is blowing.

— Hillsboro, 2012-12-18 13:25:01

Im on ssi all i have to live on and take care of my six year old. Its not enough as it is please dont cut ss. We depend on this to survive.

— Portland, 2012-12-18 13:25:34

Shut it down. Go home. No deal. Why is the President going against his word? The rich have a lot more to lose on this than the res of us. Grab both hands and put them on the wheel, aim that congress to the fiscal cliff, and put your foot on the floor. We are sick of this. Please help us.

— Portland, 2012-12-18 13:27:09

Please save our social security from not receiving increases due to inflation. We need every dime we can get!

— FLORENCE, 2012-12-18 13:30:40

— Florence, 2012-12-18 13:37:58

spoke to Merkeley's Rep, but was pt on endless hold when I called wyden's office. grew tired of listening to piped music & hung up.

— Ashland, 2012-12-18 13:38:08

Was able to leave message with Senator Merkley but Wyden message was to be on hold for next available person. Did not wait to be on hold.

— Bend, 2012-12-18 13:39:33

The person taking the call in Sen. Wyden's Portland office kindly said she would pass along my comments to the Senator. I got voice mail in Sen. Wyden's Eugene office. I did not call Sen. Merkley's office because I am confident he will not cave on this issue. I'm not so sure about Sen. Wyden. I hope my fears are unfounded!!! Thanks for the reminder to do this.

— Eugene, 2012-12-18 13:40:14

I told a staff member of sen wyden that he started his political career helping to start older citizens with health care issues and it would seem that he could not vote for any cuts to social security with the history he has staked his political life on. The staff member said he would pass it on

— mc minnville, 2012-12-18 13:43:15

Wydens phone answerer said "we want to thank you for staying informed and for going to the effort of calling." Like both men, except Wyden being "open" to fracking in Oregon.

— Salem, 2012-12-18 13:45:40

Senator Merkley's office said he is opposed to any cuts to SS.

— Ashland, 2012-12-18 13:45:43

Told them flat out to leave SS alone!!!

— Portland, 2012-12-18 13:48:26

emailed both, no response yet

— Bend, 2012-12-18 13:51:38

I got left in terminal hold...bummer...

— Milton Freewater, 2012-12-18 13:54:32

— cornelius, 2012-12-18 13:55:14

His staff person agreed with us, I think, said would pass it on to him.

— Portland, 2012-12-18 13:58:37

No answer, no voicemail!

— Santa Rosa, 2012-12-18 13:58:45

I called both offices and spoke to staff. Ron Wyden's office said thanks and took my info to add to other calls,I'm sure. Jeff Merkley's staff took my info and told me that he just released a statement that stated he was opposed to any SS cuts, especially cost of living benefits.

— Eugene, 2012-12-18 14:00:53

Senator Merkleys rep said he released a statement today and is not planning on cutting the cost of living increase. I asked if he was planning on negotiating any other way and she said he has not made a statement on that. I requested she add to my concerns that I am now on social security disability because workmans comp denied my claim and Oregon is known to be one of the most difficult states to win a workmans comp claim. (Business likes this, Unable to get through to Wyden because of the call volume.

— Newport, 2012-12-18 14:01:55

Senator please do the as Jeff Merkley and stop any cuts SS.

— Cornelius, 2012-12-18 14:06:37

No public statement from Wyden, but shared his opposition to cutting in the past

— Eugene, 2012-12-18 14:07:16

The "Admin. Assistant" said he would pass on the message.

— Portland, 2012-12-18 14:07:55

Ron Wyden's office said they had no official statement, and Senator Merkley's receptionist said he was working on some paperwork for it.

— Gales Creek, 2012-12-18 14:09:38

merkley's staffer said he'd just released a public statement that he opposes any and all cuts to social security. wyden's staffer, when asked if he's yet made his position known, said not yet, but in past he's opposed any cuts to social security.

— Medford, 2012-12-18 14:10:58

Senator Wyden Aide; " He supports social security-blab, blab, blab, blab" Senator Merkley Aide: " His writen position is out, he will not allow Social Security to be tampered with...: "

— Lyons, 2012-12-18 14:18:15

Spoke to an aid who said Senator Wyden has always supported Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid. He did not know what the Senator's position is exactly at the moment. I said, if he somehow veers from his former position, I will use my vote accordingly.

— Ashland, 2012-12-18 14:23:01

Recording with Merkley, left message. Wyden office person said she would pass the message on and thanks very much for my opinion. Also, I also feel that the CPI measurement should stay the same for federal retirees. This is one if the reasons I stayed in the career path with the federal government. I had planned my retirement according to this very important CPI index. If things need to be changed, grandfather it in for newly hired employees, so they can plan ahead for their retirements.

— Klamath Falls, 2012-12-18 14:26:51

Sent Merkley an e-mail

— Mt Angel, 2012-12-18 14:28:00

They said they'd pass the message on

— Pleasant Hill, 2012-12-18 14:32:34

asked for zip code...requested that they not cut SSI or medicare stated that I was surprised to find Wyden's name on a list of wavering senators as he has been a pro-oregon/ pro-people senator in the past..was told that she would :pass-it on.

— HAPPY VALLEY, 2012-12-18 14:37:52

wyden has not made a statement yet, merkley has made a statement this am

— Roseburg, 2012-12-18 14:38:43

Couldn't get through to Sen. Wyden's office on the phone, so sent him an email using this form.

— Portland, 2012-12-18 14:39:14

Receptionist said the Senator always sides to support Social Security. I asked why he has not gone public against this proposal to take away benefits in the proposed "deal" with Boehner. She said she did not know but would pass my question along to the Senator.

— Damascus, 2012-12-18 14:39:31

There was no answer at Merkley's office at this time.

— Ashland, 2012-12-18 14:39:46

Receptionist said that she would pass it along and asked for my zip code

— Eugene, 2012-12-18 14:39:59

The spokeswoman said that all she could tell me is that in the past he has consistently voted to protect SS. I asked that the message that I am very concerned about it be passed on. She took my zipcode and said that she would.

— Sutherlin, 2012-12-18 14:42:51

For Sen. Wyden got "Nora" a staff person who said she would "pass it along". For Sen. Merkley, got his voicemail and left a message.

— Ashland, 2012-12-18 14:45:36

Merkley has made a statement that he does not support any cuts to Social Security. Wyden has not made a statement yet, but usually is against cuts to Soc. Sec.

— Marcola, 2012-12-18 14:51:30

I talked to staff at both offices. Sen. Wyden hasn't established his stance, and Sen. Merkley is issuing a statement today reiterating his opposition to Soc Sec cuts.

— Portland, 2012-12-18 14:52:49

Both Senator's Aids reported the Senators had no intention of supporting any cuts in Social Security

— Eugene, 2012-12-18 14:56:45

both who answered the phone for the Senators said both were opposed to the possible deal being made by Obama and Boehner

— eugene, 2012-12-18 15:03:24

Called both offices and talked with staff expressing desire for no deal. Sen. Merkley released statement opposition. Sen. Wyden's staff said heavy volume of calls and thanks for calling.

— Eugene, 2012-12-18 15:05:34

I had to leave a message with the people that answered the phone. I expressed my concern about ANY changes to Social Security, and asked for their support in making sure Social Security benefits remained the same. I contacted both Merkley & Wyden's office.

— Bend, 2012-12-18 15:09:32

Woman who answered phone said she was sure Sen. Wyden would protect SS Benefits but that this issue was too new for her to say what he would do definitely.

— Newberg, 2012-12-18 15:10:15

both took messages .. Secy. to Merkley said he was opposed to cuts in Soc Security benefits.

— Ashland, 2012-12-18 15:14:40

Merkley,s office said he is against cutting social security and medicare. I emailed the White House

— salem, 2012-12-18 15:14:54

waited online a long time.

— Portland, 2012-12-18 15:16:06

Merkley, strong. Wyden, who knows. I am a good contributor to Obama and our pols in Oregon. Any caving now would be stupid. Lets go off the cliff. The world will not end. Lets beat the bullies, not cave in.

— Eugene, 2012-12-18 15:23:43

Merkley has already come out with a statement that he would not support cuts to SS or medicare. He is a good guy. Talked to the receptionist, promised to pass it on to Wyden. He sometimes makes the right choices.

— Bend, 2012-12-18 15:24:08

Couldn't reach Wyden as line was overloaded, will try again. Merkley's people said he released a statement today saying he doesn't approve of any changes to Medicare or Soc Sec.

— Bandon, 2012-12-18 15:37:56

Merkley's web page has anti social security cut message on front page.

— Portland, 2012-12-18 15:43:10

couldn't get through to the DC # so called the Oregon office and left a message at 503 326 7525

— Portland, 2012-12-18 15:44:37

Senator Merkley made a statement this morning that he would not be supporting any cuts. I spoke with a real person and added my personal view that if the dialogue in Congress and Senator could be turned to the underlying problem of lack of jobs, and if we could increase jobs here, we could create a new tax base through full employment, and also help delay the fact that many babyboomers who want to work but can't find it are having to draw on their Social Security as early as 62 or get on Medicare with diagnoses that are linked to depression! It is very depressing and demoralizing to see and be a person who was fully employment left out of participation in sustaining a declining nation while working with optimism to introduce intelligent solutions to employment and social disintegration with viable and creative answers to the "new normal". long wait for Ron Wyden's office - but spoke with Nora Apter, excellent aide from Oregon, serving Wyden's office in DC. I will send her some info on all the ideas and projects we are attempting to grow into jobs and new ways to address the "survivality" of our region, which due to lack of forward thinking and actions crossed the line from Sustainability to Survivability a couple years ago. Without jobs to support the people and the tax base, our future will be bleak indeed.

— Ashland, 2012-12-18 15:47:43

Spoke to someone in the office, told her that we (my husband and I) were appalled that Wyden was not standing strong to protect social security and medicare. When he was first elected as a representative, it was because he had earned strong support for his work for senior citizens and medicine. The Oregon nurses organization were supporters of his. In the last few years he has become a wobbler about programs that he once advocated for. The person answering the phone said she would pass my message along, and I asked that she use the word "appalled" when she did. She said that she would

— Corvallis, 2012-12-18 15:59:36

per staff: no public statement yet, but in the past has voted to protect social security.

— Portland, 2012-12-18 16:06:43

Spoke to staffers for Wyden and Walden. Left message for Merkley. Could not reach Obama so I emailed him.

— Ashland, 2012-12-18 16:14:08

Et tu Brute? Are you too ready to sell us down the river and enable the government to steal our life's savings the government has absolutely no right to? How quickly dems forget the midterms...seniors are like elephants; they don't forget and quelle supreeeez, they always vote, canvas and phone bank and most important dip into vital resources to get you re-elected.

— haverhill, 2012-12-18 16:21:31

i left a message with senator wyden. please send me harry reid's email.

— portland, 2012-12-18 17:07:31

They all said they have always supported no cuts to ss benefits, including DeFazio

— Lorane, 2012-12-18 17:44:53

I emailed both on their web sites. Didn't have time to call.

— Ashland, 2012-12-18 17:57:43

Thanks for the work you do to protect Social Security.

— Waldport, 2012-12-18 18:05:13

Wavering. Really??? What are you thinking? My benefit in 2013 is $63 per month more than in 2009. A lot of costs have gone since then. Raise the cap!!!

— Eugene, 2012-12-18 20:22:09

They noted my comments.

— talent, 2012-12-18 20:23:10

Left messages for both opposing SS cuts and increasing taxes to pay a fair share. I know both Wyden and Merkley work for the people. We need to keep both of them in Congress because they do work for us.

— Monmouth, 2012-12-18 21:37:04

I called Sens. Merkley & Wyden as well as Rep. Walden and the White House and left a message with staffers to not cut Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid; to leave the CPI for S.S. alone and to lower eligibility for Medicare to 60

— Medford, 2012-12-18 21:42:34

I was told that they would have no comment until they could see what was being proposed.

— Halfway, 2012-12-18 21:52:36

Please don't penalize the seniors anymore. The last COA adjustment I got was 1.7%. That is nothing. Yet Congress gets raises and Coa. Do you have any idea how many seniors are living on less than $1000/mo. To pay rent, medications, food, gas. I would love to see Congress try to live that way, I will not outlive the amount of money I have put into Social Security

— , 2012-12-18 22:56:12

I certainly know that I can count on Sen. Merkley! I left a message with Sen. Wyden's receptionist.

— Ashland, 2012-12-19 06:26:37

It's all I have for retirement. And I have worked my whole life and paid into the system.

— Ashland, 2012-12-19 06:38:13

Left message with Merkley secretary, said she would certainly pass this on. Couldn't get Wyden will use other resources.

— Powell Butte, 2012-12-19 07:59:03

Wyden's office reminded me that he'd consistently voted in favor of Soc Sec and would pass on the message Merkley's office said they' pass on the message

— Ashland, 2012-12-19 08:36:11

Merkley supports leaving SS alone. Left msg on Wyden's voice mail.

— Pendleton, 2012-12-19 09:23:33

Senator Wyden's office said they would pass my concern to the senator.

— Hillsboro, 2012-12-19 09:25:03

Both offices said that their senators would continue to oppose any reduction.

— Ashland, 2012-12-19 09:33:03

I was told they would pass my message along (reception)

— Eugene, 2012-12-19 09:55:44

Made suggestions to office staff of both senators who said they would give them to senators.

— Ashland, 2012-12-19 10:11:59

Wyden would not commit Merkley will oppose

— La Grande, 2012-12-19 10:24:44

Senator Wyden's phone overloaded Senator Merkley's receptionist said he agrees with stopping any cuts and will give him the message

— Cheshire, 2012-12-19 11:40:40

Talked to staffers at both offices. Merkley issued statement yesterday opposing switch to chained CPI. Wyden is "opposed to SS benefit cuts." Bonamici is opposed to chained CPI.

— Portland, 2012-12-19 11:52:46

Merkley'soffice actually had a human that answered. Wyden's phone lines were busy due to "high volume", bu the wait was only a few minutes. I left a message with a person at each office and they said they would pass the message on to the Senators.

— Ashland, 2012-12-19 13:39:56

hold- heavy volume of calls... Asst. says bill too new to get official statement, but he's always supported keeping soc. sec. safe in past and will do so again.

— Lake Oswego, 2012-12-19 14:03:59

No Cuts to Social Security!!!!

— Florence, 2012-12-19 14:22:43

I spoke with an aide who indicated they would pass on my point of view. I also indicated that raising the bar to be included in paying more taxes to folks making one million dollars per year as proposed by Boehner is outrageous. These people make a million dollars A YEAR! And want to pass the pain onto Social Security and Medicare beneficiaries!

— Florence, 2012-12-19 15:06:33

Left msg urging Wyden to support raising the FICA deduction limit from $110K to $500K, which would solve the problem. Otherwise, LEAVE SS ALONE!!!

— Eugene, 2012-12-19 15:39:59

Office ans.She will pass the message!!!!

— Salem, 2012-12-19 15:40:18

Do you commit to oppose any benefit cuts to Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid? If not, WHY? I am a voter and request not only an answer but action on your part to keep the promise to not cut Social Security, Medicare and MediCade.

— Scholls, 2012-12-19 15:48:20

He has not made a public statement yet, but the person who answered the phone said she has no reason to believe that he will support the cuts based on his past record. She will pass along my opposition.

— Portland, 2012-12-19 15:56:29

it was past hours but I left a message that I didn't think the president's position to remove the cost of living increase for social security should be used as a future cost savings.

— , 2012-12-19 17:03:48

— Eugene, 2012-12-19 18:25:00

— Williams, 2012-12-20 00:43:13

Left a strong message

— Eugene, 2012-12-20 07:06:11

Will I ever be able to retire? With the governor after PERS, and Congress trying to reduce my social security, it looks like I may never be able to retire. What do you think?

— Tigard, 2012-12-20 07:06:37

I remember you being the final vote that got us no bargining power with the pharmaceutical companies. Don't make the same mistake twice for the sake of a bad deal. Yours truly, Bonnie DesAulnier Eugene, OR

— Eugene, 2012-12-20 10:09:51

spoke to staff person. 'the senator has not taken a position on this yet.' i told her that wyden's constituents would be furious if he betrayed them on this issue.

— Portland, 2012-12-20 11:25:55

Even Ronald Reagan understood that Social Security had nothing to do with the deficit, it has its own funding mechanism. Google Reagan & Soc. Security, see for yourself.

— Milwaukie, 2012-12-20 11:30:38

called the number above for wyden and let it ring for as long as it would until it disconnected itself - at 1:22 mins. never answered. unable to leave message. :(

— Rock Creek, 2012-12-20 11:44:04

I will NOT support or vote for someone who betrays their constituents by voting for SS cuts.

— Portland, 2012-12-20 11:59:38

I called, I made my comments, and she said she would "pass them along."

— Salem, 2012-12-20 12:00:34

— Portland, 2012-12-20 12:33:57

I got to speak with Senator Wyden's receptionist, and she said she'd pass it on.

— Rockwood, 2012-12-20 14:26:33

Merkley's on our side. No need to call.

— Alvadore, 2012-12-20 14:50:11

answering machine

— Ashland, 2012-12-21 06:57:01

The receptionist asked for my ZIP code and said she would give Senator Wyden my message. "Social security is not an entitlement! People pay in to it all their working lives. It is morally wrong to make cuts to social security and medicare."

— McMinnville, 2012-12-21 08:53:26

Both offices said they would pass the message along.

— Ashland, 2012-12-21 09:49:00

— Mt Angel, 2012-12-23 11:54:43

Merkley - we can count on Jeff, I'mm sure but I sent him an email Ron Wyden I lefta phne message.

— Eugene, 2012-12-23 16:11:58

I will donate to primary any Democrat that votes to cut Social Security ..We have Sacrificed enough...No more cuts to Social Security to pay for anything else..The Current COLA Calculation does not even come close to keeping up most can't pay for a place to live as it is and a chained CPI will only make this worse..

— Aurora, 2012-12-24 19:06:05

No one was in the office on Xmas eve but I left a message for both senators.

— Klamath Falls, 2012-12-24 20:31:13

— Waldport, 2012-12-31 07:33:05
