Their lines are busy.
The only people who need to make any form of "sacrifice" are the wealthiest. They have had it so good for so long it is breathtaking. A chained CPI social security will hit the seniors at their most vulnerable time...age 75 and above. What will we say to them? Go get a job?
Obama is doing a wholesale sell out of the middle class by doing Boehner's bidding. Damn Boehner is good for the rich. I wish we had someone half as good.

— Bronx, 2012-12-18 09:06:10
I cannot understand how cutting cuts to our country's seniors can be negotiated.
Seniors have worked their whole lives and can barely make ends meet with rising costs. The top 2% aren't having any trouble with their bills as prices go up.
— Wincoma, 2012-12-18 09:06:23
Schumer just has endless busy signal, but Gillibrand offers a ring, a wait, and then a nice person on the phone who assured me that he would tell her of my request. Also, he said she has been against any cuts in benefits all along.

Please use this note to signify my support for NO CUTS WHATSOEVER TO SOCIAL SECURITY, MEDICARE OR MEDICAID. I paid for my Social Security Benefits. Republicans squandered my money on needless wars, the S&L bailout, and oceans of programs to benefit the rich.

I got a recording that told me some one from Senator Schumer's offrice staff will answer but after ringing a few times I got a busy signal the 3 times I tried. I will keep trying his office until I get someone.
Senator Gillibrand's staff member told me that she was opposed to those cuts so we can depend on her to do her utmost to stop them trying to cut the SS benefits.

the call was simply 'accepted' by an operator
— New York, 2012-12-18 09:50:18
Maybe calling isn't the best way. How about a march on their offices? Also I'm tired of the "top 2 percent thing'. Taxes should go back to what they were under Clinton period. You know, a graduated income tax, like we used to have. Let's go over the fiscal cliff. I'll bet it will be painless. inotherwords, we should be pressing for no deal.

line is busy, Senator Gillibrand. anyway, keep up the support for SS, Medicare & medicaid. Plenty of other loopholes, in addition to military spending, corporate welfare, and Walmart codsdling. Look elsewhere for cash. America shouldn't take it out on the elderly and the weak.

I was assured that Senator Gillibrand is steadfast in her opposition to any benefit cuts. I responded that for any dem.to cave in on that would be the ultimate betrayal of the brave people who stood online for 8 hours to vote.

— Ithaca, 2012-12-18 10:16:18
I did not call and I want you to know why. When I got this message from moveon, I was discouraged that you are reinforcing the same attitudes I see in right-wing, tea party Republicans. No compromise, take no prisoners, the other side is totally wrong. Forget it! I am a middle of the road Democrat. I don't think Democrats have all the answers, just as I don't feel Republicans have all the answers. This country is built on compromise. We need to get back to a position in this country where compromise is OK - on every deal. Enough scare tactics.
— Webster, 2012-12-18 10:22:31

Gillibrand took my call.. by the way for New Yorkers the tax hike on millionaires is better than the 250,000 mark. So just do that say you compromised and NO cuts to social security or Medicare and by the way a cut is a cut no matter how you put it. I'm presently on hold for Schumer wonder why he is ALWAYS so hard to reach and Gillebrand is always SO available. Her staffer said basically they will stop the deal.I also gave her a thumbs up on reproductive rights. By the way wasn't she elected by the largest margin in the Senate when it comes to Dems?
— Brooklyn, 2012-12-18 10:55:01
Spoke with staffer who said Senator Gillibrand is against any cuts to these programs and is fighting to stop that. Asked to pass my messageto senator and that I am totally behind her.

After reaching Sen. Gillibrand's rep, I tried calling Sen. Schumer--waited a long time--finally the phone rang & then I got a busy signal. Very frustrating--I would like to reach him because he apparently is on the fence. — East Meadow, 2012-12-18 11:47:02
Both Wash offices were impossible to get thru to, even after long waits, the phones cut off, so I called on behalf of my wife and myself, the LI offices of each Senator....I told them that I'm tired of winning elections and it's the opposition who gets the concessions. I don't know the dollars behind a boost to 400,000, but that I can see is a bargaining chip, but cuts to Soc Security?....I honestly told each Senator, that if this deal compromises the precepts on why it won, the President and our success in Congress, then my friends and I have talked about becoming independents. It seems the GOP wins big if it wins, and wins a little, if it loses.......Their offices said they would convey my sentiments to the respective Senators....Thank you Barry and Barbara Nisman

Only got an aid who didn't know the senators' stand. That's what the usual answers are when one calls. An aid or intern or machine answers and check off on a chart the issue and write a short summary.

Could not get a response from Senator Schumer's office. Senator Gillibrand's office said she was definitely not in favor of cuts to Social Security
— Rochester, 2012-12-18 12:27:07
Shumer puts you on hold & then cuts you off. I can't believe this isn't being addressed. Is there something you can do? It makes me feel like he doesn't need our opinion. Could you send a message to President Obama that he's been playing nice for too long. How about kicking some a__.
— Yonkers, 2012-12-18 12:29:12
There is no way to reach Charles Schumer. First your

I've tried all day to get through to Schumer, and his line is jammed. People are standing in line to tell him to get serious about Social Security and to encourage him to keep fighting for gun control. I can't get through to Gillibrand either. Just like Republicans to try to sneak this through when everyone is focused on Newtown.

— Brooklyn, 2012-12-18 12:57:02
Sen Gillibrand was very cordial (I believe she actually answered her OWN phone!) And said she'd not cut SS. HOWEVER, Sen Schumer's availability to his constituents leaves Much tobe desired: after connecting me, I was put on hold for 5minutes, with the voice message telling me to hold and his assistant would be right with me repeatedly. That did NOT happen- eventually the musc cut off, to be replaced by a busy tone, which was then disconnected. It seems the Senator has hands too dirty to pick up the phone with...

i called before I got this. I don't understand how they calculate COLA. The maintenance on my apt goes up 6% a year. My medical premiums just went up 30%. Wasn't Obamacare supposed to prevent this? I need this insurance because Medicare Part D does not cover the medication I take. Maybe New Yorkers are expected to move to less expensive states when we become old or disabled.
— New York, 2012-12-18 13:11:09
Gillibrands aide said that she will do everything she can to insure that these programs are left alone but would not say she would stop it.. .I told him that it only takes one to stop this process with the filibuster... do as the republicans do...

There is a solution to all this: lift the cap on social security tax (or provide a "donut hole for income between $107,000-$250,000, after which the tax will kick in. This would ensure the vialbility of Social Security while increasing the tax on taxpayers earning more than $250,000, without technically increasing the tax rate" on such taxpayers (this would make it more palatable to republicans).

Sen. Schumer's office just thanked me for calling. Sen Gillibrand's office "assured me that Sen G. is strongly in support of Social Sec and Medicare.
— Wantagh, 2012-12-18 14:16:46
Sen Schumer's office said she would give him the message. Sen Gillibrand's office said she is aganist any cuts to Social Security and Medicare
— white plains, 2012-12-18 14:17:05
This is a reprehensible proposal that is even being considered by the president. Under no circumstances, hell or high water should any deliberations pertaining to social security be on the table of consideration for deal making. Weakness cannot be tolerated on behalf of the president nor the democrats. We reelected President Obama and will stand behind him in not backing down. Let's be realistic, the American public will not be deceived nor underserved by this power play in politics. Excuses begone and are not acceptable, Americans have made this decision and will not accept this nefarious ploy to undermine our senior lives. Enough, we will fight against any deals made against our wills.
— Freeport, 2012-12-18 14:17:47

— Craryville, 2012-12-18 14:24:09
I spoke to someone at Schumer's office. Was told that they do not have a public position. I was asked to leave a statement and did: no cuts to SS or benefits. Gillebrand's line rang, went to music and the a busy signal. I will try again.
— New York, 2012-12-18 14:25:23
I called Sen. Schumer and dialed multiple times as the line was busy, until I could get a connection. Sen. Schumer voice mail answer saying that someone from the staff should be with me shortly. After a few minutes wait, the phone started to ring and rang multiple times without answer and then turned into a busy signal. This happened twice.
— New York, 2012-12-18 14:25:37
message was left with Sen. Gillibrand's staff and also with Sen. Schumer staff. My name/zip code left with boff senators staff. Took several calls to make contact with Sen Schumer's ofc. One call was dropped after a 6: mins hold time.
— New York, 2012-12-18 14:26:19
Sent them both emails. Could not reach them by telephone.
— Brooklyn, 2012-12-18 14:27:30
When I called, I spoke to an Assistant and not to Senator Gillibrand or Senator Schmer. Prayerfully, they will be able to prevent any cuts. Doesn't the President realize that Seniors need their Social Security to help out with their needs for medical and other living expenses? We are not as fortunate as he is or any other government officals. They and their families are already set for life, they have nothing to worry about. But we have to worry how we are going to make it from day to day. It's a shame that they don't have any compassion for those that don't have made like they do.
— Westbury, 2012-12-18 14:28:48
Senator Schumer office said they would pass on my opinion. Senator Gillebrand office said she was against cuts to Medicare and SS.
— Fresh Meadows, 2012-12-18 14:29:13
Sen Gillibrand only took my zip code but said they didn't need my name. Sen Schumer was put on hold for a very long time. Finally hung up
— Rocky Point, 2012-12-18 14:29:42
Representative for Senator Gillibrand said she certainly opposes any cuts in Social Security. I asked what she is going to do about this the same was repeated and that they will pass my comments on to her. Never askee for identification.
— Valley Stream, 2012-12-18 14:30:29
Got through to both offices. Quite a wait for Schumer; hardly any at all for Gillebrand.
— New York, 2012-12-18 14:35:40
Schumer is notorious for being unavailable to his constituents. So I sent him a Facebook message asking him why no human ever answers phones at his offices. I also posted my opinion about the social security cuts on his FB page. I reached a human at Gillibrand's NYC office and I shared my sentiments. The aide, Rachel, said that I would have to phone DC if I wanted to know what the senator's official position was. Phones to both senators in DC are busy.
— Hartsdale, 2012-12-18 14:36:16
Let's make sure there are no cuts to social security, and let's make sure that the 1% START paying their share of taxes!!!

— Brooklyn, 2012-12-18 14:56:18
I was able to speak to people in both offices at about 5:45 (I was on hold for a couple of minutes for Schumer's office).
— Washington Bridge, 2012-12-18 14:57:55
I voiced my strong opinion that I have voted for both in the past and that this is a make or break issue for me and the middle class. If they support social security and medicare and medicaid, I will have their back. If they sell us out, they lose my vote. I got the sense that they are watching the negotiations closely but in the end they will stand with the middle class. I hope.
— Nyc, 2012-12-18 15:00:42
The employee of Gillibrand said she is against the cuts. The employee of Schumer said 'He has not issued a public stance on the matter yet."

Thank you
— Brooklin, 2012-12-18 15:20:31
Tried before 5 pm & got busy signals at both numbers. Tried again ~6 pm, with the following results:
Schumer: Got recordings assuring me someone would answer, then music for ~5 minutes, then a busy signal.
Gillibrand: Left a message opposing cuts to SSI benefits & also supporting removing the cap on the payroll tax that pays for them. It's ridiculous & unfair that Sen's. Gillibrand & Schumer, Pres. Obama, Mitt Romney, Warren Buffett, Michael Bloomberg, & people who are paid millions of dollars a year pay no more payroll tax than someone who makes $110,000 a year. Not just the same rate, the same total *amount*. But when the time comes for them to collect, their benefits are in proportion to their total salary. Unlike the rest of us, they take out much more than they ever paid in. Why isn't this a huge issue?
Is it too late to start a SignOn petition?
— New York, 2012-12-18 15:23:23

I did get to leave message at Senator Gillibrand.
Obama promised no cuts to Social Security. The 2 per cent to pay their fair share of taxes? I see thats up for debate also??? I thought that was what this election was about? Why doesnt Obama just lay it out to Boehner what the people re-elected him for!!No cuts to medicare ,keep social security as it is, anyone making over $250,000 and up will have their taxes increased some, and the top 2 percent will finally pay their fair share. upstate NY

Lines to both offices were busy each time I called until at little after 9:00 when I the answering machine picked up at Senator Gillibrand's office. I left a message and sent e-mails to both senators. This is what I said on Senator Gillibrand's tape and sent by e-mail.
Senate Democrats have been vocal opponents of cuts to Social Security benefits. I would like to know I can count on you to do everything in your power to stop a "Fiscal Cliff" deal if it includes the reported cuts to Social Security benefits." The President has the nation's support on this matter. It is what he campaigned on and won on. The voters have the President's back so he need not capitulate to bullying Republican tactics that are power moves and make no fiscal sense at all.
— Huntington, 2012-12-18 18:09:57

Called Senator Gillibrand's office at 10:40 PM, Tuesday, December 18, 2012. Left a recorded message, saying that the Social Security funds that WE PAID IN, DURING OUR WORKING YEARS, should NOT be used to avoid the "financial cliff", NOR to pay for the UNFUNDED two wars AND the unfinanced extension of medical benefits. FURTHERMORE, Social Security funds should NOT be used to pay for tax breaks for the filthy rich. NO ANSWER AT SENATOR SCHUMER'S TELEPHONE NUMBER.

Both numbers were busy!! I will try again tomorrow. I am so angry. President Obama said "Social "Security" is off the table". Why is he now allowing Republicans to win again? Placing the burden on seniors! Obama better keep his promise! The country expects it of him! Stop Republicans from assaulting the most needy. Sick of it!

Call the district ofc. nearest you. DC is $$ down the hole, while you hopelessly wait on hold. Both here in Albany said they would transmit calls to DC end of day, who knows? Until we get the $$ out of elections, they'll pander to the big donors. Some 700+ military installations around the globe, Obama wiping no tears after his murderous drone war, and we can't afford a social safety net and health care??

Does no one in Congress or Senate have any feelings about us I am proud to be a AMERICAN and for what we stand for. But up on the hill as they sit almighty and play with our lifes we sit and wait for the worst to happen because they don't need us anymore so lets weed them out, so lets take from the Middleclass and line our pockets and do good somewhere else so we look good, leave us alone and let us live the rest of our years with some peace of mind!!!!
— , 2012-12-19 02:53:36
leave the small amounts people receive for social security alone. they worked many years for the little they received you politicians receive a hefty amount and have no need to worry. leave the little guy alone and go after the ones that don't contribute enough. LEAVE US ALONE. Mrs. VanCheri
— Angola, 2012-12-19 03:28:12
I tried Sen; Schumer one last time... Busy, Busy, Busy...These "Representatives of New York State " are planning to sell us out folks. "The fix is in" wake up! The fact is that there is no solution to the mess we have been put in and the ones who are the most vulnerable will pay the price because we are the ones who can cause the least retributional damage to them. It boils back down to "might makes right" and "survival of the fittest" once again! I'd like to see a national referendum where elected, appointed and nominated officials of Washington have their salaries and benefits determined every 4 years by the voting population at large not by Congress. ...but it'll never happen!

My name is Pmael Banner & I have been speaking to many POLITICIANS over the years even sending a LETTER to THE White House ! We DO NOT NEED CUTS we need to police the system ! I could NOT get an answer to the amount of calls they are recieving Im sure ! If you can not contact them via Washington then call there local offices or write ! However calling them WILL NOT accomplish much as THEY ARE & ALEAYS stand by the people ! We need to contact REPUBLICANS & DEMACRATS that will OK IT ! Im also gravly concerned that cuts will also be made to liberal arts programs as Im currently working on a book dealing w/ Elder abuse & neglect ,Drug addiction (often called disability ,actually enabling)12+ yrs cocaine & crack free ! No meetings, rehab or relapse , & ABUSE OF THE SYSTEM ! I have witnessed far to much ! I BELIEVE that this was to bring awareness to the ISSUES PLUGING OUR Society & the future of our NATION ! We need CAPS on what Medical insurance & Prescribtion Drug companies can charge as MANY SENIORS & DISABLED can not afford there LIFE SUSTAINING MEDS ! Write ,Phone or VISIT THOSE IN CONGRESS Wanting or BEING SWAYED to make these cuts! WRITE, E-MAIL & PHONE JOHN BOENHR ! All American Woman Pam (Like the cooking spray) BANNER (like OUR NATIONS FLAG) LOL We could all use a giggle now & again during such stressful times ! GOD BLESS EVERYONE FOR WHAT YOUR ALL STRIVING TO ACCOMPLISH ! Im doing my best even prompting a local NYC Senator to hold a seminar on Elder Abuse in my former home town of 36 yrs Staten Island ! GOD BLESS AMERICA Disabled NOT UNABLE !

Unable to connect with Schumer's office. Ten minute hold with music, then ringing for another two, then busy signal. Will try Albany office: 519-431-4070. Altamont, NY
— Altamont, 2012-12-19 07:03:29
Could not reach Sen Schumer office, the phone is constantly busy. This shows how much care sen schumer for New Yorkers. At least Gilibrang took my call. Iam telling you , my next move will be registering to the independent party , a new political party to represent us , poor people.

— New York, 2012-12-19 07:13:41
I easily reached sen. Gillibrand's office and her aide said sen. Gillibrand is going to defend Social Security. After much trying I finally reached sen. Schumer's office and his aide said he would pass my message of saving social security on to the senator.
— New York, 2012-12-19 07:14:37
I called local offices in Albany. Both staff members said Thank You we'll let the Senator know your views.
— Schenectady, 2012-12-19 07:16:32
Was told Senator Gillibrand is opposed to cuts in Social Security and Medicare.
— Hartsdale, 2012-12-19 07:17:17
There is no question about Sen. Gillibrand's support for Social Security. Schumer's line is continuously busy, but I don't think we have a problem there either.
— New York, 2012-12-19 07:19:07
Spoke to her office
— new york, 2012-12-19 07:21:32
Since Sen Schumer's DC office is unreachable, I spoke with someone in his NYC office. That person was unable to tell me anything about the Senator's stance on the cuts. I then sent an email through his website. I left a message on Sen. Gillibrand's machine in DC and, for good measure, called and spoke with someone in Rep. Rangel's office. No responses from anyone, but the message was sent.
— New York, 2012-12-19 07:26:13
Could not get thru to Senator Schumer's office
— Forest Hills, 2012-12-19 07:27:19

Spoke to an aide who said that my comments on social security, Medicare and the $250,000 minimum income would be given to senator gillibrand.
— Old Bethpage, 2012-12-19 07:40:19
Got through to Gillibrand aide. She assured me that Gillibrand opposes cuts to SS and Medicare. Schumer got only busies so far.
— Topeka, 2012-12-19 07:47:05

— Brooklyn, 2012-12-19 07:49:30
Senator Schumer is much harder to reach. I will try again, but so far have been disconnected
Once and got a busy signal 3 times. Sen Gillibrand's rep said she was clearly for no cuts
To Social Security.
— New York, 2012-12-19 07:55:09

— Brooklyn,, 2012-12-19 07:55:42
I left a message on presidents comment line and Durbin and Reid for no cuts to social security or medicarebeneficieries
— Cedarhurst, 2012-12-19 08:01:43
When will they focus on bringing out exactly where the money went.
When will they focus on the exorbantly outrageous salaries of the health care industry and pharmeutical industry that are causing the high cost of medicare, medicaid and regular insurance. Under no circumstance should anyone that did not create, invent or etc a product be paid that much, while suppressing people's care and pushing up the premiums for care that includes co-pays and deductibles and additional payments for (what) out of network doctors.
Schumer's line was busy.
— New York, 2012-12-19 08:02:40
Got through to both, Schummer has no official position, hard to believe, Gillibrand absolutely will fight against any cuts at all.
— Tonawanda, 2012-12-19 08:03:45
Couldn't get thru to Schumer. Waited 10 min, then busy signal, at 11 minutes call ended.

Could not get through to Schumer's office - tried repeatedly.
Spoke to person in Gillibrand's office, they said she opposes any changes to SS, Medicare, medicaid and took my name only.
— Sag Harbor, 2012-12-19 08:20:39
A staffer prommised to pass my concerns ( I read them the script) on to the senator. She thanked me and we said goodbye Senator Gillibrand's line was busy ( I called three times) so I will try later in the day.
— Bronx, 2012-12-19 08:21:54
I informed staff member that we are aware a change in the CPI rate results in a decrease in benefits. I was assured by staff member that Sen. Gillibrand will oppose any cuts to Social Security or Medicare and will relay my concerns.
— Jamaica, 2012-12-19 08:23:30
Kirsten Gillibrand's staff specifically told me she was against any deal on SS and Medicare.
Chuck Schumer's staff said nothing, just took my information. I also had to call three times to get past 10 minutes of hold time and then a busy signal in Senator Schumer's office.
— Stony Point, 2012-12-19 08:27:19
Schumer's line was busy every time I called.
— Brooklyn, 2012-12-19 08:28:19
Sen. Schumer's office has a busy signal all the time and he is unreachable. Very disappointed in him!
— Yonkers, 2012-12-19 08:33:47
Gillibrands office said that she has "come out strong against any cuts to social security, medicare, and medicaid." I finally got through at Schumer's Binghamton office and the staffer said that it was too early to say how he would vote on the deal. I asked him how it could be too early too come out in support of no cuts to social security and he just repeated that it was too early to say. This is why I held my nose when I voted for Obama. The grand capitulator. I will not vote for any one who cuts social security and I will give money to any candidate that challenges those who would cut social security.
— Bronx, 2012-12-19 08:35:24
I reminded Gillibrand's staffer that the senator had previously pledged to oppose any cuts and she, the staffer, said that yes, Senator Gillibrand was opposed to any cuts and took my name. Schumer's staffer said she would pass along my message to the senator and took my zip code.
— New York, 2012-12-19 08:35:49

Couldn't reach Schumer's office, but left a message at Gillibrand's.
— Brooklyn, 2012-12-19 09:37:04
Had a lot of trouble getting through to Schumer and left firm message. Got to Gillibrand's office more easily, thanked her for her firm stance and asked that she commit to doing everything she can to stop such a deal.
— Brooklyn, 2012-12-19 09:45:22
Gillibrand's office said they'd pass on my message -- didn't ask for my name or zip. Schumer's line played a hell of lot of music but nobody ever picked up.
— New York, 2012-12-19 09:57:08
Unable to reach either Senator on phone. Constant hold or busy.
— RIDGE, 2012-12-19 10:10:56
Gillibrand-able to speak to aid only. He danced around a bit and would only say that she is against any SS cuts. Schumer-I couldn't get anyone to answer his phone. I was placed in que, the phone finally rung after 5 min. or so and then it hung up. I have been trying for 2 days now.
— Lockport, 2012-12-19 10:13:11
Schumer's line was busy
— Port Chester, 2012-12-19 10:24:06
Left messages with staff. Had to call Schumer twice because call went to busy . My message to both was that SS is not a the federal budget issue and needs to be off the table. Also, commented that was just on TV. He's now offering income exemptions of $400K. He looks weak when he dose'nt need to. Senator's should show more resolve on issues we've fought so hard on. Said I'd rather go off the "cliff" than make foolish compromises.
— Bridgeport, 2012-12-19 10:38:57
KG aide assured me she's strongly against the reported cuts. Could not get through to Schumer at neither dc nor albany offices. Will continue to call.

Spoke to someone in Gillibrands' office and I was told she would try to stop the deal. I held for Schumer for a few minutes and got cut off. I'll try again later.
— Greenport, 2012-12-19 11:01:38
I mentioned that Obama and other Democrats won because of people like me. We were part of a grass roots movement who sent in small donations. In our case, we sent in a number of them which was more than we could comfortably afford. If we feel betrayed by the Democrats, that money will not be coming in future elections. Since this is a grass roots movement, I cannot speak for everyone. But I would imagine that the majority of small donors feel the way I do. If we are not protected from these Republicans, then there is no sense in donating to the Democrats. In the next election, the Democrats may be facing the Republicans and the Koch brothers without our help.
— New York, 2012-12-19 11:12:00
gildebrand phones did not answer
schumer - I spoke wanted to tell him to do everything in their
— NY, 2012-12-19 11:18:03
I emailed both Senators directly and I hope they will both take action and oppose cuts to Social Security. This is the right thing to do and for once I'm hoping that these Senators do the right thing, not just for myself but all those who are dependant on Social Security to survive, not to thrive ..... basically just to survive.
— North Syracuse, 2012-12-19 11:22:23
Neither senators office gave any guarantee - they just recorded my position on the issue.
— Monroe, 2012-12-19 11:30:38
no word from the president this am whether corporation, such as oil companies, will have their taxes raised and whether taxes above $250,000 will be progressive with millionaires and billionaires having to pay 40 to 50%. We have to break the power that so much money brings and put it back into running the country. For instance, with more money, we could have an even better health care reform.
— new york, 2012-12-19 11:31:49
Schumer's phone is busy, busy, busy!
— Ridge, 2012-12-19 11:37:57

— Plainview, 2012-12-19 11:42:31
Sen Schumer has a Rochester NY #: 585-263-5866. Both offices took my message willingly..agreed it has to be stopped....can tell they are EXtremely busy on phones. I just got a $17/mo cola raise BUT will pay $5 more for Medicare....leaves me w/$8....Time Warner is charging me another $4/mo for taxes on my computer and TV....my taxes on home, etc., etc., will go up....we CANNOT ALLOW this to happen.
— Painted Post, 2012-12-19 11:44:41

Senator Schumer: There is no position on that as of now (2:53PM 12/19/12), but took my zip code and will pass on my strong message that he must fight for no cuts to Social Security benefits.

did not get to leave a message with schumer (of course!). Gillibrand STRONGLY opposes any cuts to Social Security!
— schdy, 2012-12-19 13:26:03
Schumer's DC office is impossible to reach. I have repeatedly called yesterday and today and the lines are constantly busy. Senator Gillibrand's office answered right away today and assured me she is opposed to all cuts to SS, Medicare and Medicaid and that she does consider the recalculation to the CPI for Social Security as a cut. I asked whether she had officially taken a stand against this aspect of Obama's proposal and her office was not able to say yes.
— Nyc, 2012-12-19 13:53:30
staff said it was on their agendas
— Rochester, 2012-12-19 14:08:01
Called their local offices, as their Washington lines were completely tied up (hopefully a good sign although likely it was the gun nuts). Their local offices are listed on their websites, so please don't let a busy signal stop you. Told them both that the cust are unacceptable and that I live in their state and I vote and will be watching what they do.
— Rochester, 2012-12-19 14:16:13
SCHUMER HAS POSITION ON THE CUTS
GILLIBRAND IS OPPOSED TO ANY CUTS IN SOCIAL SECURITY AND MEDICARE INC CPI CHANGES.
— Brooklyn, 2012-12-19 14:17:11
I was never able to get through to Schumer's office. Nice music on hold though.
— New York, 2012-12-19 14:27:05
Did not talk to either senator, but talked with aide who answered phone and told him that we feel betrayed by Obama's offer to reduce SS COL...in fact, the Obama proposal is WORSE than Paul Ryan and Romney plans because they were for future seniors not current seniors. Obama's proposal will affect current seniors too. Obama ran on $250,000 and below to save Bush tax cuts....now he cowers to Repubs for $400,000 and proses WE the most vulnerable make up the decifict. Get Obama out of negoiating, he can't do it, the fiscal cliff looks better than Obamas proposal!!Nancy Peloski would never CAVE to Republicans.
— OSWEGO, 2012-12-19 14:53:49
I left a message on Gillibrand's phon.

— Ellicottville, 2012-12-20 07:58:28

Senator Schumer's voice telephone line was busy. So I decided to send fax. I also sent emails via Progressive Dem. of America web site.
— Staten Island, 2012-12-20 09:34:53
I waited for 15 minutes and finally spoke to side who said Shumer hasn't taken a position on SS cuts. I gave her an earful about broken promises and sticking it to those on fixed incomes and that it was time for him to speak up and push Pelosi to do the right thing.
— Nyc, 2012-12-20 10:30:29
Schumer put me on hold after a recorded message.
Gilibrand's aide said she is opposed to any cut in social security including the prposed adjustment to the cost of living index.
— Brppklyn, 2012-12-20 10:32:14
I reached the senator's office, spoke with her staff. He stated that she was against any cuts in SS benefits, and would not support any change in the COLA (Chained CPI), because that would amount to a cut in social security benefits. Stopped short of any comments on "everything in their power."
— Rome, 2012-12-20 10:41:59
Senator Schumer had a musical recording going which I listen to for 10 min waiting for a staffer to pick up. I then hung up and called Senator Gillibrand's office, spoke to staffer Thomas who assured me that she is against any cuts to SS. Will try Schumer's office later today

Both are supportive of social security and will do all in their power to resist these changes.
Long hold for Sen. Schumer, but eventually reached both through staff members.
— Hamburg, 2012-12-20 12:52:40
Sen Gillibrand's staff member listened and replied that she's already on record as opposing cuts to Medicare and Medicaid. He added she would still learn that I'd called. At Charles Schumer's his staff member Marisa said he did not yet have a public position on this but that she would relay my message re importance of preserving Social Security , Medicare, and Medicaid benefits. I receive the first two and though I work 36 hours a week I absolutely need this support to make ends meet. Natalie Lardner New York NY 10023

We do not share the information you’ve given us with unaffiliated groups without your explicit permission.
For petitions and surveys you've signed or completed, we treat your name, city, state, and comments as public information - for example, we may provide compilations of petitions, with your comments, to the President and legislators, other targets, or to the press. We will not make your street address publicly available, but we may transmit it to members of Congress and to the President as part of a petition. This is a standard industry practice in such situations. In no such case will we disclose your email address or phone number without your permission. We may also make your comments, along with your first name, city, and state available to the press and public online.
Under circumstances where we determine that members may be misusing our systems for malicious purposes (for example, using the numbers we provide to make harassing phone calls), such activities may be reported to law enforcement agencies. In such cases, MoveOn may release personally identifiable information, including name and address, to those agencies.
In certain cases, we enable you to send individual e-mails to the President, legislators, and other targets as well as Letters-to-the-Editor to various news publications, through our website. These messages are sent in your name, with your e-mail address as the return address and your full name and contact information is provided as part of the submission. These messages will only be sent out under your name as you approve them on an individual basis using our email tool. You are solely responsible for the specific message(s) you send using our email tool.
MoveOn will send you updates on this and other important campaigns by email. If at any time you would like to unsubscribe from our email list, you may do so by completing this form.

Schumer put on hold 5 minutes, then phone rang 3 minutes until it went to busy signal!!! Gilibrand at least took my name and zip code and said would tell my senator my view.
