Both Wash offices were impossible to get thru to, even after long waits, the phones cut off, so I called on behalf of my wife and myself, the LI offices of each Senator....I told them that I'm tired of winning elections and it's the opposition who gets the concessions. I don't know the dollars behind a boost to 400,000, but that I can see is a bargaining chip, but cuts to Soc Security?....I honestly told each Senator, that if this deal compromises the precepts on why it won, the President and our success in Congress, then my friends and I have talked about becoming independents. Not just the same rate, the same total *amount*. But when the time comes for them to collect, their benefits are in proportion to their total salary. I mentioned that Obama and other Democrats won because of people like me. We were part of a grass roots movement who sent in small donations. In our case, we sent in a number of them which was more than we could comfortably afford. If we feel betrayed by the Democrats, that money will not be coming in future elections. Since this is a grass roots movement, I cannot speak for everyone. But I would imagine that the majority of small donors feel the way I do. If we are not protected from these Republicans, then there is no sense in donating to the Democrats. In the next election, the Democrats may be facing the Republicans and the Koch brothers without our help.
