What Other MoveOn Members Are Hearing

Thanks for calling

— Enfield, 2012-12-18 07:37:13

They thanked me for the call, and comments.

— West Lebanon, 2012-12-18 07:44:02

The person who answered at the Senator's office was very courteous and seemed genuinely pleased that I had called to voice an opinion.

— Hanover, 2012-12-18 07:54:45

left message and added that she vote to expetnt the payroll tax break permanently

— Portsmouth, 2012-12-18 07:59:41

I also called and left a message for Kelly Ayotte- probably like yelling across the grand canyon- but left it anyway. Nick, Sen Shaheen's staffer said he would pass my message on. He said Sen Shaheen is interested in encouraging drug companies to reduce their sale prices (like in England and other countries) and to reduce fraud in medicare/medicaid. Both worthy endeavors but NOT to be bartered against cutting benefits.

— walpole, 2012-12-18 08:15:30

Will be sure to pass this message along.

— Fremont, 2012-12-18 08:34:55

spoke to Hank, who reported that he was unsure of the Senator's position on the issue at the moment

— New Hampton, 2012-12-18 08:45:05

The person who answered the phone stated he would pass the message on to Senator Shaheen. Due to the recent nature of the info, (this AM), he does not know what the Senator opinion is on this new proposal.

— West Lebanon, 2012-12-18 08:56:26

the person said they would pass along my message to the govenor

— Hollis, 2012-12-18 09:01:27

Spoke with a very courteous young woman. She told me that Senator Shaheen wants to "protect" Social Security for future generations while addressing our current fiscal issues. I stressed that the USA got into our fiscal troubles by corporate (& political) fraud, not by overspending on the poor and middle class

— Warner, 2012-12-18 09:12:10

I left long and vehement message.

— Hudson, 2012-12-18 09:13:38

I can't baere the thought that any cuts of Soc. Sec. benefits would affect the ealderlies' ability to afford their necessary medication.

— Kensington, 2012-12-18 09:20:27

Wavering. Not sure if they shouldn't cut some from these programs!!

— Claremont, 2012-12-18 09:21:17

left message with staff person to relay to the senator

— GRANTHAM, 2012-12-18 09:32:20

Staff took my message that I urge her to stand against the cuts. I said this was another Republican initiative to support the rich over the middle class.

— Hollis, 2012-12-18 09:36:14

Associate stated that she would pass it on to Senator Shaheen.

— Langdon, 2012-12-18 09:43:12

Very canned reply that did not say that social security cuts are off the table. Person I spoke to did not have a response prepared for recent events.

— Stratham, 2012-12-18 09:54:35

Lrft detailed message with an assistant who seemed credible and nice but had no response the would predict the senators action.

— Newton, 2012-12-18 09:59:38

staffer will pass on my message that I support increased taxes on the wealthy and NO cuts to SS, Medicare or Medicaid. The money must come from the wealthy now and not the middle class.

— Wilmot, 2012-12-18 10:06:28

just made call

— nottingham, 2012-12-18 10:07:00

thanked me for taking the time and will pass the message along

— Claiborne, 2012-12-18 10:07:34

Said Operator said, she'd report my call Jeanne Shaheen asking that she not make any cuts to Social Security. She also took my name and the town where I live. Marie Macozek, Laconia, NH

— Laconia, 2012-12-18 10:13:37

— effingham, 2012-12-18 10:29:19

I just told them that these cuts were going to hurt the elderly poor and they said thank you and that they would pass it along.

— Westmoreland, 2012-12-18 10:31:53

Left message: We don't need cuts...need COLA increases in Soc Sec.

— Epsom, 2012-12-18 10:33:53

She is a strong supporter of Social Security and Medicare but the person I talked to said he would not want to speculate on a proposal that wasn't final. I asked whether she would consider any deal that would cut Social SEcurity. He said he wouldn't want to speculate. He said she would carefully consider any measure put before them and weigh the pros and cons. I said I didn't think it was a good idea to cut Social Security benefits in any way, etc. He said they had heard from a lot of people today and he would pass along my comments. He reiterated that she is a strong supporter of Medicare and Social Security. He was very courteous and took my name and town.

— Bethlehem, 2012-12-18 10:39:19

with Kate who said she would tell the Senator.

— Lancaster, 2012-12-18 10:52:44

they assurred me that Senator Shaheen wants to keep Soc. Security INTACT as is, and would likely continue to vote to support that.

— Wolfeboro, 2012-12-18 10:56:35

The person who answered will forward my message.

— West Lebanon, 2012-12-18 10:58:33

Spoke to her aide who stated she doesn't believe SS is a driver of the deficit but she doesn't know for sure if she'll vote against a bill that includes cuts.

— Westmoreland, 2012-12-18 11:02:05

Sen. Shaheen believes that Soc Sec is not a driver in the deficit and will work to protect it.

— Swanzey, 2012-12-18 11:10:48

An aide said she would transmit my message to Senator Shaheen, and thanked me for calling. I made several arguments: 1. I paid heftily for this retirement benefit over 45 years of employment, and now I demand what I already paid for. It is not a gift from the government to a lazy, unproductive leech. 2. When I started paying into the fund, it was universally understood that one could live on social security retirement benefits. The government has already reneged on this promise. Further cuts would be a theft upon a theft. 3. Finding a new formula to calculate increases is an obfuscatory way of further cuts, but it would be no more than yet another theft upon a theft. Even the current formula enormously underestimates the cost of living increases for people who live in the real world and pay for groceries, home heat, medical bill, gas, etc. 4. The country is divided on whether Washington can be trusted to run programs like medicare, environmental management, energy development, etc. Some would take away virtually all government powers because of governmental incompetence and corruption; others would welcome increased government involvement as a regulator and even a supplier of certain services. This issue - Social Security Retirement benefits - is the litmus test that the world is watching to see if the American Government's competence and intentions are trustworthy.

— West Lebanon, 2012-12-18 11:15:50

They would tell her we spoke?

— Spofford, 2012-12-18 11:19:32

They thanked me for calling and the receptionist stated that she would tell the Senator about my message.

— AMherst, 2012-12-18 11:28:25

The office person simply said she would report my of opposition to Social Security cuts.

— Shelburne, 2012-12-18 11:31:25

Please do not let the middle class bear the brunt of this negotiation or the elderly in their SS benefits. Please hold strong to tax the wealthiest top 2% at substantially higher rate or let us Go Over the Cliff for a reality check. Sincerely, Michele Chalice

— keene, 2012-12-18 12:01:03

the aide will let the senator know about my opinion.

— Danville, 2012-12-18 12:04:06

I informed the person who answered that I felt S.S.was not an entitlement, that I had paid for it out of my paycheck for more than 40 years and was assured that my message would be passed along to her.

— Belmont, 2012-12-18 12:12:57

They said, "We will certainly let Sen. Shaheen know of your feelings."

— Tilton, 2012-12-18 12:20:07

Left message to please vote against.

— Panama City FL, 2012-12-18 12:26:14

said they would pass on the message

— Etna, 2012-12-18 12:34:32

I spoke with a woman who spoke in generalities and wouldn't specifically tell me that the senator would oppose the chained cpi. Are there really any true progressives in Washington these days?

— Candia, 2012-12-18 12:55:53

LEAVE Social Security ALONE! Let us go off the fiscal cliff. We need to get rid of the Bush' Tax cuts.

— Strafford, 2012-12-18 12:57:48

receptionist stated she would pass along the emphatic message to the Senator.

— Lyme, 2012-12-18 13:10:42

the person who answered the phone said the Senator was committed to not cutting social security

— Center Tuftonboro, 2012-12-18 13:12:00

Senator: I cannot say it clearer; I am disabled and rely soley on Social Security Disability for my living costs, I receive nothing else from other programs. I can barely, minimally live on this income. I am, still grateful for the security. I cannot possibly bear a cut in this income. I will be hobbled in any one of many ways. Tell the President. Do not allow this to be a Republican bargaining chip. I paid for this program, and prayed I would never need it. Please help..

— Portsmouth, 2012-12-18 13:33:04

Staff thanked me and will pass on my sentiments to the Senator. I made it clear that I was a very hardworking Democrat who voted for the Senator and thought the deficit can be addressed over time without sacrificing social security or the social safety net now in place.

— sugar hill, 2012-12-18 13:38:16

Staffer said she would pass on the message: no deal if it includes cuts to social security , including one through a chained CPI. She should also stand firm on having the cutoff for tax increases be no more than $250,000. Staffer asked to repeat where I lived ( Keene). She seemed interested in hearing from people from NH on this issue.

— Keene, 2012-12-18 13:42:57

spoke with an assistant who would only say that she would "let the senator know that we spoke today" and that she would "pass on" my message -

— North Haverhill, 2012-12-18 13:46:24

Message will be passed along.

— goshen, 2012-12-18 13:47:57

Staffer said he would pass the message on.

— Etna, 2012-12-18 13:58:43

Talked to an office staff woman and asked her to urge Senator Sheehan to be very vocal about stopping any deal of cuts to SS benefits and that the tax cuts for the top 2% need to go away.

— Portsmouth, 2012-12-18 13:59:53

Young woman who answered the phone seemed to be reading a response from Sen. Shaheen that covered a lot of issues. I didn't have the feeling that the Senator would vote against the whole deal if Soc. Sec. benefits are cut. Her position sounded a bit conciliatory. The staffer said she would pass my comments on to the Senator.

— Barnet, 2012-12-18 14:01:53

The person who answered said that senator shaheen felt that SS is not a driving force of the deficit. She will protect ss!

— Berlin, 2012-12-18 14:04:38

She is a strong supporter of Social Security and Medicare.

— Amherst, 2012-12-18 14:05:46

Answering machine -- left a fervent message!

— Hampden, 2012-12-18 15:07:03

Left a message on their machine, because it was after hours.

— Temple, 2012-12-18 15:12:05

I left a fairly long message for her to make sure that I would make the call. I also mentioned that the income level for tax increases should be the promised $250,000 not $400,000. Thanks for informing me about all this.

— Nashua, 2012-12-18 16:56:18

The office is closed. I left a message asking Sen Shaheen to fight against any cuts to Soc Security including tying thr cost of living increase to chained CPI because the chained CPI wil actually slow increases for retirees, causing less in benfits.

— Derry, 2012-12-18 17:52:33

Was told Senator Shaheen is not in favor of reducing SS benefits; does want to look at reducing Medicaid fraud and abuses (I agree). Has voted for repealing big oil subsidies. Asked that she consider reduction of military contract spending as another measure to reduce spending in Washington. Was told my comments would be passed on to the Senator.

— Hampton, 2012-12-19 05:52:21

Will let Senator Shaheen know of my concerns. Welcomed message, but nothing definitive on whether Senator Shaheen will stand firm on this.

— center barnstead, 2012-12-19 06:18:59

Spoke with Kate, she said she would relay the message to Senator Shaheen

— Marlow, 2012-12-19 07:07:58

Just thanks for calling will pass my comments on.

— Milford, 2012-12-19 07:12:27

Did not get to talk to the Senator. Spoke to her staff. She said she would let the Senator know that I am adamantly against changes to Social Security.

— Litchfield, 2012-12-19 07:33:27

Spoke with office staff person who was very positive re: my comments.

— milton, 2012-12-19 10:42:31

As usual Sen Shaheen's office was very courteous and receptive. However, they said that they would give her "Our Opinion. This is more than an opinion, it is a promise that Pres Obama got re-elected on. Anne and Kenneth Fields Peterborough, NH.

— Sharon, 2012-12-19 12:03:46

Reached the office and talked with a staff person. He said he would pass my remarks along. He is not sure of the senator's response; "things are moving very rapidly."

— Merrimack, 2012-12-19 13:02:02

I left a message for Senator Shaheen to please vote against any cuts to social security re the financial cliff bargaining package.

— Richmond, 2012-12-20 08:06:39

The woman that answered said that the Senator did not want to have any changes to SS be part of the fiscal cliff discussions. She believes that some changes to Medicare and Medicaid in the areas of cutting wasteful spending and negotiating with pharma companies would be in the best interest of the middle class.

— Hudson, 2012-12-20 09:29:22

Not in favor of having SS as part of deal

— Plymouth, 2012-12-20 10:54:25

Whoever answered the phone stated he would pass on the message. I also asked him to remind her that AFT-NH strongly supported her because she promised not to attack the middle class - I am the president of the Rochester Federation of Teachers, an AFT local.....

— Milton, 2012-12-20 12:02:40

courteous aide took my call and listened and would like to call kelly ayotte as well but I know that i would not be very courteous to her aide as I beleive she poorly represents the great state I live in. Proud to call NH my home, not so proud that she is one of our senators. I feel she disgraces us and does our state a great disservice by being in Washington and she does not represent the people I beleive are the heart and soul of our state.

— Rochester, 2012-12-20 13:54:31

The staff person said they would pass my comments on to Senator Shaheen.

— Weirs Beach, 2012-12-20 15:40:48

Thanked me for the call I aso called Swnat0re Ayotte and Congressman Guinta.....same response.

— Spencerport, 2012-12-21 10:49:42

Please start a new petition. The republicans are gearing up for targeting cuts to the big three as part of the deficit negotiations.

— Rye, 2013-01-07 08:25:45
