— Fulton, 2012-12-18 07:55:53

Non-commital response from a staffer. I said there was no point in penalizing the middle class until the millionaires were paying at least as much as they did under Clinton--and preferably what they paid under that old radical Dwight Eisenhower.

— Saint Charles, 2012-12-18 07:56:50

Office asssistant stated that Sen McCaskill will keep SS issues off the negogiation table.

— Troy, 2012-12-18 07:59:42

— Kansas City, 2012-12-18 08:03:54

Her aid said she believes this should not be included in the fiscal cliff deal. This is a seperate issue and should be dealt with according. I expressed my extreme opposition to any cuts to Social Security!

— Shell Knob, 2012-12-18 09:00:44

Please keep Social Securits as it is. How will these people live..? In this USA it's better to be broke than try to work.....That is not my intent. We both work 60 hours a weeek to put a boy threw UMKC.... MEANS TESTING........

— Independence, 2012-12-18 09:02:41

no cuts to SS and $400,000.00 isn't acceptable either

— St. Louis, 2012-12-18 09:06:13

I e-mailed this too: Ms. McCaskill: I can accept increasing the income level for higher taxes on the rich -- although rich pretty much sums it up and I'm not that. I'm someone who's worked for over 40 years and will depend on Social Security & Medicare for my ONLY retirement. If the US would have bailed out my company when it went bankrupt (as was done by the government for the auto, banking and other industries) I'd have more retirement. I'd have 1000s of shares of company stock! But "We, the people" are allowed to go under --- no bailout for us. WorldCom, Hostess, Readers Digest, Olin Mills and too many others to name. My taxes paid the bailout for those rich Americans. Now they want to bleed me even more. We know our accounts have accrued compound interest all these years. We know anyone who's contributed and died prior to retirement age has had their funds "absorbed." We know that any of our earnings not distributed to us before our death in retirement are "absorbed." We know our "retirement" savings are not distributed to our children when we die -- like other retirement plans. It should be their inheritance! Enough is enough.

— Troy, 2012-12-18 09:08:55

They said "Thank you", but made no other comment.

— University City, 2012-12-18 09:12:50

— st.louis, 2012-12-18 09:20:22

Mo. mule...known to be cuts at all! the repukes got us into this mess...the repukes can cave!

— mtn view, 2012-12-18 09:21:17

Claire thinks that Social Security cuts should not be part of the "fiscal cliffs' discussion.

— St. Louis, 2012-12-18 09:23:12

I left a voice mail.

— Warrensburg, 2012-12-18 09:23:32

Why is this even being discussed. Why do you senators keep on putting this on the table, your seniors cannot withstand the raise in age nor the cuts being proposed, yet the millionaires and billionaires of this country have a cap on their SS deductions. Raise that cap and then keep SS off the table forever and STOP taking from that account. We have paid into SS from the time we start working, just like Medicare, yet we are told cuts have to be made or age is raised. We are seniors, or going to be, on fixed income and we need our SS benefits and Medicare Benefits to help us.PLEASE take SS and Medicare off the table unless it is to raise the cap so that SS is fully funded forever.

— St Peters, 2012-12-18 09:24:40

They stated mccaskill did not want the social security on the table.

— kansas city, 2012-12-18 09:26:20

— Imperial, 2012-12-18 09:32:59

— Kansas City, 2012-12-18 09:44:28

— Ferguson, 2012-12-18 09:44:40

Asked Aide to please pass on to the Senator that the morning news on a budget deal was not good and that we hope the Senator will remind the President about his pledges during the election about not cutting a budget deal on the backs of Seniors or cutting Social Security or Medicare.

— Joplin, 2012-12-18 09:45:16

Please please don't let "them" cut into our lifeline, which is Social Security and Medicare. How dare they? No cuts to Medicare or SS unless members of the House accept a 25% cut in their salaries.

— St Peters, 2012-12-18 09:45:46

I asked that Senator McCaskill not vote for any cuts to Social Security benefits. The aide said he would pass the message along to her.

— WOOD HEIGHTS, 2012-12-18 09:56:28

She said that she agreed that cuts to Social Security should not be done, she does not want to add to the debt. I do not know what that means, but is disturbs me. She is on the fence. I voted for her and even gave money to her campaign so this is quit alarming to me.

— Ballwin, 2012-12-18 10:05:07

Left message with Kristen to ask Sen McCaskill to continue the fight to secure the current SOC Security and Medicare benefits.

— Hazelwood, 2012-12-18 10:13:49

— Warrensburg, 2012-12-18 10:16:16

Please do whatever it takes to stop efforts to cut Social Security benefits!!!

— , 2012-12-18 10:18:17

I've sent an email to Senator McCaskill on her website yesterday. What we really need to do is begin to inform the public about how little money those on Social Security recieve per month. In terms of how much this is actually affecting our budget, Social Security is hardly taking away anything from this country. The larger issue would be Medicare Part D which the repubs pushed into law and unlike Medicare A & B, there is no contractual bargaining in terms of how much the government can agree to pay pharmaceutical companies. This means that the taxpayers are forced to pay millions for drugs that are being completely overpriced so that the CEO's of those companies can pocket huge sums of money while millions of seniors struggle to pay for their medicines because they must often self pay and they can't afford even the least of their badly needed drugs. It's a lousy system meant only to benefit corporations and greedy politicians. We need to stand up and fight on this issue before they take away everything we have for those of us who desperately need these social programs. People like me who worked hard and paid into the system but now must depend on it to survive. Sincerely, Deborah McDermott St. Louis City

— St. Louis, 2012-12-18 10:30:45

Got an aide and said she would pass on No cuts on SS. Also suggested on way to raise revenue was to have heavy tax on guns and ammo!

— Springfield, 2012-12-18 10:32:19

Assistant said Sen. McCaskill does not believe SS should even be part of the fiscal cliff debate as it does not contribute to the deficit. Go Claire!

— Columbia, 2012-12-18 10:43:56

Senator McCaskill staff informs me that she does not think Social Security should be any part of the discussion on the fiscal cliff issue, but would not tell me that she would try to stop it. I told the staff member that I wanted the Senator to do whatever it takes to stop any cuts. My message will be passed on.

— Jefferson City`, 2012-12-18 10:48:59

Please don't cut Social Security Benefits for Seniors. Why not look at weeding out fraud in welfare and medicare and other Why are we taking from the poor to reward the rich?

— Kansas City, 2012-12-18 10:52:08

Senator McCaakill....I supported you during your campaign both financially and volunteering. So now I am asking you to support NO CHANGES to Social Security and Medicare. Thank you

— Sappington, 2012-12-18 10:53:05

I called Claire McCaskill's office and the staff person said she would tell Senator McCaskill what I said, 'not to cut future benefit cost of living raises'.

— Joplin, 2012-12-18 10:54:48

Senator McCaskill's representative I spoke to stated that the Senator believes that social security should not be included in the discussion of the Physical Cliff. She is right.

— Saint Louis, 2012-12-18 10:58:28

Don't mess with SS or Medicare. There are lots of other ways to meet the budget. And if you raise the age limit from 65-67 to qualify for SS, you are assuming the person will still be working and that will affect younger people that need to move into those jobs.

— Kansas City, 2012-12-18 11:06:35

Just called at 1:03pm on 12/18/12. Young lady ansered the phone and I told her I supported Claire McCaskill and hope that I can count on her to do everything in her power to stop this deal if it includes the reported cuts to Social Security benefits. She said she would pass on my message to the Senator.

— Ozark, 2012-12-18 11:06:41

Got the voicemail due to high volume. I left a message asking that the Senator do what she could to stop any cuts to Social Security benefits.

— St. Louis, 2012-12-18 11:11:17

II started off by letting her secretary who answered the phone know that I lived in MO and even canvassed for McCaskill this past election. I was told that the senator felt that Social Security should be part of a discussion about deficit reduction and that it needed reform, but outside of the fiscal cliff negotiations. I told her secretary that I didn't want to see any cuts to SS and that I felt that those making over $250,000 annually should be the taxed at the rate that they paid taxes under the Clinton years. She asked for my zip code and said that she would let Sen. McCaskill know how I felt.

— spanish Lake, 2012-12-18 11:11:37

yes,of course

— Branson, 2012-12-18 11:14:26

Staff member said that the offer was made last night and Claire had not responded as of yet. However, I asked the staff member why can't we raise the cap on social security and that would take care of the problem. He agreed with me and will have Claire McCaskill write me a letter

Emailed the comments that most of us lost our retirement during the econ downturn. We paid for these benefits and they are not up for bargaining. We did not rally behind you or the President for you to be WEAK!!

— Kansas City, 2012-12-18 12:25:13

To touch social security is NOT a compromise, it is another in a long road of cave ins by President Obama. Do NOT be a supporter of such a cave in!

— Berger, 2012-12-18 12:30:02

I emailed.

— Columbia, 2012-12-18 12:31:16

Voice mailbox is full. I will leave a comment on her web page.

— Kansas City, 2012-12-18 12:33:05

Office staff said they'd pass on my message that in any deal worked out that she should vote against changes to Soc Sec and Medicare because they aren't gifts to anyone--people have paid into them and they are a social contract that must be honored.

— Ferguson, 2012-12-18 12:38:49

Sick of this shit!

— K.C., 2012-12-18 12:41:50

If I understand this correctly -- cuts to SS benefits would not apply to ANYONE currently ON SS, but to those still working and able to adjust their living style or savings habits to deal with cuts that will affect them at SS age. I disagree that we should all just sit on our hands and let the government take care of us.

— , 2012-12-18 12:42:05

Why is it when cuts are called in they attack social security and medicare

— Raytown, 2012-12-18 12:48:29

Was told he would pass it along.I told them i live on SS, med

— st.louis, 2012-12-18 12:50:23

— Osceola, 2012-12-18 12:58:24

spoke to an assistant. He said he was glad to hear my comments and would be sure to pass it along. I said not only could the elderly not afford the cuts, but SS is our money, it belongs to us and should be a separate account that cannot be touched for any other purpose.

— Bland, 2012-12-18 13:08:35

— Saint Louis, 2012-12-18 13:19:26

We need Soc Sec. more that ever, & we is given out monthly still does not meet the needs of the people that receives it monthly. Please state your voice Strongly.

— Florissant, 2012-12-18 13:22:13

Assistant assured me Sen. M believes SS should not be part of fiscal cliff deal - but should be separate conversation about reform. Well - reform - should not mean cut, I told her, but should be about upping payroll limits and keeping program as crucial one - cut some of the military bloat - over 200 golf courses owned by Pentagon for military upper brass - think we can do without that.

Hey, SS has plenty of money, do not let these guys screw it up again! They have already tapped the SS system. It was wrong the first time, it is wrong now.

please do not cut our Social Security benefits. my parents depend on these benefits to live on. Thank you. Dawn Sweeney

— St. Ann, 2012-12-18 19:30:07

You Promised you would not cut our benefits....

— Harrisonville, 2012-12-19 04:36:51

The aide simply noted my call. I also asked her to support bans on assault weapons.

— Kansas City, 2012-12-19 05:15:28

I called this morning and left a message stating my name and zip code, and indicated that I'm living on Social Security and it is not adequate, and that cuts in my benefits would make my situation even worse. I asked her to do everything in her power to prevent cuts to Social Security benefits.

— St. Louis, 2012-12-19 05:59:13

I spoke with a human being who said she would pass it on to the senator.

— Greentop, 2012-12-19 06:39:21

She's against cuts or changes to Social Security. Won't accept vouchers for Medicare.

— Kansas City, 2012-12-19 06:50:19

Spoke with and administrataive assistant told her to please tell Senator McCaskill to do eveything her power to prevent cuts to Social Security benefits and that I am a volunteer with AARP . She said she would make record my call.

— Kansas City, 2012-12-19 07:06:37

Got answering machine due to high volume of calls. Left message....don't cut social security or medicare.

— Seymour, 2012-12-19 07:39:00

I had to leave a voicemail but at least I was able to do that today. Yesterday I tried twice and the mailbox was full.

— Blue Springs, 2012-12-19 07:45:47

Aide I spoke with said McCaskill isn't "drawing any lines in the sand" (not a good sign when this phrase is used). BUT that she also remains committed to NOT making Social Security part of the "fiscal cliff" discussions AND to examining possible long-term solvency issues re Social Security OUTSIDE of current debt discussions.

— Columbia, 2012-12-19 08:25:48

People put money into social security in good faith. It was CONGRESS that spent it on other things. Now we will punish the oldest and weakest. So we cave again to the rich. Disgusting.

— St louis, 2012-12-19 08:30:36

After speaking with the young lady taking calls for the Senator, I am less certain about the Senator either getting my message or acting on my request to protect Social Security benefits. I asked how would I know that the message was delivered and she said because she was asking for my zip code. What is that about?

— West County, 2012-12-19 08:57:01

Told them we won the election and not to allow cut's in Social Security and Medicare.

— University City, 2012-12-19 09:24:24

Left a message with the staffer who answered who said she would pass along my request to leave Soc Security COLA calculation alone

— , 2012-12-19 10:55:07

I am from California and supported your reelection by contributing to your campaign. Can't/shouldn't this be handled at a later date when it can be more clearly analyzed?

— Altadena, 2012-12-19 11:54:33

McCaskill's mailbox is full. Therefore, it was not possible to leave a message!!

— Springfield, 2012-12-19 12:02:36

said they will pass it on

— Chesterfield, 2012-12-19 12:21:24

Senator McCaskill is committed to protecting and preserving the benefits of Social Security

— Centertown, 2012-12-19 12:51:34

He said he would definitely pass my comments onto Claire. I don't know if she backs it or guess would be she would not support it.

— O'Fallon, 2012-12-19 13:02:54

Left a message with her assistant and requested that the Senator McCaskill know that I wanted her to do everything in her power to stop efforts to cut Social Security benefits.-Hartsburg 2012-12-19

— Hartsburg, 2012-12-19 14:13:11

We're depending on you to hold the line, dear Senator. I received my information on what my SOC SEC would be for 1213. More was taken out for MEDICARE. I don't mind that, because I have enjoyed the coverage because of the comfort of knowing that it is there. So, again..stick with us "middle class" people, PLEASE! Thank you! Rev. Dick Viney

— Branson, 2012-12-19 15:04:20

I left commits with Roy blunt and Claire mccaskill about the reason behind the way we voted in November was to protect social security, Medicare and Medicaid and to tax the people making over 250,000 to not cut benefits for the middle class. I talked to an aide but they said they would see they got my message

— Kansas City, 2012-12-19 15:29:07

— carthage, 2012-12-19 19:35:06

You can not possible sign on to cut social security for our Elderly. You might as well just kill everyone that turns 65 because very few have pensions. And they will have no way to survive. Can't afford food and medicine now. It's shamefully your even wavering on this horrible idea. That was there money they paid in not anybody else's and your going to steal that with There dream of retirement . Shame on you lady shame

— Ballwin, 2012-12-20 00:00:47

I left a message: My wife and I worked very hard to get Claire reelected, including door knocking, financial contributions and hosting one of the workers in the Columbia office. I said that I am very upset about potential cuts to social security and suggested that cuts should come from ag subsidies to agri-business and defense spending and that the wealthy (above $250K) should pay more tax.

— Columbia, 2012-12-20 07:37:24

The person answering the phone said she would be sure to let her know.

— St. Louis, 2012-12-20 07:40:51

I left a msg with her office instructing her to fight to ensure SS benefits are not cut.

— Maryland Hts, 2012-12-20 08:30:53

I left a big message reminding the Senator that SS does NOT add to the deficit, that I live on SS and would be out in the cold without my EARNED BENEFITS. Let's cut the entitlements to big agribusiness, the fossil fuel industry and Pentagon.

— Kansas City, 2012-12-20 09:37:19

I told them this reminded me of George W. Bush promising "Read My Lips - No New Taxes" to get elected, then raised taxes! President Bush didn"t get re-elected!

— St. Louis, 2012-12-20 09:57:26

Stated she's looking at all proposals, will try to avoid cutting ss but doesn't know how she will vote yet. We explained destroying the middle class and further harming low income will destroy our country, allowing the wealthier to take all the wealth is NOT sustainable.

— St. Peters, 2012-12-20 09:58:15

She is not for cutting Social Security benefits as part of the fiscal cliff. I dont think she would cut Social Security.

— Warrenton, 2012-12-20 10:19:58

Her office assistant said he'd be happy to pass along my message.

— , 2012-12-20 11:15:29

Sorry, I didn't ask the right question. I just said I was a stay at home mom and community volunteer. My SS is $561/mo and I'd like for her to oppose any cuts to SS benefits.

— Columbia, 2012-12-20 11:29:58

Please do NOT cave into the pressure to sign an agreement that makes cuts to social security. The majority of americans have already suffered in this economy and these cuts do not reduce deficits anyway. Please support the american people on this. Be a strong voice against this move.

— University City, 2012-12-20 13:25:52

I was told she was willing to look at all options and would not take Social Security off the table.

— Arnold, 2012-12-20 16:34:52

I left a message with an AA. that I paid my. taxes. for some 40 years for SS and i t is an INSURANCE not an ENTITLEMENT like welfare and I want Obama and his sycophants to KEEP HANDS OFF,!,

For petitions and surveys you've signed or completed, we treat your name, city, state, and comments as public information - for example, we may provide compilations of petitions, with your comments, to the President and legislators, other targets, or to the press. We will not make your street address publicly available, but we may transmit it to members of Congress and to the President as part of a petition. This is a standard industry practice in such situations. In no such case will we disclose your email address or phone number without your permission. We may also make your comments, along with your first name, city, and state available to the press and public online.

Under circumstances where we determine that members may be misusing our systems for malicious purposes (for example, using the numbers we provide to make harassing phone calls), such activities may be reported to law enforcement agencies. In such cases, MoveOn may release personally identifiable information, including name and address, to those agencies.

Sending Emails Via Political Action

In certain cases, we enable you to send individual e-mails to the President, legislators, and other targets as well as Letters-to-the-Editor to various news publications, through our website. These messages are sent in your name, with your e-mail address as the return address and your full name and contact information is provided as part of the submission. These messages will only be sent out under your name as you approve them on an individual basis using our email tool. You are solely responsible for the specific message(s) you send using our email tool.
