— Grand Rapids, 2012-12-18 09:24:41

I think MoveOn should get off this fight. Social Security is not sustainable in its current form. It needs to be revised, and this is a small change in comparison to the changes that could be made.

— Ann Arbor, 2012-12-18 10:22:42

Left a message for Sen Stabenow and talked to an aid for Senator Levin. I indicated the following: Dear Senator Stabenow, I think the majority of Americans agree that as part of the fiscal deal, we/you should ensure we do not see any benefit cuts to Medicare, Medicaid, and Social Security. They also believe the wealthiest 2% should pay more taxes. I believe we need to go back to the tax rates of the Clinton year. I add here that Social Security is not an entitlement program; rather, we pay into this program each year and it should be seen as an earned benefit program.. I retired from the Army in 1990 after 20 yrs in the military and a combat tour in Vietnam. I'm willing to pay a bit more in taxes if we can ensure those less fortunate are taken care of with backstop programs such as Social Security.. response to this email.. Thanks Ken P The Aid for Senator Levin indicated that the Senator was aware how important the Social Security Safety new was to Americans and he would pass on my message to Senator Levin

Levin busy, Stabenow-talked to staffer no cuts To Social Security or Medicare

— Detroit, 2012-12-18 11:02:45

I do not wish to see a 2% cut to social security. I worked in the U.S. for 18 years and because I also worked in Canada, I receive the paltry sum of $98 per month.

Left a message for Carl Levin, but pressed #3 and spoke to a real person who assured me that the Senator was on the same side of this issue as I was. I realize now that I should have left my name!

— Lansing , 2012-12-18 12:39:15

I left a message for Levin, Stabenow's box was full and was asked to try again later (I will). I think the object of the radical right is more about undermining ss than balancing the budget.

— bath, 2012-12-18 12:40:21

Support Social Security not only for seniors, of which I am one, but for future generations. The rich keep getting richer on the backs of the middle class and the poor. Work for an egalitarian government and society on our behalf.

mail boxes full. sent an email then

— wellston, 2012-12-18 13:05:07

I talked to staff in both Senator's offices. Both said they would relay my comments to the Senator. Man in Sen. S's office indicated agreement with my points(SS didn't contribute to fiscal crisis, was currently solvent and could be made more so by raising the cap, was the main source of income for the most vulnerable, unfairness of asking retirees to pay for excesses of wall street, mortgage brokers. Bush tax cuts , 2 ill advised wars, medicare part D as written to benefit big pharma and other policies which mainly benefit the wealthy are also the cause. To fix it, go to the people and corporations who have benefited most, not those who have the least. Suggested a small tax on every wall street transaction.) The one possible change involving SS which might be palatable could involve means testing for benefits if done right. President and other Democrats were elected after promising to protect SS, medicare, medicaid. Now, they have to honor those commitments and look for solutions from those with the most resources who have received most of the benefits for the last 30 years.

— Lake Orion, 2012-12-18 13:06:13

Stabenow's box was full. I couldn't get through. I talked to an aid in Levin's office. He said he would pass the message on to him

— flint, 2012-12-18 13:11:54

Sen. Stabenow: I spoke to office rep and she said that the Senator will not support any cuts in Soc Sec benefits. Sen Levin office rep said he would pass on my opinion of leaving all benefits in place.

— Harrisville, 2012-12-18 13:17:01

I would like to personally thank you for standing up for what is right and good for the citizens.

— Sylvan Twp, 2012-12-18 13:19:48

Spoke with staff. Both promised to relay my sentiments to their bosses. I ask for senators to make no deal that involves cuts to benefits.

— Hamtramck, 2012-12-18 13:22:05

I also requested that they do everything in their power to not capitulate to the Republicans and increase only those who make over 400K as reported this morning. First off, it is not a tax increase - it is a tax rate reinstatement since these cuts were only supposed to be temporary. Cutting out the 250-399K sector will not help revenues.

— royal oak, 2012-12-18 13:22:10

Left messages at both offices! I hope they are listening!

— Belleville, 2012-12-18 13:23:12

— grosse pointe woods, 2012-12-18 13:35:13

He has not made a decision at this time .

— Detroit, 2012-12-18 13:35:28

I called Sen. Levins office Washington office & spoke to office staff who said that Sen. Levin is very aware of the people of Michigans needs, and that Pres. Obama has not made any statements regarding cutting SS, medicare or medicaid yet. I told him I had read that the President & Boehner HAD cut a deal as of Monday, and the young man said he would pass on my concerns to Sen. Levin....! Spoke to a young woman at Sen. Stabenow's office who parroted that the Senator has always been a staunch supporter of NOT allowing these cuts and would pass on my concerns to Sen. Stabenow. In truth, the girl sounded like she couldn't give a hoot!!

— Reed City, 2012-12-18 13:36:30

My message: "If you support President Barack Obama in negotiating social security, medicaid, medicare and entitlement spending cuts -- we, the majority of voters in Michigan, will not support you in 2014, 2016, 2018, 2020. Thank you.

— Detroit, 2012-12-18 13:37:58

Sen Stabenow is against cuts to social security. Apparently Sen Levin has no position on this, which is a disappointment.

— Grand Ledge, 2012-12-18 13:40:09

I just spoke with folks in both their offices and made our position clear. I live on less than $9,000 per year right now from SS and cannot afford to live on much less.

— Daerborn, 2012-12-18 13:42:11

Left a msg for Stabenow.

— Eaton Rapids, 2012-12-18 13:42:40

— Mason, 2012-12-18 13:51:29

Senator Levin has not issued a public decision at this time. When I said that he would probably throw us under the bus, his staff worker said no, he would never do that.

— Beulah, 2012-12-18 14:02:53

I spoke with a representative of Sent. Levin who stated he would relay my message. Sen. Stabenow's voice mail was too full to leave a message and I will try again tomorrow.

— Fenton, 2012-12-18 14:13:30

Left message with Carl Levin opposed to cuts. Debbie Stabenows mailbox was full. I will try again.

— Roscommon,, 2012-12-18 14:15:09

Sen. Stabenow's mailbox was full and I was unable to get thru.

— Maple City, 2012-12-18 14:25:57

Senator Levin and Stebenow 's representative took the call because their mail boxes are full. Both mentioned that they will pass the message alog, however, both senators would not be in favor of deal that would cut Social Security and medicare.

— Ann Arbor, 2012-12-18 14:26:27

I am opposed to Social Security changes that would create more hardship for the elderly and disabled. It's not fair that they have worked so hard, paid into the system at such high rates and now have to be put on the chopping block. I don't have a problem with sacrificing something to help my country, but where does it stop? I ask you what are they who are on this fixed income to do? Please do not allow the Republicans to squeeze you into giving the rich slack at the cost of those who do not have it to give.

— Harper Woods, 2012-12-18 14:29:07

no cuts to ss

— chesterfield, 2012-12-18 14:34:37

MI Sen. Stabenow's voice mailbox still full at 5:30 pm; called back & talked to staffer who assured me Stabenow opposes cuts. Talked to staffer in MI Sen. Levin's office who said he'd pass on my msg.

— Grosse Pointe Woods, 2012-12-18 14:35:54

I spoke to a rep at both offices they are adding my call to their list of agregates

— Hadley, 2012-12-18 14:37:55

Neither Senator's staff mentioned any commitment to stop any deal, but did commit to 'resisting' one. I also told Senator Stabenow's staffer that I wanted the 15% tax limit on capital gains to be eliminated, and that I would rather see us go over the 'fiscal cliff' than see that gimme to the ultra rich stay in place.

— Ferndale, 2012-12-18 14:42:59

Left a message with Senator Stabenow.

— Eastport, 2012-12-18 17:59:32

Very very disgusted tonight, totally shocked that President Obama has put Social Security on the table after promising that wouldn't be considered. Once again WE seniors are being left behind. Sad to say we can't trust anyone to keep promised made.

— Kalamazoo, 2012-12-18 18:06:08

mail box full for Debbie stabenow, left message for Carl Levin

— redford, 2012-12-19 05:32:55

Talked to Carl Levin's assistant would give him message.Senator Stabenow unreachable mailbox full and recording by assistant suggesting e.mail !

— , 2012-12-19 06:05:11

Senator Stabenow's office was very clear that she did not support any changes to Social Security or Medicate. I cannot say the same about Senator Levin's office. I had to keep pressing about what his position was. I told his assistant that we don't need democrats that are not supporting seniors on this issue. I also said that Senator Levin is in Washington to support us and that is what he should do. I think others should call Senator Levin's office so that we can all feel comfortable that he is supporting seniors.

— Detroit, 2012-12-19 06:12:54

keep up the good work.

it is important to remember that if someone has a differing opinion, he/she is not necessarily WRONG. I called both Senators and stated my view that Social Security should not be in the "deal". It has not contributed to the deficit and any adjustments can be made at a later time with lots of preliminary thought.

— Alden, 2012-12-19 08:05:41

dear sentors I am one of the many who depended on social security. I can assure you that this deal I have read about, will in a short time destroy me. With every new year my cost for every day things goes up and my income seems to always go down I ask you this now, how can I to continue to cut cost when I am already on life suport. It seems that every time cost have to be cut in is always the people who can lease afford it that must make the most cuts.As always the rich own the goverment and therfor the poor must suffer. Things need to change .If history has tought us any thing, its that people will only take so much before they start fighting back.
