When you asked the Senator if they would do everything in their power to stop this deal if it includes the reported cuts to Social Security benefits, what did they say?

What Other MoveOn Members Are Hearing

I suggested that he leave a good legacy instead of a wishy-washy one. Hope it helped.

spoke to staff member who told me that Sen. Lieberman does not want to make cuts to SS however he realizes that concessions will have to be made somewhere. I asked the staff member to pass on my message: I do not believe that SS is problematic fiscally at this time- I urge Se. Lieberman not to agree to cuts in programs that affect the elderly poor and children who are at poverty or close to poverty levels. Concessions can be made in areas that would affect those who are financially comfortable. Cutting programs that affect the mental and physical health of citizens who are already stressed will be detrimental and costly to the entire country in the futur.

— Guilford, 2012-12-18 08:55:12

no cuts to social security

— Sherman Oaks, 2012-12-18 09:12:10

left message telling him that while I am not from his state, that Senators do what is best for the entire country and that the Republicans lost this race and keep acting like they won. I asked that he not support any cuts to SS and that I would rather pay the additional taxes than to cede to them any cuts to SS as SS did not put us in this mess; their tax cuts and wars put us here so please do that which is right!

— Safety Harbor, 2012-12-18 09:19:09

tried dialing Joe Lieberman's # it kept hanging up. number

— Thousand Oaks, 2012-12-18 09:24:27

didn't talk to staff - just left urgent message to Lieberman "before you leave Congress do protect the elderly, the poor and children. Leave Medicare and Medicaid alone. It should be your last important action in the Congress, before you go.

— New York, 2012-12-18 09:27:38

Senator Lieberman is open to reforms in social security that would make it solvent for future retirees. He could not comment on the fiscal cliff deal, because nothing has been presented yet.

— Tolland, 2012-12-18 09:30:12

Don't cut social security for people earning < $250,000

— Enfield, 2012-12-18 09:32:09

I did not reach teh Senator however, I did leave a voice message uring him to do everything in his power to stop a deal that includes cuts to Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid.

— San Jose, 2012-12-18 09:40:48

Senator is hedging - not committing to no cuts in social security

— new fairfield, 2012-12-18 09:57:23

Please, no cuts to Social Security or Colas. We do not want or need unchained Colas. We need Colas for WPI-E for seniors. We are on a fixed income, and need cost of living raises, which keep up with Inflation.

— Pembroke Pines, 2012-12-18 10:01:18

When I tried to leave a voice message for him I was cut off.

— Groton, 2012-12-18 10:21:55

Not acceptable to cut Social Security after I've already paid for it!

— Seattle, 2012-12-18 10:51:26

Staffer was non-committal. I asked him to convey to the Senator my strong wishes that he NOT support cuts to these vital programs, whether directly, through changes in eligibility or COLA, or some other fashion.

— New Haven, 2012-12-18 11:21:39

Mr Liebeman When are you going to show the Democrats that you are defending their interest. Republican sticks together why it is not true for the Democrats?

— Westlake Village, 2012-12-18 11:23:32

Man up, Joe! Don't take from the poor to give to the rich!

— panama city beach, 2012-12-18 11:40:09

— avon, 2012-12-18 12:17:26

You're on your way out JOE, please just vote present if you can't vote with the PEOPLE.

— Barlow, 2012-12-18 13:24:09

I am a CT native....lived there for 60 years. My attorney was Susan Wolfson, yourformer partner. Why would you turn your back on those of us who worked for most of our lives ( in my case over 50 years), when we depend on our Social Security And Medicare in ourretirement? Is the response of the wealthy so Darwinistic? " Go away or Die?"

— Kittery, 2012-12-18 13:45:01

Thanked me politely and grid to get me off the phone -- said he'd have no commitment until the proposal was in print

— , 2012-12-18 13:46:22

Sen. does not want to start with cuts in Soc Sec, wants to cut defense spending etc. but sees importance of "reforms." I told the staffer they should raise or eliminate the cap on Soc Sec contributions for high income earners and then Soc Sec would be much more robust.

— Norwalk, 2012-12-18 13:46:46

I left a message on the answering machine.

— DURHAM, 2012-12-18 14:50:43

I told him that as a givernment employee whose program will be directly affected by any automatic cuts, I still support resisting any cuts whatsoever to SS. I encouraged him to resist being bullied by the Republicans.

— Walnut Creek, 2012-12-18 14:53:01

I called Senator Lieberman & got a recorded message. I left a message strongly asking him not to concede to the Republicans but to do the right thing for all citizens. Vote No to cuts to SS. I left my name, phone number & e-mail & asked for a response.

— San Diego, 2012-12-18 14:57:03

Left a message strongly opposed to any tampering with SS benifits. Since the 1970's when Congress saw fit to steel our saved money & put it into the General Fund it's been a mess. Thank you Washington.

— New Hartford, 2012-12-18 15:36:19

I am not from your jurisdiction, but I thought the middle class could count on you. If you are retiring please don't vote to cut SS. If you do, include cute to your retirement and "entitlements" also. Thank you for your support.

— westport, 2012-12-18 16:33:21

Stand up for Democratic Principles & refuse to negotiate away our Social Security.

— Traverse City, 2012-12-18 17:53:24

I called after hours, left a very strong message against any changes to social security and said I would be watching Senator Lieberman's actions on this matter very closely.

— Litchfield, 2012-12-18 18:12:10

Senator Lieberman's C T office said they were deluged with calls today urging him to stop the Social Security cuts.

— Norwalk, 2012-12-18 19:09:00

i have worked since i was 15 snd if yoyu decide to cut nmy ssor medicare i want every cent back that i put into it. how dare you or any one else. cut your salary and your health care benefits. leave us alone

— Henrico, 2012-12-19 05:14:39

Basically says Lieberman is uncommitted till there's a deal on the table w/compromise. I told him there should be no compromise with Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid! Then I asked if he wanted my name, address, etc. and he said, OK, what is your zip code.

— Glastonbury, 2012-12-19 06:12:31

I qualify for welfare as I make only 9.50 hr as a caregiver. I refuse to apply, that is my part, what is yours? Don't make the middle class continue to pay for bad Republican idealogly. I pay into the SS fund. It is an earned payout. Stand up for us.

— New Port Richey, 2012-12-19 09:43:24

Talked with his staff and the person said that Liberman has not made up his mind. I said that my information indicates that he will vote in favor of the SS changing over to using CPI instead of using an inflation index. I said that SS should not even be part of any bill to reduce our deficit and that our government needed to get serious about reducing the waste of tax money in defense areas.

— Madison, 2012-12-19 10:35:32

They said they would pass along my comments. The staff person said they couldn't discuss his position until they have an actual detailed proposal- beyond talking points... I said I would call back when that happens...

— Greenwich, 2012-12-19 13:07:10

spoke to staff member who told me that there is no proposal for Sen L to comment on at this time but that he realizes that concessions will have to be made somewhere but until there is a proposal he can't comment on what those concessions will be...otherwise known as Same Ol Joe Who's Gotta Go (faster!!)

— Marlborough, 2012-12-19 14:06:14

Senator Lieberman, please do not to agree to cuts in programs that affect the elderly poor and children who are at poverty or close to poverty levels. Concessions can be made in areas that would affect those who are financially comfortable.

— , 2012-12-20 06:28:52

First tried to leave mesage and voice mail was full. I called back and talked to a staff member. I said even though I knew the Senator was leaving I would like him to do everything in his power to stop all cuts of any kind to Social Security as well as the elibility age. I said my Social Security was extremely important to me as I worked all my life for it. If there had to be cuts then make it to the people who make more than 250,000 a year as those people do not need it as much as the others who make less than that and many of us including myself fall in that category. The staff member took my zip code and said he would pass it on.

— Enfield, 2012-12-20 07:29:49

lieberman is worthless. worse than worthless, actually. we are SO grateful he's on his way OUT. FINALLY. now maybe we can get a senator that works for the people of CT instead of only for his own perfectly forgettable and lousy career.

— Upper Stepney, 2012-12-20 07:42:20

Begged him to used whatever persuasive ability he had with people across the aisle to assure that 'Plan B' does not pass.

— Middletown, 2012-12-20 16:23:45

Could not get through to staff. Left message and asked for reply. Will update when it arrives.

— Cheshire, 2012-12-21 08:22:43

Spoke to staffer - he did not say what the senator would do, but was polite and said would pass along the message - Plainville 12/21/12

— Plainville, 2012-12-21 12:37:48

tryed to leave message messages full

The irony/hypocrisy of gov’t agencies that have no poemlrbs berating and bullying private institutions about their data handling and security practices that are then shown to come up short themselves is both amusing and disturbing. The primary disconnect here (I think) is that in the dark world handing sensitive information according to given standards is drilled into you from day one and by and large is a given that no one thinks twice about. Now we’re talking about quasi-private/public data being handled by people who don’t have the same culture trying to implement policy that is still warm from the printer.Public or private the fact that there is an event like this almost weekly shows how very unserious we are about these issues, which is sad given the importance of such data to both the person and the community.
