— Santa Monica, 2012-12-18 09:03:36

I spoke to a phone representative when I called Sen. Feinstein. She said she would pass on my message. And I left a recorded message when I called Sen. Boxer. I urged them both not to cut Social Security, Medicare, and other social support systems that the poorest Americans depend on to survive. If we cut these programs, our economy will go into a depression. It is better to just go over the cliff and deal with the consequences then agree to a terrible deal like the Republicans are proposing.

— San Francisco, 2012-12-18 09:03:43

Both the Washington and LA office phones for Sen. Feinstein were busy. I tried several times. I left a message on Sen. Boxer's constituent voice mail. Like others on this list, I suggested that military spending should be reduced. We cannot cling to the argument that the economy will suffer. Military spending is not sustainable.

— Ojai, 2012-12-18 09:12:43

Senator Feinstein's line was continuously busy. Left a message on Senator Boxer's voicemali.

— San Francisco, 2012-12-18 09:12:46

would you do everything in your power to stop this deal if it includes the reported cuts to Social Security benefits

— Laguna Niguel, 2012-12-18 09:12:47

Senator Feinstein office was sympathetic to the message of why cuts are devastating to us that rely on them for survival although said no actual final deal is on the table. Senator Boxers office is firm on the matter by saying, "She is democratic." I understood immediately what she was inferring. We paid into this system, so there should be no question of cuts, instead we should be finding ways to stop cutting out our middle class. I see the top 1% turning into the top 30% and the middle class suffering. Other times in history have been the same where we had the poor and the idolaters of self take over the cities. Please look at the spending in other areas that is causing major financial fiscal issues. For example: the costs of education, health care and incarceration of illegal aliens, and concludes that the costs to Californians is $10.5 billion per year. K-12 education system spends approximately $7.7 billion a year to school the children of illegal aliens who now constitute 15 percent of the student body. Another $1.4 billion of the taxpayers' money goes toward providing health care to illegal aliens and their families, the same amount that is spent incarcerating illegal aliens criminals. These realities are the true reason for our country and as a whole, the United States of America. So, you would rather cut what has been paid out of our pockets already instead of face the "Real" issue at hand? Simply put, we could afford everything if we would CUT out paying for illegals to take over silently and get paid to do so. This is the crux of our issues not Medicare or SSI and so on.... Does anyone have the guts to face it on the House of representatives? Thus far no, but we sure have come down to the wire here with it all. Please, let's do what is right, finally. Raise up this country, not knock it down again while you walk into an ER and it is full of Spanish speaking people getting first priority and free care while my brother can't get any help due to having a below poverty income because of Construction Jobs being taken by these same people who are riding on our backs for free in every way. There. I had the guts to tell the truth. With care, Elisa

— Foster City, 2012-12-18 09:31:55

I wrote (email) to both Senator Feinstein and Boxer, and to President Obama with this message: Dear President Obama, I understand from media reports that you may be about to contradict Sen Harry Reid's promise by eliminating some of the cost of living increases of social security going forward. I hope that you will oppose ANY cut to social security. All of my life I have heard stories of unfortunate people living with only a social security check each month to support themselves. How dare any of us consider making it MORE difficult for these people - who have worked and paid into social security their whole lives?? If anything, we should be increasing their payments while we increase taxes on the $250,000 (not just 1 million) earners and find places to cut in our Pentagon and war budgets - which are the real money grabbers in this country. Sincerely, Terry Bailey

I also left a voicemail for senator boxer and asked her if she can be counted on to do the same.

Voiced incredulity that SS is even in the discussion as it is not part of the deficit, period, and that this is proof of Obama's corporatist complicity.

— Winchester, 2012-12-18 09:35:49

Left message asking to defend Social Security. I aslo stated current COLA is ridiculous.

— Bellflower, 2012-12-18 09:37:18

I worked my whole adult life and I paid into SS, my whole working life. I paid 33% of my income annually in taxes, for over 20 years. I now suffer from a debilitating nerve damage disease & I can no longer work. It is NOT FAIR that now Republicans are suggesting my benefits for disability be cut. When you pay into SS disability, it is like paying into any other insurance policy – Insurance policies should not be considered for cuts so people making over $250,000 can get better UNECCESSARY tax cuts. It is WRONG & we should NOT ALLOW this to happen to hard working people that paid into a SS program. If your home were destroyed by a fire & your home owners insurance company decided instead of reimbursing you to repair/replace your home, they would give you only partially what you paid for, you wouldn’t stand for it. I paid into my disability insurance & you shouldn’t stand for anyone to cut my due benefits.

— Bonsall, 2012-12-18 09:37:18

I worked thru the DNC on your last campaign, knocked on hundreds of doors. We all expect YOU to Stand Strong and never waver.I understand the Joe Manchins of the world but the Bay Area's Representatives should be with us in our time of Need.

— Castro Valley, 2012-12-18 09:38:38

Asked her to protect Social Security and said that cuts could be applied to the wealthy, as many seniors have relied on Social Security in the past and must have this in the future.

— Yucca Valley, 2012-12-18 09:38:54

I finally got thru to Senator Feinstein's office. The operator said the Senator is firmly against the President changing the Cost of Living Adjustments as is being rumored in the media.

— San Francisco, 2012-12-18 09:39:02

Their staff responded & they both said OK . Thank you

— Irvine, 2012-12-18 09:39:24

— Pleasant Hill, 2012-12-18 09:41:53

Feinstein's line is just continuously busy.

— Tuolumne, 2012-12-18 09:42:07

I've done it more than once. Usually speak with a staff person who relays the message. Boxer is good, Feinstein is iffy.

— Palm Springs, 2012-12-18 09:42:52

Feinstein busy twice. Left message on Sen. Boxer's answering machine.

— Manhattan Beach, 2012-12-18 09:43:44

left message with Senator Boxer

— Sacramento, 2012-12-18 09:43:58

please dont reduce Social SecurIty

— Cambria, 2012-12-18 09:44:08

I left a voicemail. I do not agree with ongoing cuts to SS, Medicare, Medicaid, etc. However, I think everyone can share in some of the tax burden so there is some wiggle room there ONLY IF those earning $500K or more have their tax cuts removed and tax loopholes (like foreign deposits Mr. Romney). Also, they should raise the taxes on luxury items like multiple mega homes, expensive boats and cars as well. If those things are on the table then I can see a slight option to negotiate with entitlements (but definitely not ongoing until they do away with it forever!).

— Burbank, 2012-12-18 09:44:15

I left a message urging her to do all that she can to avoid any cuts to the Social Security program.

— Oakland, 2012-12-18 09:44:43

Finstein rang busy

— Glendora, 2012-12-18 09:44:58

I have written an email to both Barbara boxer and Dianne Feinstein to not give in to the Republicans on Social Security and Medicare cuts. I am 83 and my wife is 81 we have paid into the system for our entire working lives and are not getting a gift in these entitlements. I got a response from senator Feinstein that didn't commit to what she is going to do about it.. Very sad...Hopefully they will support our request to do the right thing...

— Elk Grove, 2012-12-18 09:46:58

So far, just a busy signal at Feinstein's number.

— Berkeley, 2012-12-18 09:47:09

Senator Feinstein's phone had a continuous busy signal. I was not able to speak Senator Boxer personally but the staff that took my call states he Will pass my message to her.

I can't get thru to Feinstein.

— Menlo Park, 2012-12-18 09:48:02

— Huntington Beach, 2012-12-18 09:48:13

I called & emailed both senators. I am so grateful for these updates.

— san francisco, 2012-12-18 09:48:24

Take the entitlements away from congress first. When did the word entitlement become a bad word? Mean spirited and selfish.

— Los Angeles, 2012-12-18 09:48:43

Her rep said Boxer will not take a position until she knows the details of the deal.

— salinasRdSalinas, 2012-12-18 09:49:19

Had to call Sen. Boxer's SF office. Left a message, asked for a confirming call.

— Redwood City, 2012-12-18 09:49:26

I made it clear my continued support of Ms. Boxer relies on her protection of Social Security benefits, Medical, Medicaid, etc. We pay into these programs to protect our futures. We are entitled to the benefit and the programs do NOT impact the deficit.

— San Francisco, 2012-12-18 09:49:34

I got a busy signal w/ Feinstein, too. Either it's jammed w/ calls or it's off the hook.

— Woodland, 2012-12-18 09:50:10

Left Boxer a voicemail; Feinstein's DC office doesn't have a voicemail bank, so I called her LA Office! I left a message with the person who answered, so I hope it gets passed along. Do the same, and maybe she'll add a voicemail on her DC number! Feinstein CA Offices: San Francisco: (415) 393-0707 Los Angeles: (310) 914-7300 San Diego: (619) 231-9712 Fresno: (559) 485-7430

— San Leandro, 2012-12-18 09:52:13

Was able to leave a message with Boxer, but Feinstein's phone is giving a busy signal

— Alameda Pt, 2012-12-18 09:52:37

Protect the middle class. Didn't the "people" say no to changes in MediCare and increasing taxes on the middle class. Now is the time to hold your ground and not negotiate away your mandate.

— Paso Robles, 2012-12-18 09:52:39

Boxer -- answering machine Feinstein -- talked to a person

— Indio, 2012-12-18 09:52:48

Thank you for responding so quickly to this matter. Seniors spent all their lives paying into Social Security & the gov't has "borrowed" money from the Social Security Fund for other causes throughout the years. This is a SOCIAL JUSTICE ISSUE. I take meals to seniors who are living in extreme concern of not being able to survive. Is this JUST?

— San Diego, 2012-12-18 09:53:16

Dianne Feinstein's # was busy but I will kept calling until I get through & I will kept count on how many times I called & let the Senator know my displeasure with the busy signal. Left a message with Barb, reminded her why I voted for her. I also reminded her that we won the republican lost so she had better stand up for what she ran on. I need a number for the white house so we can remind the President on what he put forth while campiaging. Thanks so your request and kept up the good work.

— Fontana, 2012-12-18 10:00:12

Left a message for Sen Boxer asking her to refuse to cut SS benefits or stymie COLA adjustments. Pointed out that food and gas are no longer included on the inflationary index! I'd rather step on the gas and go off the fiscal cliff than extend the Bush cuts and screw the Baby Boomers - perhaps the greatest generation of Americans in our hx.

— San Diego, 2012-12-18 10:00:43

I would rather have the age of eligibility for social security raised than the COLA affected for those on a fixed income.

— Fair Oaks, 2012-12-18 10:01:09

Senator Feinsteins telephone was busy!! I left a voice mail message in Senator Boxers telephone!!

— Arlington, 2012-12-18 10:10:46

Sen. Boxer's staff person said the Senator has not taken a position yet on the current budget negotiations, but that she has always been a strong supporter of social benefit programs. I stated that I wanted her to stand firm against any cuts to Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, and that Social Security should not even be part of these discussions since it has nothing to do with the deficit.

— Palo Alto, 2012-12-18 10:11:29

Dianne Feinstein was hard to reach. I left a message with Barbara Boxer. Please do not touch social security, medicare & medicaid. We pay into the system.

— Los Angeles, 2012-12-18 10:11:30

Please do all you can to stop the cuts to SS all of us older have payed into it for such a long time . And now they want to make cuts to it , cola and medical all that is doing is making it harder for a older person to live and buy for and scripts. So please help us.

— stockton, 2012-12-18 10:12:10

Had to call outside Washington offices. They only seem to take the message, no comment except thank you, will let the Senators know. I said: Any deal to cut Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid is worse than no deal at all. It will be a slippery slope if you allow the Republicans to use these programs as their bargaining chip to fix a deficit that they help make under the Bush years and quite frankly the beginning of the Plot Against Social Security. Facts are out here and only the Democrats can stop their plan to dismantle the government and these programs.

When I saw that Boxr was not on Campion list and is considered waivering I was shocked and angry. Talked with Emily in Sen. Feinstein's SF office, the other number was constantly busy. She said they are getting alot of calls on this, but she has not had a recent statement from the Senator. I also asked her to pass on that I want to know who we will be putting up to replace Kerry, and that I believe this is a trick, that GOP will keep hands clean while letting 'swift boat' people destroy his career for next Senate run, as well as make him unviable for SOS. Sen. Boxer, left recorded msg, just about Soc. Security issue.

— San Diego, 2012-12-18 10:40:14

Sen. Feinstein's number was busy, busy, busy. I left a message for Senator Boxer asking her to not cave in to the obstructionists and that I believed President Obama's promise to not touch SS and Medicare was in good faith, that I live on a very tight budget already, and do not want to be forced to eat dog food.

— San Jose, 2012-12-18 10:42:17

Feinstein's office had a busy signal. Left message on Boxer's voice mail. Also, Obama's needs to do something more than the weak attempt made by the U.S. ATTY GENERAL to compensate all U.S. citizens who lost their home due to the stall tactics and devious manipulations to OBAMA's HAMP by banks. Banks should be made to give a home to each of us that were effected. The miniscule compensations proposed by the $27billion agreement are also being ignored by the banking community. It seems to me that the U.S. ATTY GENERAL has forgotten this injustice against the American people now that they succeeded in their weak attempt to negotiate compensation. It wasn't enough. This is a matter of people who lost their homes. PEOPLE who have feelings, who have been emotionally devastated by being put out of their home. People who breathe the same air that the president does. Even Boxer's office believed the lies that BofA told them. Shame on the President. Shame on the politicians who haven't baned together to send protect us. Shame on the U.S. ATTY GENERAL.

— West Point, 2012-12-18 10:42:44

Feinstein was a little harder to reach, however they're both on the side of not messing with the current status-quo of social security & medicare

— San Jose, 2012-12-18 10:43:01

— Ridgecrest, 2012-12-18 10:44:59

The person who answered the call said Feinstein hasn't made a statement yet. Boxer's staff was non-committal. Both said they would let the Senator know about my views.

— ALTA LOMA, 2012-12-18 10:52:37

I wrote both of my senators and the President of the United States. Here is what I wrote to my Senators: Dear Senator, Here is a letter I wrote to the President of the United States. I strongly urge you to represent me and the majority of Americans on this issue if given a chance to vote on the fiscal cliff deal. Thank you! Dear Mr. President, What are you doing? Who have you become? I thought you PROMISED to NOT compromise on rolling back the Bush tax cuts for the wealthiest Americans! Now you are not only willing to compromise by extending the Bush tax cuts for everyone earning less than $400,000 a year, but to also pay for it by increasing taxes on the middle class AND cutting Social Security benefits!?! With the majority of Americans behind you on raising taxes on earners who make more than $250K why are you compromising on this and further caving to Republican interests by cutting social security benefits? YOU HAVE A MANDATE! Why are you letting the Republicans and the wealthiest Americans benefit while placing the burden on the poor and elderly? This is directly contrary to what you promised you were going to do, what you ran on and why you were re-elected! I am feeling disappointed, embarrassed, betrayed disenfranchised, disgusted and angry. And, I am a pretty moderate democrat. There is NO WAY that I can see that you can justify caving to the republicans on taxes for the rich AND cutting Social Security benefits for the poor and elderly. If you have to do one to prevent the other, then maybe you would get a pass, but to cave on BOTH is unfathomable!!

— WLA, 2012-12-18 10:53:21

Never got through to Sen Feinstein, but I did leave a message for Sen Boxer thanking her for her past actions and requesting that she not negotiate on either SS or tax stand on the 2%.

— Fremont, 2012-12-18 10:55:17

instead of cutting social security for people that have worked all their lives, they must stop SSI for people who knowingly come here from other countries past 60 with the sole purpose to become parasite and collect money that they have never put into the system for they never worked here. SSI should be for our people that were born here. These elderly foreigners know they have a good deal coming to this country at that age. Just to collect. If they come their children should take responsibility of their care. Enough is enough 1

No one picked up and the call was disconnected after about five minutes. I left a (hopefully) recorded message with Senator Boxer's voicemail

— los angeles, 2012-12-18 11:04:37

Was told by Senator Boxer's aide that Boxer is waiting for a final deal to be put on the table. However, given Boxer's staunch opposition to cuts in social security throughout the years, it is expected that Boxer will remain opposed to any deal that includes any sort of cuts to SS.

— Mar Vista, 2012-12-18 11:04:46

— Laguna Woods, 2012-12-18 11:44:21

Social security is not a problem and should be strengthened, along with the rest of the safety net for our society. The 'fiscal cliff' is a myth to create a problem so that psychologically the populace is more likely to accept negative change. It's the fake crisis strategy. We'll actually be in better position after the new year -- with a greater dem majority in the senate -- to responsibly make economic change. I left a message with Boxer. Feinstein's line is busy.

— Alameda, 2012-12-18 11:46:58

I did speak with a Staff Member at Senator Boxer's off who stated she would vote against any cuts to Social Security Benefits on the Senate Floor last week. He also stated he cannot quote on what she how she would vote on the Obamo-Boehner plan until she actually voted. I was unable to reach Senator Feinstein's office. Her phone is constantly busy. I spoke directly to one of Senator Boxer's assistants and expressed my expectation that she protect Social Security and NOT support cuts to Social Security because it was a life line for senior citizens on limited income. They counted on it and had contributed to the system for years and earned their right to receive benefits.

Finally got through, stated my age, that I, and millions of other folks cannot afford ANY cut in social security. We have paid into this program for 40 plus years and it simply needs to be off the table. Cut the damn drones!

Feinstein usy busy busy

— San Francisco, 2012-12-18 13:37:03

I have been a member of MoveOn since its founding. However, we need to reduce entitlements as much as we need to raise tax rates. Social security and medicare costs must be reduced, and I favor any plan to do so. A balance between increased revenues and reduced spending (shared by military and entitlements) is the right formula.

— La Mesa, 2012-12-18 13:37:19

I spoke to an aid in Sen Feinstein's office and was told that she has not made her position public yet. She asked me for my zip code and told me she would pass along my message to the Senator.

— garden grove, 2012-12-18 13:45:17

I emailed Senator Feinstein to tell her there was a clear mandate to not mess with social security and medicare. I told her it looked like the democrats were supporting the Ryan Budget which the people clearly rejected and that why should the many pay for lower taxes for the few.

— Westchester, 2012-12-18 13:45:22

Left message on voicemail. Said no deal is better than one that cuts benefit programs. Added that should the President propose cuts, it should be opposed.

Left a message, and also told to stop the GUNS.....

— Santa Monica, 2012-12-18 13:48:14

Senator Boxer, please don't let our President touch SS. I worked all my life and paid into SS so I deserve receiving this benefit when I retired. Why is Obama agreeing with the Rep. we voted for him and now he is deceiving us. He promised that SS would not be touched but now he is taking an about-face. I'm upset with him because so many people believed in him and now he turned on us. He cried in front of the camera to make us believe he cares about the middle-class but now he is turning his back on us, wow this is very deceitful because I trusted him :-(

— Long Beach, 2012-12-18 13:49:12

Left educated economic message for Boxer explaining cutting ss AND MEDICARE COULD POTENTIALLY BE a death sentence for some seniors without money.Boxer has no economic acumen as SHE voted for the BAILOUT of the banking system which further enriched bankers and empoverished the people as banks took the bailout money at 0.2% and bought 30 year government bonds at 4% made a windfall profit, took record BONUSES and DID NOT USE THE MONEY TO LEND TO WE THE PEOPLE. This is a crime. Wake up people.

— Beverley Hills, 2012-12-18 13:49:24

Suggested Sen. Bernie Sanders proposal of increasing the FICA payroll deduction to increase the amount in the Social Security Trust Fund which is already solvent for 27 years. Urged them not to reduce the Social Security cost of living increase. Suggested negotiating with drug companies on Medicare prescription drugs as all other civilized countries do that provide national health care.

— Santa Rosa, 2012-12-18 13:58:57

Sen. Feinstein's DC Office stated that she has has not taken a position. Sen. Boxer's Los Angeles Office read a statement that included two bill supported by the Sen: S1558 that would remove the income caps on SS contributions (a true solution that would fund SS through 2085; and S586 that protect SS benefits, which I hope includes reductions to CPI; adjustments, including "Chained CPI," which assume the poor can purchase something of lesser value.

I'm a progressive and I say make the deal.

— Thousand Oaks, 2012-12-18 14:01:03

I said no politician will have my support if they cave in on Social Security benefit cuts. SS kept us from poverty when I was young and lost my father. It is a life saver for many Americans. To even talk about such unnecessary cuts (reducing the benefit formula)is treachery to all progressives. Why is the president capitulating when he holds the cards?

— Sacramento, 2012-12-18 14:01:39

Boxer recoerded my comment. Feinstein line was busy- more likely she told her office to take the phone off the hook-we need to replace Feinstein with a liberal dem!

— , 2012-12-18 14:11:53

Feinstein's answering machine asks that you call back during regular business hours and won't allow a message. However, it is 5pm on the East Coast. This message came after continuous busy signals.

— La Canada, 2012-12-18 14:12:31

The Feinstein DC office number is either overwhelmed or does not take messages. I called the S.F. office instead. The staffer there could not confirm Feinstein's position.

— Moraga, 2012-12-18 14:12:37

Phone kept hanging up on me.

— Encino, 2012-12-18 14:12:43

left a message with Sen Boxer, Feinsteins phone cut off several times as I tried to leave message

— Berkeley, 2012-12-18 14:13:41

Feintstein's auto response was confusing. Not sure that I actually left a message, as I did not get a beep to begin talking. No problem with Boxer.

— Santa Barbara, 2012-12-18 14:14:03

Senator Feinstein's phone system doesn't accept voice messages, and the line was busy. I stayed on hold for a while and gave up.

— San Diego, 2012-12-18 14:14:06

Senator Feinstein was my first call. I wanted to thank her for her stand on guns and weapons of mass destruction and to urge her to stop any cuts or even changes to SSI and Medicare. Her phone system is so overwhelmed that it cuts you off after 2 minutes or she suggests that you can call back in 15 minutes. Senator Boxer's phone system is set up to take messages with assurances that all messages will be heard.

— San Jose,, 2012-12-18 14:14:08

2 calls to Boxer's office: the first to speak directly w- a rep, the second to leave a message. Both calls ended abruptly with no possibility for leaving a message. I support zero cuts to Social Security and higher taxes to US residents who earn greater than $250,000 a year.

— Los Angeles, 2012-12-18 14:15:40

— La Quinta, 2012-12-18 14:18:18

Senator Dianne Feinstein: Spoke w/ "Asst" who said the Sen. favors these programs and no changes to existing recipients. I pushed the "Asst" for detail and he said discussions are ongoing and these decisions are made w/ Speaker of House and NOT in the Senate. Senator Barbara Boxer: Pretty much quoted what you said above with additions: (1) changes to COL calculation (2) Medicare changes where current Doctors are withdrawing as Medicare Doctor. NOTE: Sen Boxer's message said her "comment" lines is checked "regularly". This is open to interpretation.

— Venice, 2012-12-18 14:18:43

left a message for both senators.

— davis, 2012-12-18 14:19:00

— San Lorenzo, 2012-12-18 14:20:24

In my message, I also asked her to sign a bill to outlaw assault weapons and multiple ammunition clips for sale anywhere in the U.S. The average citizen does NOT need an assault weapon, which was designed for use in war.

— Gilroy, 2012-12-18 14:21:36

— Menlo Park, 2012-12-18 14:22:32

— davis, 2012-12-18 14:24:03

I left a message for Sen Boxer. I tried many times to call Sen Feinstein and got busy signal every time I called.

— Stanford, 2012-12-18 14:24:49

I recommend that people call Senate Majority Leader Reid's office, even if he is not your senator. I just called and spoke at length about X, Y and Z reason why I'm concerned about Obama's latest fiscal cliff offer and Reid's staff member who answered sounded receptive and even said something that made it sound like he agreed that the offer is wrong. He was patient enough to listen and he said he would pass my message along to Reid -- but then he hung up before I could directly ask whether we can count on Reid to stop the deal if it contains the reported cuts to social security -- so I don't know what he would say to that specific question.

— Santa Monica, 2012-12-18 14:25:12

Was able to reach Senator Boxer's office spoke to a staff person and urged Senator Boxer to oppose proposed cuts to Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid. I want the Dems and the President to keep their promise. The staff member thanked me for my feedback and made no other comment. I was unable to reach Senator Feinstein's office. Phone line was busy. Will try again.

— San Diego, 2012-12-18 14:25:22

— Richmond, 2012-12-18 14:28:53

Said she supports not touching Social Security.

— Livermore, 2012-12-18 14:29:11

Dianne Feinstein's answering machine disconnects you after two minutes - can't leave a message. Very foxy way around not HEARING what people have to say! Finally got through and urged that she talk with the President regarding any cuts to social security and Medicare!!! Left a message for Barbara Box to urge her to speak with the President and request that no further cuts be made to the elderly's social security OR MEDICARE benefits!

— San Francisco, 2012-12-18 14:30:24

Senator Feinstein's line was busy. I did speak with an aide to Senator Boxer. I asked that Social Security and Medicaid should not be on the table even if it means going over the fiscal "cliff"! I also urged that she support new gun control legislation. The aide said that the senator has released a five point plan to do just that.

— , 2012-12-18 14:30:27

I left my comment as massage to Senator Barbara Boxer. I am sure she will be checked her massages.

— Oakland, 2012-12-18 14:39:30

Staff with Senator Feinstein's office indicated they would convey my concerns and my request for support of rejecting any agreement that includes cut to social security. Senator Boxer's office had a voicemail and I left a message requesting her support in rejecting any proposal that would include cuts to social security.

— Sacramento, 2012-12-18 14:40:01

Unfortunately both offices went to voice mail - I left detailed message advising Do Not Vote If Cuts to Social Security - Their are too many seniors that depend on this and it's such little income they will live in such poverty.

— Highland, 2012-12-18 14:40:22

Called both Senators. Spoke to Julius of Feinstein's office. He says that there is no bill yet on the table but that Senator Feinstein is looking for cost savings elsewhere. She won't make a formal statement until she sees the bill. I had to leave a message at Senator Boxer's office, but told her that I did not want them making cuts to these vital earned benefits programs. I told both offices that I felt the Democrats are willing to compromise, but that giving the Republicans everything that they want and Democrats getting nothing they want is NOT compromise.

— Venice, 2012-12-18 14:40:33

I couldn't reach Feinstein. Left a message for Boxer.

— Oakland, 2012-12-18 14:40:57

I spoke with a young woman in Senator Feinstein's office relaying my concern about the proposed cuts to Social Security, especially those facing rhe elderly and children who were truly ill. I suggested that if cuts were really necessary perhaps it should be across the board with both the House and Senate voluntary giving up some of their perks, which are actually Entitlements. Seniors receiving SS are NOT receiving entitlements. Most have worked and put into the system, and now need that money to live on. She replied that she would relay the information to Senator Feinstein, but did not commit either way.

— Sacramento, 2012-12-18 14:40:58

I left a message for Sen Barbara Boxer. I said that there is more than enough money in this country. To cut social security is to hurt the most vulnerable, the sick, the elderly. This should not be an option. The priorities are not right.

— Venice, 2012-12-18 14:42:09

Do not change social security

— Fullerton, 2012-12-18 14:44:27

— Valley Springs, 2012-12-18 15:03:12

Senator Feinstein's number was busy, busy busy...

— Lake Elsinore, 2012-12-18 15:03:36

I mentioned it was unfair to punish so many to benefit so few and that with the cost of living going up so quickly, cuts would really hurt a lot of people. Stated I've fought loud and hard for the democrats this election - and they need to return the favor by upholding social security and programs to which "we the people" are entitled.

— Fallbrook, 2012-12-18 15:03:37

— Sun City, 2012-12-18 15:40:13

— San Leandro, 2012-12-18 15:40:58

They said they would pass my wishes on to the Senators.

— Oakland, 2012-12-18 15:40:59

Mr. President don’t like what I’m reading. I though you had your people in line… Don't back any fiscal deal unless it lets the Bush tax cuts for the top 2% expire, as scheduled, on December 31 and doesn't cut Social Security, Medicare, or Medicaid benefits. That’s what you told us, that it wouldn’t happen. Again, know one care about the Fiscal Cliff except the Republicans. We need every member of Congress to know that any deal cutting benefits for Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid is unacceptable. I'm on Social Security and I get tried of all of you taken my Money that I've work so hard for the last 38 years, to pay Jack and Jill, War’s or project you have on your mind. You owe us and you need to put the money you taken out the Trust fund back in. Don't mess with my Medicare either. Just put my money back and pass the Social Security Trust Fund “IRONCLAD LOCK BOX BILL”, so no one can take our money out anymore. Putting both Social Security and Medicare in an ironclad lock box where the politicians can't touch them — to me, that kind of common sense is a family value. George Bush and Dick Cheney took every dollar and spent it in Iraq on the war for oil.

— Richmond, 2012-12-18 15:45:46

It is WRONG to cut these programs. Cut the military...cut corporate oil subsidies...Pharmaceutical subsidies...but do not cut Social Security or Medicare. My grandparents wouldn't have eaten if it hadn't been for Social Security. People before Profit... Senator Boxer...love needs to be our new bottom line. As a Californian considering a run for office and Sister Giant I'm asking for your help. Don't back down. People before profit.

— Ventura, 2012-12-18 15:46:37

Not to cut social security benefits. To maintain cost of living increases for social security.

— Berkeley, 2012-12-18 15:47:21

Sent emails to both Senators and the White House

— San Diego, 2012-12-18 15:47:45

— Los Altos Hills, 2012-12-18 15:48:16

line always busy on feinstein

— santa ana, 2012-12-18 15:49:44

I also emailed my comments directly to the white house. I figure it is good for the white house to hear from folks too.

— Scotts Valley, 2012-12-18 15:50:34

At Feinstein's LA office Robert answered the call and said he would pass it on to the Senator. I left a message at Senator Boxer's office.

— Anaheim, 2012-12-18 15:55:12

left message

— Oakland, 2012-12-18 15:56:38

Couldn't get through to Sen. Feinstein. Will try again tomorrow

— Montecito, 2012-12-18 15:57:16

I couldn't get through to Feinstein's office, even to leave a message, but I both left a message For Boxer and spoke to one of the women on her staff and she implied that Senator Boxer will continue to oppose any deal that would cut Social Security benefits.

— Orinda, 2012-12-18 15:59:01

Senator Feinstein's number is constantly busy- cannot even leave a message.

— Santa Clarita, 2012-12-18 15:59:25

Left message with both requesting that they stop the deal. Did not talk to either.

— S.F., 2012-12-18 15:59:46

I left a message for Boxer. Feinstein's line remains busy.

— Los Angeles, 2012-12-18 16:00:14

Called Senator Boxer, got her voice mail and encouraged her not to give in to the outrageous assaults on Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid. Senator Feinstein's number was busy...

— San Marin, 2012-12-18 16:03:14

Staffers at both Senator's offices thanked me for calling and said they did not know what the Senators positions would be. They each said something to the effect that they usually support Social Security!

— Carlsbad, 2012-12-18 16:05:27

Feinstein's voice mail appears to be full.

— San Francisco, 2012-12-18 16:06:39

Couldn't get through to Senator Feinstein. Left Senator Boxer a message on her voice mail.

— Moreno Valley, 2012-12-18 16:07:43

I got a breaking news emai from Washington Post and immediately emailed Senator Boxer (quoting Senator Reid's promises), Congressman Berman and the spineless 'president' I stupidly canvassed for.

— Valley Vlg, 2012-12-18 16:08:30

Left msg for Barbara Boxer; unable to get through to Dianne Feinstein.

— Laguna Woods, 2012-12-18 16:08:31

I have worked 43 years and still working part time. I'm 61 years old. I'm counting on my social security. I have worked for every thing I own. If the social security is cut I will have worked all these years for nothing. It's all I have . Is this fair?

— Los Angeles, 2012-12-18 16:10:26

That she is opposed to any cuts or raising of age limits for Social Security, is FOR removing the cap on contributions, FOR improving drug coverage and supports cuts to doctors if necessary to continue Medicaid coverage for those in need.

— Los Angeles, 2012-12-18 16:11:47

Feinstein's phone just hangs up before I can leave a message

— Oakland, 2012-12-18 16:12:07

I spoke to an aid in Feinstein's office and voice mail for Boxer.. Why am I not surprised that the President is once again making a compromise when he does not have to. But this has been part of his agenda from the beginning. He made a similar offer the last go round but the Right was stopped by the tea party legislators.. Sad

— Berkeley, 2012-12-18 16:12:18

I left a message for Senator Boxer. Senator Feinstein's office was closed, and had no way to record a message--so I will call back tomorrow during their office ours. I cannot BELIEVE that in a country this wealthy and powerful we would even have to have a DISCUSSION about cutting safety nets for our elders, our children, our sick, our disabled, and our otherwise vulnerable. It boggles the mind and vexes the Soul.

— Eureka, 2012-12-18 16:12:35

Left message on Boxer's Washington Voice Mail- no reduction in Medicare, Medicaid, and no "Chained COLA" reducing Social Security benefits, and to stand fast on taxing income over $250K at the Clinton rates. Feinstein - her Washington office closed at 4:02 pm Pacific Time; spoke with "Sabithe" of her Los Angeles office, gave essentially the same message I left with Boxer's office. She said she would pass it on.

— Valencia, 2012-12-18 16:14:09

Sen. Feinstein's number didn't accept messages. Left a message for Sen. Boxer.

— Vallejo, 2012-12-18 16:14:11

Left a message for Senator Boxer to not support a deal that cuts Social Security but Senator Feinstein's voicemail hung up on me.

— Irvine, 2012-12-18 16:14:35

Senator Feinstein's message box was apparently full ) was instructed to leave a message and the line went dead - tried twice - samz result

— San Francisco, 2012-12-18 16:16:35

Could not leave a message for Feinstein, tried a few times

— Venice, 2012-12-18 16:18:03

I got Sen Boxer's voicemail in DC. Sen Feinstein's DC number doesn't permit messages but I was able to talk to someone in her LA office.

— Van Nuys, 2012-12-18 16:20:08

Left a message for each of the Senators. PLEASE DO NOT ALLOW CUTS TO SOCIAL SECURITY BENEFITS. ON A FIXED INCOME AND CANNOT AFFORD IT. THANK YOU.

— Ventura, 2012-12-18 16:20:53

Is there a So California number for Senator Feinstein? Continued problems reaching the Senator.

— Burbank, 2012-12-18 16:20:56

Particularly cited the problem for second career teachers who are already retired and collecting gov't pensions; they are already penalized by losing a good chuck of their first career social security benefits...this is really awful...I know because I am such an example, and now being retired, social security benefits are reduced 300 out of pocket bucks a month. What an incentive to considering teaching as a second career: losing money.

— West Hollywood, 2012-12-18 16:21:07

Social security which is referred to as an entitlement has been paid into over a lifetime of work by the seniors now receiving teh benefit. It is totally unacceptble that seniors are being sacrificed at the hands of the rich! Appalling!!!

— Walnut Creek, 2012-12-18 16:21:27

We have lost 401K's, dried up pensions, we cannot survive a smaller Social Security payment. We have a homeless problem in the United States without adding a generation of Baby Boomers to the street too!~

— San Diego, 2012-12-18 16:24:55

Dianne Feinstein's office was closed even to messages and her website was offline. Instead I sent an e-mail.

— San Francisco, 2012-12-18 16:26:18

I e-mailed both offices last night ....

— Santa Barbara, 2012-12-18 16:27:42

Phone stayed busy for Wash. D.C. offices.I called their San Diego offices & was able to talk with staffers. Both said the would pass my request on; Feinstein's office asked for my zip code. We need to be aware of the time diff. ET & PT.; I was calling after 4:00p PT.

— San Diego, 2012-12-18 16:29:21

I have no faith in Boxer or Feinstein, and have tried to block their re-election because of all their lies and betrayal. I left my number on Boxer's machine with the fact she and Feinstein plan cuts when that is not the answer since taking money from society is stealing since anyone had money taken out of their paycheck to put in social security which means boxer and feinstein are stealing money that is in people's account as if they took money from someone's bank, which in this case is Social Sec.

— Culver City, 2012-12-18 16:32:07

REPUBLICAN are trying to break every success by middle class to cover unfunded stupid wars by bush. social security has been paid byy individuals, no one should touch it...republican keep on trying to take ss to wall street so their friends can steal it, trade it then use it to fud fr more stupid senators and house members

— San Diego, 2012-12-18 16:32:44

Is there an e-mail address for either one or both of them? Both lines are busy.

— Los Angeles, 2012-12-18 16:34:56

Feinstein offered a different number for SF. I told boxer not to approve of ss cuts and that I don't vote democrat unconditionally.

— San Francisco, 2012-12-18 16:37:08

Hard to believe you are listed as partially accepting of social security "cuts" on MoveOn's site. I don't see how you can "cut" money which belongs to other people. Doesn't this mean you will just default on bonds paid for with money taken for decades form workers and give it to continued tax breaks for the wealthy? Don't do this. There will be consequences and repercussions. As Bernie Sanders would say you are balancing this war-profiteer-swollen budget on the backs of the poor and the middle class.

— Avalon, 2012-12-18 16:39:31

feinstein office closed, vm says call Ca. office. but didn't give any numbers!

— San Diego, 2012-12-18 16:45:50

Feinstein-Could not leave a message since it was after 7 pm EST. Will call back tomorrow.

— San Francisco, 2012-12-18 16:47:58

To leave SS alone . It has worked well over the years and not to use it as trading chip....

— Bakersfield, 2012-12-18 16:48:15

No messages taken at Ms. Feinstein's office

— Berkeley, 2012-12-18 16:49:25

Left message for Sen. Feinstein's office not to balance budget by cutting Social Security.

— Rancho, 2012-12-18 16:49:27

Either help us (senior citizens) out, or we will just have to help you OUT, PERMENANTLY. Why don't you put it up to a vote if all you politicals should keep your un-deserved perks.

— , 2012-12-18 16:49:57

Left one message...connected with one assistant who thanked me for the request.

— San Pedro, 2012-12-18 16:53:53

— San Francisco, 2012-12-18 16:54:18

Sen. Boxer's rep read me her statement saying that she will not support cuts to benefits and is proud of her record strongly supporting Social Security in the past.

— Northridge, 2012-12-18 16:54:50

Senator Feinstein's office was closed but did say to leave a message....then it disconnected me...it did this 3 x's. I guess she doesn't want to hear us..I don't trust her on this. ... Senator Boxer's office did let me leave a message.....last week i spoke to one of her staff who told me that Boxer will not touch Social Security

— Dana Point, 2012-12-18 16:55:23

feinstein's line was busy

— sylmar, 2012-12-18 16:55:59

I left a message saying that the majority of voters do not believe that President should make any compromise that decreases the Social Security, Medicare, Medicade, or any other entitlements for the general welfare of the country. If a compromise is made after the electorate spoke it is a slippery slope with the public loosing all kinds of rights such as a guaranteed minimum wage and most of us will be working for wages like in Sri Lanka. This will be a country of guarded enclaves of the rich and the rest of us in survival mode. They have bought lobbyist to represent them. Who then represents us the rest of us after we supported them for re-election?

— San Francisco, 2012-12-18 16:56:14

no message line and the office was closed for the phone number you suggested

— Berkeley, 2012-12-18 16:59:00

called Feinstein's San Francisco Office using the points in your email. Left message with Boxer and Feinstein

— El Macero, 2012-12-18 17:06:35

Do not let this happen! How would you get by if you depended only on Social Security or Veterans benefits, you would have all the luxuries that you have today! Vote this down! I voted for you to stand up for us and not bow to the Republicans tier any!

— Santa Cruz, 2012-12-18 17:08:22

Left a message for Boxer; Feinstein's office doesn't let you leave a message after office hours.

— Redwood City, 2012-12-18 17:10:14

Called local Senators' offices. Both Senators' office said the Senator has not yet published a statement on this.

— Escondido, 2012-12-18 17:38:48

Dianne Feinstein's number was busy busy busy. I did leave a message for Barbara Boxer asking that Social Security be taken off the table. It's solvent for 30 years. Work on issues that are in need of attention i.e. gun regulation, increasing revenue for the government, use of alternative energy resources. Social Security is an earned and paid for benefit. Many Seniors depend on this income for their survival. And, it's working. As someone once said "If it aint broke, don't fix it" !

— La Jolla, 2012-12-18 17:41:52

Left a mssage with boxer and could not do so with feinstein. Better than nothing but just barely. I wish we could all just go there and sit on their heads.

President Obama is not a negotiator. We can not let him get away with stealing from Social Security. That is why I could not support him. He may mean well but I simply don't trust him not to capitulate. Its happening all over again. We seriously need a third party.

Please refuse any deal that compromises social security or medicare.

— Hercules, 2012-12-18 22:11:46

Why would you even put Social Security on the chopping block? We all know it has done really nothing but run surpluses until recently. Plus, its not even insolvent until twenty years from now... Wrong time to have this conversation... Don't give in to this fake issue... Let's talk about military cuts...

— Moraga, 2012-12-18 22:20:51

Please maked sure that you don't sign on to cutting medicare, medicaid, and especially Social Security. Thanks.

— Santa Cruz, 2012-12-18 22:43:09

I just left message on Boxers answer machine. Unable to contact Feinstein at this time.

— Glendale, 2012-12-18 22:54:19

I hope the president stop messing with Social Scurity

— van nuys, 2012-12-18 23:02:58

I am very disillusioned with politicians. They can not be trusted to keep their word.

— los angeles, 2012-12-18 23:06:28

Feinstein's asst said she was sticking with the $250,000. Boxer's said he didn't know an exact number. I said to both assistants answering the phone, oppose the idea to raise the limit to $400,000. The PResident has been saying $250,000 forever. He MUST not look like he's going to cave. He doesn't need to. He won the election by a large amount. JUST SAY NO to anything above $250,000.

— Venice, 2012-12-18 23:15:10

Left message for Boxer and attempted several Ed to contact Fienstien but unable to contact. I will vote against any politician who supports social security benefit cuts. Social security benefits have been earned and paid for by the working class that has paid into this system. This is a benefit that the government has no business in reducing and if it had been administered appropriately should have aquirred a substantial surplus. However because of the greed and corruption of politians we are in the situation we now face. I believe our politicians and the wealthy class need to be held accountable and pay their share. I also believe that our politicians should all have the same retirement and medical benefits that the general public have. This would ensure that the majority of Americans received the same health care benefits.

— Smith River, 2012-12-18 23:15:12

There are too, too many people living in my senior community that are strickly living on their soc. security. It must not be cut, under no circumstances !!!!

— Laguna Woods, 2012-12-18 23:18:41

asking senator boxer to do every thing in her power to stop changes or increases with social security and medical support for senoirs

— corona, 2012-12-19 00:56:45

— victorville, 2012-12-19 03:18:52

I have always been a Democrat and always admired those two hard-working and gutsy women. I am sure they'll fight on this issue as well as on gun control.

— LA, 2012-12-19 04:38:17

Left voicemail for Sen. Boxer and message with staffer of Sen. Feinstein asking that they both come out publicly against the capitulation the President is about to make to House leadership and asking them to demand that he stand by his campaign promises of protecting the middle class and seniors, medicare, medicaid, and social security, rather than the top 2%

— Laguna Hills, 2012-12-19 05:17:42

I just spoke with one Senator Boxer representatives and was told that she is opposed to cuts to Social Security and even spoke out on the floor in favor of tax cuts for 98% of the American people these past 2 weeks. She is standing firm on representing the majority, not the privileged minority. This is good news and I hope that it is accurate. I thanked her. We all need a bit of encouragement, especially in the face of opposition.

— Whittier, 2012-12-19 06:15:19

I talked to staff at both offices about: Filibuster rule must be changed; Hands off Social Security and safety net; Assault weapons ban and more on hanguns; Use Green New Deal of Jill Stein Green Party USA as a model for legislation.

— Thousand Oaks, 2012-12-19 06:43:25

— Berkeley, 2012-12-19 07:56:21

Called regarding the social security situation and to stop hurting middle class and seniors.

— Laguna Niguel, 2012-12-19 07:59:43

Dear Senator Boxer I am a 66 year old senior living in Kings Beach, Ca. I beg and urge you to hold fast on "No Cuts to Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid." The poorest people who have worked hard but still can't afford the rising cost of living? The wealthy whom I might add have seen their wealth increase dramatically over the past 20 years where the evidence clearly shows the middle class have lost tremendous value and seen their standard of living squeezed everyday in every way. The rich can well afford to fork over a minute increase in their taxes and their life will not be impacted. Every nickel and dime that goes up on fuel, food, insurance, dentist, becomes a real desperate issue for me!! And many seniors like me. I have a daughter with huge student debt and son about to become a father. They ate struggling with their young lives and cannot afford to help their aging parents. I've done the right thing and worked hard but unfortunately the cost of living has eaten up whatever little bit of savings I had. Can the wealthy really get away with avoiding paying their share or shall you keep running on helping the middle class rhetoric only to then fold to Republican Greed! Their motto is Corporations are People too! How far from what the public want can the Democratic Party insist on taking the public which just voted them in????? We want those making more than $250,000 to PAY MORE in taxes!!! Oh by the way can you get the Republicans and the NRA to provide Kevlar body armor and Bullet Proof Vests for All Americans, just school children Since they have turned our country into a militarized WAR ZONE? Apparently Joe Scarborough says his Republican friends are Ambivalent to taking Bushmasters off the store shelves. I'd like to see the photos of the slaughtered children and teachers as they lay on the floors with multiple gun hots published for all the world to see how the Republican Party has turned our schools into shooting galleries and not are Ambiivalent to ant so,unions except More Guns!!! If the public took ONE LOOK they would never be able to erase those images. Don't show the children's pictures in life show them in DEATH and America will not stand for the sales of these guns or the NRA cry to bring more guns in school. BODY ARMOR for ALL Americans at the mall, at school, at the sports arenas, at church! Can you believe Haley Barber blamed taking God out of the schools for the Conn massacre? Guess he doesn't know people are being shot in churches, malls, universities, coffee shops, or maybe he's just another AMBIVALENT REPUBLICAN!!!!!

— Crystal bay, 2012-12-19 08:08:34

Spoke with a live person at Feinstein's office and a VM system at Boxer's. Explained that any cuts to Social Security would be a disaster for millions of seniors who count on this income for basic necessities. They would become destitute and homeless. I urged them to advise the Senators of my opinion.

— LOS ANGELES, 2012-12-19 08:08:39

Feinstein's phone never never lets you leave a message. But they do have you wait online for 2-3 minutes, then you hear it ring for about 6 rings, and then their system hangs up on you. This has happened the many multiple times I have phoned her DC office. She should be ashamed to treat her California constituants that way. Boxer always asks you to leave a msg. There is no excuse for Feinstein to have such a phone system!

— Santa Monica, 2012-12-19 08:14:18

I left a message for boxer but couldn't get through to Feinstein I haven't heard back yet

— San Francisco, 2012-12-19 08:22:04

L left a message. I knew obama would cut social security if he was reelected but voted for him anyway. this fiscal cliff is manufactured to cut social programs and is a lie.

— mckinleyville, 2012-12-19 08:24:07

I let a voice message for Barbara Boxer. Diane Feinstein's # remains busy. I will keep trying.

— oak park, 2012-12-19 08:30:26

Was able to leave message with Senator Feinstein's aide, which she said she would along to her. Could only leave message on Senator Boxer's voice mail. Strongly expressed the fact that Social Security should never have been touched ever. From what I have read, It was originally set up in a locked account never to be touched, but has been borrowed from in the past. It should not be considered part of the deficit problem. Also, was disappointed the original fair tax raises on $250,000+ incomes has not held strong.

— Valley Vlg, 2012-12-19 08:34:28

Senator Feinstein's number goes to a busy tone. The message I left for Sen. Boxer stated my disappointment and not to let the President offer cuts to SSI or Medicare. Stand strong.

— Los Angeles, 2012-12-19 09:20:39

the office of senator feinstein was answered by a worker who said she would pass the request on to the senator.

— santa barbara, 2012-12-19 09:20:43

Omg, try calling nancy pelosi's office. she has the rudest staffers ever, who are very put upon because of the high volume of calls. Her "stand by my man" comments regarding her goal to garner support for whatever Obama agrees to at the table have people reeling. Her support for cuts to SS will be followed swiftly by cuts to Medicare and Medicaid. I have been concerned about Nancy Pelosi's willingness to compromise just soThe can take a "win" for a long time. I will not call her office again, since they're soupy upon when they hear from the voters. I also will not vote for her again, and I encourage others todo the same.

— San Francisco, 2012-12-19 09:21:43

— San Francisco, 2012-12-19 09:46:19

We're drowning and our elected officials do nothing more than posture! Shame on all of you for abandoning those whose interests you're suppose to represent!

— Whittier, 2012-12-19 09:48:31

Please tell the President, don't mess with social security. He will fall into a trap set by the republicans just so they won.t fall off the Fiscal curb.

— Cameron Park, 2012-12-19 09:50:16

Don't cut these well earned benefits make the cuts in the military budget!

— , 2012-12-19 09:51:22

— Atwater, 2012-12-19 10:02:19

No answer, but was able to leave a message.

— Oakland, 2012-12-19 10:04:30

I called the local offices as DC offices were busy. Senator Boxer's office said she will support protecting SS Medicare & Medicaid. Senator Feinstein has not commented yet which is a worry to me. also asked if Se. Feintein's bill re gun control would deal with internet sales - aide didn't know.

— Agoura Hills, 2012-12-19 10:07:48

fyi: Left a very strong message asking them to make sure that NO part of Social Security be tampered with!!!

— Palm Desert, 2012-12-19 10:07:49

Is there some email where we can register our thoughts for Pres.Obama? Like hanging tough on taxing the top 2% and cut defense spending NOT SS or medicare!! And get sensible gun control through Congress ASAP!!!

— Laguna Woods, 2012-12-19 10:13:26

Never got through to Feinstein.

— Davis, 2012-12-19 10:15:27

— Woodland Hills, 2012-12-19 10:18:47

Called both offices and told them not to cut ss. They said they would register my view. I also said that I support the second amendment. But to take away assault type weapons

— Big Bear City, 2012-12-19 10:21:12

Got voicemail and left a message asking her to stand tall and resist any cuts to Social Security, Medicare or Medicaid - they can cut elsewhere - start with the oil company subsidies.

— Lincoln, 2012-12-19 10:24:51

i called them about gun control....right now i don't care about cuts or budgets or anything else.....

— Scotts Valley, 2012-12-19 10:24:51

After several attempts calling Senator Feinsteins number and the line either being busy or I was placed on hold and then cut-off after 2 minutes. The last & successful call I was able to talk with a staff member- in addition to voicing my concerns about Social Security & Medicare Benefits I also stated that as a Californian it seems to me that increasing the cut-off for increased taxes to $400,000 seems reasonable...and I am not making anywhere near even $250,000 a year.

— San Jose, 2012-12-19 10:31:44

a wrong number was given I reached a Sen. Shahine (?)

— , 2012-12-19 10:34:11

Feinstein's # busy. Voicemail Boxer.Told Boxer that this is not why I voted to reelect Obama. He said SS was off the table during campaign.SS is a separate trust fund. All they need to do is to raise the ceiling on incomes subject to SS tax above $110,000.No cuts to SS ever.No mention of treating capital gains as regular income.Disappointed with Obama selling out of the elderly, poor, disabled.

— Santa Rosa, 2012-12-19 10:36:10

Left VM for Boxer and tried calling Feinstein # has been busy to 2 days - sent email via her Web site.

was not able to get thru to FEinstein, but left the message for Boxer. Will keep trying Fesinstein.

— Woodland Hills, 2012-12-19 11:00:49

Do not mess with the social safety net - SS and Medicare are precious and necessary - we should be expanding the programs to include all citizens in a single payer plan.

— Marina del Rey, 2012-12-19 11:00:54

Feinstein's just busy signal. Asst. In Boxer's office says Sen always has supported safety net but also said she's behind the President. So....

— West Hollywood, 2012-12-19 11:04:29

Diane Feinstein's line was busy, and I am now on hold, but was told the connection would be cut after two minutes. I hope this means she is being with "don't mess with social security benefits" calls.

— Van Nuys, 2012-12-19 11:05:31

I spoke with a staff member of Senator Boxer. With four tries (over time), I could not reach anyone at Senator Feinstein's office.

— Mountain View, 2012-12-19 11:07:13

I tried to leave a message for Feinstein but am not sure it recorded. Called twice but heard no click for when to record my message. Frustrating.

— Village, 2012-12-19 11:08:26

NO chained CPI. AS a senior I leave in a complex, for seniors, which raises rent every year based on the CPI. If SS is changed to Chained CPI our yearly rent increases, based on regular CPI, will be less than our rent increases. SS does not contribute to the deficit and those of us on SS already are unable to buy the food that we would like.

— Santee, 2012-12-19 11:09:38

Feinstein : I had to wait a couple of minutes listening to a warning that I may cut me off if THEY haven't answered in two minutes. I hung in there and left one with a live person! Boxer: left a voice mail - much easier.

— San Francisco, 2012-12-19 11:16:26

— Pismo Beach, 2012-12-19 12:19:50

left a message for Boxer and told her to stop the deal that includes cuts to Soc.Security. Feinstein's phone left me holding and I had to hang up.

— Desert hot springs, 2012-12-19 12:34:35

I also called the White House comment line, pointing out that Social Security is an insurance program which every employed person pays throughout her/his working life. It is mandatory. In exchange for this, it's common decency to not see cutting benefits - especially AFTER we've followed these mandatory rules to then discover that the USA Federal Government decides to retroactively weasel out. If that government tried a similar stunt with other nations or Big Business, it wouldn't be tolerated.

— Los Angeles, 2012-12-19 12:35:47

Left a message - Babara Boxer: President Obama: Remember your promise regarding Social Security.

— Auburn, 2012-12-19 12:40:41

— Redwood City, 2012-12-19 12:43:18

I need the Social Security to pay my high Medical Insurance. I am on an extremely costly insurance. Major Risk California Insurance Plan needs controls.

— San Jose, 2012-12-19 12:45:57

Talked to a live person she said: Sen. Feinstein has not taken a stand on this Bill. She usually votes to not cut benefits. I relayed that her name was not on the list of committed Senators to stop this deal.

I am 76 years old, on Social Security, an independent self-supporting author who relies on Social Security for part of my monthly income, and worked hard for it during my years in publishing, I told the Senator in no uncertain terms that I hoped she should do everything in her power to stop this cut from happening.

— Glendale, 2012-12-19 13:28:54

Phone rang twice than a busy signal

— Burney, 2012-12-19 13:38:50

Senator Feinstein is supporting the calculated cpi change, responding in a letter to me. Left message with Senator Boxer's office. Representative Mike Thompson is opposed to any changes to SS.

I asked when it comes up for a vote that she vote against and cuts to SS, as well as to Medicare & Medicaid. Spoke w/ Kaye in Sen Feinstein's office. She took my message but didn't make a comment on Sen Feinstein's position.

— Albany, 2012-12-19 14:04:18

Talked to a staff member ibn each office and got a good response.

— Oceanside, 2012-12-19 14:10:19

Senators you are angels. My family is really dropping off the bottom of economic prosperity. Everyone is working, has a car, and a phone, but can not make an income to cover health care, car payments and repairs and rent. We need your help to raise taxes on the wealthy. Thanks!! Happy Holidays!! Lou

— Martinez, 2012-12-19 14:14:41

Neither Senator Boxer's or Senator Finestein's aid knew if the senators had an opinion. I told them my position opposing cuts to Social Security, but I no longer believe any of the politicians care what their constituents think, want, or believe unless I can contribute cash to their campains.

— West Hills, 2012-12-19 14:17:22

Spoke to a live staff person. Her staff would not comment on what she might or might not vote for, but repeated that she has spoken out in the past against cuts to Medicare and Social Security.

— San Francisco, 2012-12-19 14:23:53

I left message at both senators' offices that 1) I am vehemently opposed to any cuts to social security, 2) I'm horrified that social security cuts are even being considered, and 3) I will likely never vote for any politician who agrees to cuts to social security.

— Fresno, 2012-12-19 14:27:30

— pope valley, 2012-12-19 14:53:37

Feinstein, I requested her to stop this deal. They wanted to know what ZIP Code I was calling from.

— Long Beach, 2012-12-19 15:10:58

talked to staff. no comment from staff, they only took message: hands off social security and medicare; ss not part of the deficit, why is it on the table; in the long run we are better off just going off the cliff: reduces the defense budget, raises taxes and creates revenue, doesn't touch ss.

— Pacific Plsds, 2012-12-19 15:14:43

Boxer is against any cuts to SS. I called Feinstein's LA office since the DC office was closed. They said she hasn't taken a position one way or the other on SS cuts.

— Altadena, 2012-12-19 15:18:36

I am so angry that social security is even mentioned in the fiscal cliff. It's not an entitlement. The government spent OUR money. How dare they even think of cutting our benefits. We're not even getting cost of living raises. The house should not be getting their pay and healthcare for life. They should contribute like everyone else and that's the only way they'd even begin to understand what it means to those that rely on something they worked for all their lives. I don't trust any of them.

— Sunnyvale, 2012-12-19 15:19:16

Was able to leave a message for Boxer , not for Diane

— Santa Monica, 2012-12-19 15:24:05

Could only leave a message for Senator Boxer.

— Van Nuys, 2012-12-19 15:36:21

I finally got through to Sen. Feinstein's office. The aid said she never states her position until the bill is in front of her, or something like that. Historically she supports entitlement issues. I also told him I urged her to not accept any compromise on SS, Medicare, or Medicaid.

— McKinleyville, 2012-12-19 15:40:12

— Camarillo, 2012-12-19 16:40:00

I left a message with Sen. Boxer; Sen Feinstein's office was closed & I was asked to call a calif. office. I hope they are ready to fight ALL THE WAY to prevent cuts to the needy in favor of the wealthy & powerful. NOW, ESPECIALLY, THE PEOPLE NEED TO RELY ON SOCIAL SECURITY, which they have paid into all their working lives & which has Not contributed to our deficit. THAT'S LARGELY WHY WE ELECTED YOU!!!!!!!!

Her message machine capacity was exceeded and there was no way to leave a message. She needs to change her method of receiving messages.

— Brea, 2012-12-19 17:43:18

Feinstein's person said she doesn't like to comment on stuff until it's a bill. I told her I was happy Boxer signed Sander's letter, and wished she would, and to put me down as emphatically against any reductions in benefits!

— Oakland, 2012-12-19 17:45:55

— San Jose, 2012-12-19 20:24:21

I suggested that an alternative calculator for CPI (CPI-E) be considered IF (as David Kay Johnson says) actually better for elders. I asked that benefits be protected.

— Carmel, 2012-12-19 20:31:16

left message with boxer. feinstein had no message box after hours...i'll TRY during my work hours.

— Santa Monica, 2012-12-19 20:37:43

Is there no dignity in getting older! Leave seniors alone. I worked my whole life to get the small amount that I get, and now they want to take that away? I don't think so!!! NO DEAL!

— Santa Monica, 2012-12-19 20:40:40

Got non-committal reply from staffer at Boxer's office. Line busy at Feinstein's. Will try local office instead.

— Oakland, 2012-12-19 21:53:22

didn't call feinstein yet

— Oakland, 2012-12-19 23:02:25

I spoke to a woman in the office and told her that vulnerable seniors in the future especially will be severely hurt by these cuts, which, for those who live completely on Social Security, could mean the difference between being able to buy food and not. I stressed that we should be able to find a bargain that doesn't harm SS recipients by protecting the wealthier people in our country. She was very nice, said she'd be happy to pass my comments along, and thanked me for calling.

— Santa Monica, 2012-12-20 07:07:31

told the aide that I EXPECT the senator to take a public stand protecting Social Security, and that I want her to be a leader on this subject, not just her vote but to take a public stand so that others may follow her lead. I EXPECT her to represent me, publicly.

— LA, 2012-12-20 07:55:11

I said that we convincingly elected Pres. Obama and Sen. Boxer because they promised to protect SS. I said that the chained CPI deal that the Republicans have proposed would cut SS benefits and more each year. I strongly said stand firm on SS reject the proposed deal.

— Sebastopol, 2012-12-20 08:05:35

called, pushed 3 to speak with rep., phone rang disconected. called back left message.

— Paso Robles, 2012-12-20 08:35:27

also called mike thompson. my votes in the future will go elsewhere if these candidates cave on the most essential programs. this is insanity.

— Saint Helena, 2012-12-20 08:38:47

Left message with staff.

— OAKLAND, 2012-12-20 08:45:16

The message will be given to her, but in the past she's opposed any cuts to Medicare and Social Security.

— Pasadena, 2012-12-20 08:57:05

Talked to Senator Boxer's staff, they said they would pass that message on to her.

— Westchester, 2012-12-20 09:07:00

Asked both to fight Obama's frightening proposal to cut Social Security and to significantly raise taxes on the rich to support our entitlement programs.

— Berkeley, 2012-12-20 09:37:38

Kept getting a busy signal with Sen. Feinstein.

— MERCED, 2012-12-20 09:49:16

— Mariposa, 2012-12-20 09:52:13

Left message w/Boxer - Feinstein line busy will have to call again

— Union city, 2012-12-20 09:56:05

SHE HAS NOT YET TAKEN A STAND. I URGED THAT SHE BLOCK AND DEAL THAT INCLUDES CUTS TO SOCIAL SECURITY OR MEDICARE

— WILLITS, 2012-12-20 10:04:46

I did talk to a staffer both times. They both said that the senators had spoken against any cuts. But when I asked if they would do something to stop the cuts, Boxer's staff said "not sure" and Feinstein's said: "I can't say."

— Sunnyvale, 2012-12-20 10:05:01

Neither office has an official position on this specific proposal but both offices cited past support of SS and indicated they'll likely oppose this proposal.

— Long Beach, 2012-12-20 10:06:03

Pls oppose changes to the way Social Security COLAs are determined. Social Security does not contribute to our current budget crisis. The proposed changes will hurt low income seniors.

— San Luis Obispo, 2012-12-20 10:18:19

too busy to talk with me.

— Westhaven, 2012-12-20 10:19:42

Sen. Feinstein's phone was busy.

— glendale, 2012-12-20 11:10:31

THEIR SWITCHBOARD IS PACKED. I JUST SQUEEKED THROUGH

— CHICO, 2012-12-20 11:12:53

i talked to a staff person, Nina, sending congrats that Dianne Feinstein is perhaps proposing a gun control bill but stating it is more important that she block passage of a fiscal cliff deal that includes cuts to Social Security and the extension of Bush tax cuts to everyone who makes under a million dollars a year.

— Waipahu, 2012-12-20 11:16:16

Senator Feinsteins aide said that Medicare and medicaid were off the chopping block but not SS. They mentioned that"President Obama" was making the compromises to SS. I told them they if the Democrats caved into pressure to cut what is rightly the benefits of the "people" then they had better watch out for their own congressional benefits because our taxes are paying for them and we,the people, will need to look into creating congressional reform.

— San Francisco, 2012-12-20 11:19:11

I'll let Senator Feinstein know You are against S.S. cuts...

— San Francisco, 2012-12-20 11:24:35

Called and left a message.

— San Francisco, 2012-12-20 11:32:32

spoke w/Boxers Office person, will relay the message. No Answer for Feinstein

— San Francisco, 2012-12-20 11:34:02

Left message for both to not allow any cuts to Soc. Security or Medicare or Medical & to support gun control, esp. to ban assault weapons. Spoke to a live person for Sen. Feinstein.

— San Francisco, 2012-12-20 11:40:31

Dear Senator ! Social Security Has , Is, and will be the one and only thing that people rely on ! A good 85 % of the people including my husband of 36 years after he became disabled in 2007! I think once the Goverment starts reaching into the coffers of social security (peoples Money ) in an effort to aliviate the Countrys debt ! They are going to find it tempting to empty all the contents ! And when the time comes for other people to apply for their hard earned benefits ? There is going to be No funds left ! Why ? Because some practical person found it comfortable to solve their problems with other people money ! How comfortable huh ? Can we all afford to let them do this ? I do Not think so ! My husband madam senator ! He worked and paid into the S. S. for 35 + years, Please do all you can to keep this from happening ! Thanks.

— Fontana, 2012-12-20 11:48:41

Why does taxing the rich require taking from the poor?

— Pahoa, 2012-12-20 11:55:10

Request both to just let the situation slide over the fiscal cliff, since the negotiations are not going to have an acceptable outcome.

— Eureka, 2012-12-20 12:01:18

I couldn't reach Feinstein. Will try again.

— Santa Monica, 2012-12-20 12:14:43

Cant get through to Feinstein's phone, --its busy. will try again later. Left message for Sen Boxer.

— Sacramento, 2012-12-20 12:28:40

I emailed Barbara Boxer at their website. Due to my heavy accent, I prefer this line of communication. He website site is https://boxer.senate.gov

— Long Beach, 2012-12-20 12:52:56

Both senator's staff seemed to agree that the SS funds, which should be separate, have been sucked into the general budget and should not even be part of the current negotiations. SS has problems but they should be handled separately from the so called fiscal cliff.

— Santa Barbara, 2012-12-20 12:55:27

I spoke to Barbara Boxers aid and she asked me to tell you to move Barbara's name off the undecided list that she has fully committed to not make the deal to mess with social security and maedicare.

— Anderson, 2012-12-20 12:58:12

Left a message asking Sen. Boxer to protect social security benefits Sen. Feinstein's phone was busy

— , 2012-12-20 13:15:25

Feinstein's phone is aleays busy.

— Twain Harte, 2012-12-20 13:17:03

Left a message for Sen. Boxer Sen. Feinstein's number is busy

— Oak View, 2012-12-20 13:44:10

Took my message.

— Manhattan Beach, 2012-12-20 14:23:06

Told staffperson NO cuts to Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid as part of any deal. Told her that in polls voters say, by a wide margin, that cutting these programs unacceptable. Told her that economists agree with Americans: top priority is jobs, not the deficit. Business owners say weak demand, not taxes or regulation, stops them from hiring. It's middle- and lower-income spending that leads America out of economic downturns. A 'recovery' in which 93% of the gains go to the top 1% won't get us there. The last thing we should be doing is cutting programs that help middle- and lower-income Americans meet basic needs.

— Santa Cruz, 2012-12-20 14:24:57

I told Sen. Feinstein and Sen. Boxer the only acceptable change to Social Security would be a means test those who make millions do not need Social Security don't lay the debt ceiling and the fiscal cliff onto the backs of disabled vets veterans senior citizens or kids

— Laguna Woods, 2012-12-20 14:35:28

Couldn't get through to Sen. Feinstein, sent email.

— Santa Monica, 2012-12-20 14:51:32

I do not quallify . I know it saved my patents. dD DIED AND MY MOM HAD NOTHING BUT SOCIAL SECURITY AND TWO CHILDREN TO HELP.

— Los Osos, 2012-12-20 15:25:15

I left a message for her.

— Santa Clara, 2012-12-20 15:36:39

Barbara Boxer's message was easy to access and took my message immediately. Dianne Feinstein's message center was busy so I called her 310 914-7300 number and a person took the message.

— Cherry Valley, 2012-12-20 15:39:58

No reply yet, but here was my message: Dear Senator Boxer: The "fiscal cliff" is a hoax, and is apparently being used by both parties as an excuse to cut back on essential social programs which have had a lot to do with the greatness of America (which is much more than simply Corporate America). Please JUST SAY NO!!! Cuts? Fine, but--especially in these difficult economic times--this is time for Massive cuts to Defense and Intelligence, where there is serious waste..and the USA has come to be known as a predator around the world. Respectfully, Dr. Thomas C. Halle Los Angeles, California

— Los Angeles, 2012-12-20 16:18:50

Dear Senator Feinstein: There are many who depend on SS Benefits. Please do not let the Republicans succeed in making any cuts.

— Van Nuys, 2012-12-20 18:01:32

Feinstein's staffer said she is not "black or white" on issues but she is strongly opposed to cuts in SS.

— Spanish Ranch, 2012-12-20 20:55:32

got recording

— Wilshire-La Brea, 2012-12-21 07:39:03

An aid stated that Boxer has been a life-long supporter of no-cuts to Social security and even asked to have the contribution ceiling increased to $250,000.

— , 2012-12-21 08:55:35

No cuts to the Big 3, period ! The cost of living increases have not kept up with SSI! Why is this? Can you live on less than 1500.00 a month ?

— Corcoran, 2012-12-21 10:43:03

Could not get through. If you can forward this to them. They and the President have lost my votes by even bargaining with the Radical Right. Munich 36 you can't compromise with fascist's

— Visalia, 2012-12-21 12:21:58

Individual who answered the phone for Feinstein said OK and asked me for my zip code. That was it.

— Richmond, 2012-12-21 12:44:13

Individual who answered the phone said Senator Boxer has spoken out against the cuts.

— Richmond, 2012-12-21 12:51:11

I left a message for both senators urging them to vote No cuts to Social Security. Hopefully they will act accordingly.

— Oakland, 2012-12-21 13:21:41

One of the members in the office answered the call and advised me that Senator Boxer voted against cuts to Social Security this week on the floor.

— Fullerton, 2012-12-21 14:51:25

Barbara Boxer = left message Dianne Fienstien= talk to someone, a man who took my comment.

— Montclair, 2012-12-21 15:29:36

Left a message n 12-21-12 in her mail box she says itis checked regularly. Feinsteins is closed for the holiday. Obama promised us he would not do this to us elderly. We supported him both with money and vote. He should not do this deal.

— Vallejo, 2012-12-21 16:26:49

I left messages for both of them, asking for 3 things: Stop the cuts to social security & medicare, stop the fillabuster ad support the women's museum.

— San Diego, 2012-12-21 17:03:50

Was only able to leave a message for the Senators. However, Bernie Sanders staff assured me he would vote no if social security was part of the deal, and Congressman Stark's office called back to say he too would vote no. I tried to email Congresswoman Pelosi but I am not in her district so was unable to do that. Shouldn't her position cause her to take messages from all of us? Thank you for all you do. PS I always call Senator Feinstein's San Diego office. That line is never busy.

— Alameda, 2012-12-22 08:49:00

Dianne Feinstein's voicemail is not receiving messages over the holiday weekend.

— Los Angeles, 2012-12-22 10:37:47

Senator Feinstein's line was too busy, can't get through.

— , 2012-12-22 16:44:43

Tried Feinstein’s number three times. The line was busy each time.

— Pleasanton, 2012-12-22 23:29:37

DO NOT GIVE YOU... SO FAR YOU'VE DONE A GREAT JOB

— Santa Barbara, 2012-12-23 08:51:30

We need a petition to Obama: DO NOT TOUCH SOCIAL SECURITY OR MEDICARE...send to all seniors..get AARP to help!! This is serious.

— Banning, 2012-12-23 14:25:02

Regret unable to call senators........ I am in Australia for another 3 weeks. Rhonda Haet

— Oakland, 2012-12-23 20:43:02

Rather than cut benefits to YOUR state's hardworking AND taxing paying seniors - please consider cutting the benefits to the illegal aliens who get free/assisted rent, food, health benefits, dental benefits, education help and, for whatever crazy reason - free cell phones. Please help seniors who have contributed who have worked for 40+ years. Thank you.

— Irvine, 2012-12-26 07:42:09

I left a message with their staff to not cut Social Security, Medicare and Medi-Cal.

— Daly City, 2012-12-26 11:20:00

I sent email to Barbara Boxer, and Dianne Feinstein asking them to not support this bad deal of cuts to Social Security; to protect Social Security.

— Campbell, 2012-12-26 21:17:57

No raise in age requirement.

— East Orange, 2012-12-27 13:32:52

— Orangevale, 2012-12-29 12:26:20

Sent email to Feinstein's S.F. office. Her availability is not very good.

— Hidden Valley Lake, 2012-12-29 14:03:01

Reid already said social security is off the table. Will not be cut. Not sure about what is going to happen to medicare and medicaid

— mount shasta, 2013-01-01 20:57:12

Privacy Policy

We do not share the information you’ve given us with unaffiliated groups without your explicit permission.

Petitions and Surveys

For petitions and surveys you've signed or completed, we treat your name, city, state, and comments as public information - for example, we may provide compilations of petitions, with your comments, to the President and legislators, other targets, or to the press. We will not make your street address publicly available, but we may transmit it to members of Congress and to the President as part of a petition. This is a standard industry practice in such situations. In no such case will we disclose your email address or phone number without your permission. We may also make your comments, along with your first name, city, and state available to the press and public online.

Under circumstances where we determine that members may be misusing our systems for malicious purposes (for example, using the numbers we provide to make harassing phone calls), such activities may be reported to law enforcement agencies. In such cases, MoveOn may release personally identifiable information, including name and address, to those agencies.

Sending Emails Via MoveOn.org Political Action

In certain cases, we enable you to send individual e-mails to the President, legislators, and other targets as well as Letters-to-the-Editor to various news publications, through our website. These messages are sent in your name, with your e-mail address as the return address and your full name and contact information is provided as part of the submission. These messages will only be sent out under your name as you approve them on an individual basis using our email tool. You are solely responsible for the specific message(s) you send using our email tool.

Email from MoveOn.org Political Action

MoveOn will send you updates on this and other important campaigns by email. If at any time you would like to unsubscribe from our email list, you may do so by completing this form.
