Family and Friendraising

The Campaign

We've achieved 267% of our $50,000,000 goal.

We are at a defining moment in our country's history and at a critical point in our campaign to defeat George Bush and elect John Kerry.

By "Family and Friendraising" you help bring others into the campaign, giving them an opportunity to make a difference, and helping us making a bigger impact between now and November.

How it works

Just think of the number of people you know who want to have change in the White House and how much they'd give to make a tangible impact on the election. Do you know 20 people who'd give $20? Or 30 who would give $10?

When you invite others to participate, you not only help the effort, but you give others a way to take their passion and concern and put it into action. We've heard from countless members who talk about being thanked by their friends and overwhelmed by the positive response.

Member experiences

Jean from Richmond, CA has raised over $7,000 so far, Lisa from Columbus, OH has raised $430, much of this from Republicans who want Bush out of office. Each wrote about why they're involved in the campaign, what they believe is at stake, and how they were surprised by the results. Maurice from Takoma Park, MD agreed to match others' contributions 25 cents to the dollar, and surpassed his pledge by more than 5 times, raising more than $2,700!

Set your goal

Multiply the number of people you think would contribute by the average contribution you'd expect to come up with your fundraising goal. Then enter the number of people you would hope to have contribute. Then press the "Set Goal" button.

We do not share the information you’ve given us with unaffiliated groups without your explicit permission.

Petitions and Surveys

For petitions and surveys you've signed or completed, we treat your name, city, state, and comments as public information - for example, we may provide compilations of petitions, with your comments, to the President and legislators, other targets, or to the press. We will not make your street address publicly available, but we may transmit it to members of Congress and to the President as part of a petition. This is a standard industry practice in such situations. In no such case will we disclose your email address or phone number without your permission. We may also make your comments, along with your first name, city and state available to the press and public online.

Under circumstances where we determine that members may be misusing our systems for malicious purposes (for example, using the numbers we provide to make harassing phone calls), such activities may be reported to law enforcement agencies. In such cases, MoveOn may release personally identifiable information, including name and address, to those agencies.
